Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 581: Chapter 555: Freedom and Troubles

”My stepbrother is also single, I think Auntie really likes him. Of course, he’s an honest civil servant who doesn’t earn as much as you, Mr. Hai, but my stepbrother has a simple heart. He hasn’t even had a girlfriend before. Do parents prefer a son-in-law who spends lavishly or one who’s honest and stable?”

Crack, Hai Zhao’s freshly mended heart was shattered into many pieces by Qian’s words.

When Yu Minglang left the restaurant with Qian after dinner, Hai Zhao saw them off.

”Yu, you drive, I have something to say to Qian!”

After Yu Minglang left, Hai Zhao smiled like a living Buddha.

”Qian, beautiful Qian, your stepbrother is still single, right? I know a lot of pretty girls; let me introduce him to someone. Don’t thank me, I’m just a warm-hearted person.”

Hearing that Mrs. Yu favors Qian’s stepbrother, Hai Zhao felt awful, eager to sell Liao Fugui off and distance him from Xiaoxi!

”Hai Zhao, tell me the truth, what do you really mean with my sister Xiaoxi? Do you want to be her fake boyfriend forever, or do you want to make it real?”

For the past two years, Xiaoxi has often been urged to marry by Mrs. Yu. She avoids it as much as she can, but this time she couldn’t, even pulling Hai Zhao in as a shield, showing she really doesn’t want to marry.

”Aren’t you a great psychologist who can see through people’s hearts? How could you not know what I’m thinking?”

”People’s hearts are hidden. You’re not my client, so why should I ponder you? I’m busy, gotta go~”

Hai Zhao quickly stopped her, smiling with a plea.

”I was wrong! Sis, you’re like my own sister, isn’t that enough? I confess, I want to drop the ’fake’ part, but Auntie doesn’t seem to like me much...”

Every holiday or whenever he had time, Hai Zhao would visit the Yu Family, making all kinds of gestures to show his presence, yet Mrs. Yu always skipped over him when arranging blind dates for Xiaoxi.

”It’s not that she doesn’t like you; it’s because she’s too familiar with you. She hasn’t even considered you.”

Qian objectively commented that Hai Zhao was much more low-key than when she met him in their past life.

The former Mr. Hai was truly a playboy, with enough girlfriends to form several teams, eventually driven to psychological issues by women, leading to emotional and physical problems, almost becoming Qian’s patient.

When she first returned, she thought Hai Zhao was quite a flirt, but after spending so much time with Yu Minglang, getting to know Hai Zhao, Qian realized he wasn’t the playboy she imagined.

In his previous life, Hai Zhao became quite a rogue later on, changing girlfriends daily, but in this life, although he sometimes talked big, he never acted. He boasts about countless girlfriends but never brings any around.

In other words, the current Hai Zhao only appears to be a flirt, and the reason he doesn’t dare turn appearance into action is clearly because of the super femme fatale, Yu Mingxi.

”Well, help me speak a few words to Auntie. Don’t let an outsider benefit from an inside advantage. If this works out, you’ll eat for free at my place forever!”

Hai Zhao knew Qian’s standing in the Yu Family; Mrs. Yu always liked her and would surely listen to what she said.

”Hai Zhao, there’s something I’m not sure I should say.”

”Go ahead.”

”Sister Xiaoxi belongs to type 4 of the Enneagram, the perfectionist, though I prefer to call it the tragic romantic. It’s her inherent personality, while you’re type 7, the enthusiast. The two of you aren’t compatible personality-wise, especially since Xiaoxi leans towards an invasive type 4; deep down, she’s willful and unruly, you can’t handle her.”

Qian had done telephone hypnosis for Yu Mingxi for a while, gaining some understanding of her.

Tragic romantics, they constantly pursue perfection, unwilling to accept mundane emotions. It’s fair to say type 4s are the most willful in the Enneagram, while Hai Zhao is a type 7, unwilling to commit, seeking more options, clearly the most flirtatious in the Enneagram.

In short, singer Yu Mingxi is the legendary free-spirited woman, while Hai Zhao is the Peter Pan type of guy, not suited for each other.

”No matter how free-spirited she is, there’s always a time when a weary bird returns home. I’ve been waiting for her, I refuse to believe she won’t come back to me!” Hai Zhao said firmly.

Qian sighed.

”Let me give you a few words: let go to be free, persistence brings trouble.”

”I absolutely won’t give up, I’ve been waiting for so many years, a couple more won’t make a difference!”

Qian sighed, good advice is hard to heed for a damned soul, she’d done her best.

On the way back, Qian stayed silent, Yu Minglang, seeing her troubled look, asked her.

”What did Hai Zhao say to you?”

”Do you mind if he becomes your brother-in-law one day?” Qian believed Yu Minglang had figured it out long ago.

”Whether I mind is irrelevant, it mainly depends on whether Xiaoxi minds.”

Sure enough, he had figured it out, the only one who hadn’t was Hai Zhao himself, who perhaps knew he was deep in it but refused to leave.

Qian thought of how in their previous life, Yu Mingxi never married, and Hai Zhao became quite a libertine later on. She wondered what happened between them, believed it must have been Xiaoxi who hurt Hai Zhao, leading him to self-indulgence.

”What are you thinking about, your eyebrows are all knotted.” Yu Minglang freed a hand from the wheel to gently rub her brow.

”I was thinking about the parallel universe theory, how the same people facing different events can have different outcomes. Even though I study psychology, I don’t fully agree that personality determines fate.”

”Then what do you think determines fate?”

”Half is personality, the other half is the circumstances Heaven grants. Sometimes, no matter how hard one tries, they can’t fight against Heaven; without its opportunities, hard work is futile.”

Just like her previous self, and Hai Zhao from before.

”Then why do you still work so hard?”

”Because hard work doesn’t always bring opportunities, but without it, there are certainly none. I’m just an ordinary person, spending a life at odds with fate.”

May every person who strives not be mocked by destiny.

But that hope remains just hope. Fate never relents in tormenting anyone, which is why Qian found the hotlines still jam-packed at night.

Even though she limited questions to three minutes, the director still crammed all the lines full, with countless troubles waiting for her to address.

Yu Minglang sat in the control room, watching Qian at work, responding to various questions gracefully, handling everything with ease, showing no signs of strain.

The words he said over dinner clearly worked; without the pressure to marry, Qian’s whole demeanor had lifted.
