Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 387: Chapter 361: Don’t Be Greedy

Dong Yi lay on the bed; she actually wanted to continue pretending to be unconscious.

When Yu Mingyi came in, he already saw her eyes open, and closing them again would be too fake.

The man she wanted to see but dared not, liked but dared not express, stood at her bedside.

Caring for someone makes you sensitively aware of their every move, and Dong Yi felt that turning away would be too deliberate, but facing him would be awkward.

Yu Mingyi looked at her lying in bed, his heart a mix of emotions, but mostly it ached for her.

He broke the silence, ”You’ve lost weight.”

”Yes.”

Apart from that, neither of them spoke; a few seconds passed before Dong Yi broke the silence.

”How is Panpan’s condition?”

”He... is not doing well.” Yu Mingyi decided to be truthful.

”The child misses you very much, he’s been crying these past days.”

Dong Yi’s nose tingled, tears almost fell, but she couldn’t cry, she had to hold back.

If she let her emotions spill over now, it would trouble him even more; he might think she’s using Panpan to play on his feelings.

”Da Yi, I want to ask you, would you be willing... to help comfort Panpan?”

After Yu Mingyi said these words, he relaxed completely.

Although rationality told him that since he had decided not to burden her, he should sever any ties with Dong Yi completely. If the child cried, so be it. But seeing the child miss her so much, he—

Alright, those were just excuses anyway.

Yu Mingyi couldn’t even lie to himself. Everything he did now was instinctual, it even felt like he found satisfaction in fooling himself with excuses.

As long as he could delay the inevitable doom hanging over them, even if the end was predetermined, delaying it a bit was fine.

Dong Yi wanted to agree with all her heart; she missed Panpan very much, seeing him sick and still missing her, she couldn’t bear it.

But for some reason, what came out of her mouth turned into spiteful words.

”I don’t want to.”

Yu Mingyi’s eyes dimmed slightly.

”Okay, I respect your choice.”

After saying that, he got up to leave, as there was no excuse left for him to stay.

”If it’s convenient for you, don’t return the house, let Auntie bring Panpan over every week, and I can come over weekends after school starts to accompany Panpan.”

Yu Mingyi turned around; his desolate face lit up a little, Dong Yi forced herself not to look at his face, fearing she would lose control of her emotions again.

”You shouldn’t come, just let Auntie bring Panpan to see me alone; seeing me might trouble you again.”

Yu Mingyi felt his throat dry, his heart clenched. He wanted to say he wasn’t troubled, just afraid of affecting her, of people gossiping about her.

But he couldn’t say anything.

”Alright.”

”I think we should maturely face this issue. Although I don’t want to see you anymore, Panpan is innocent; I’m his attending doctor. If I give up halfway, Panpan might not adapt to another doctor, so let’s not meet again, be mindful to avoid me.”

Dong Yi spoke half in anger, half earnestly.

She hoped Yu Mingyi would contradict her, even subconsciously wishing he would give a reason to meet again.

”Alright, I won’t see you again.”

With those words, Yu Mingyi turned and left.

Dong Yi felt her heart freeze, burying her face silently in the blanket. He left so decisively, but it was all her own doing.

Qian’s words seemed to echo in her ears.

She had already enjoyed the process, experienced the wholehearted feeling of liking someone. To still hope for an outcome, even she felt it was greedy.

How could she be so greedy? He had saved her many times, yet she repeatedly made things difficult for him. Why couldn’t she just quietly have a crush on him, secretly liking him in the shadows?

She was too greedy... Dong Yi’s tears soaked into the pillow as she forced herself not to think about it.

The son of a general, a pilot with endless potential, what was she compared to him, how could she dare to dream of being with him? Just focus on taking care of Panpan, getting him well, repaying that life-saving favor back then, and think of nothing else.

But even if she can control her thoughts, her heart still hurts.

Perhaps this is the best ending for both of them; at this moment, Yu Mingyi and Dong Yi’s thoughts were in sync.

Yu Mingyi recalled Dong Yi’s coldness when she said she never wanted to see him again, a familiar yet strange pain began to spread.

As a pilot, being absolutely in tune with one’s physical state is crucial. After his divorce, the division performed precise checks on him, even the psychological intervention team came to test him. If his emotions were found unstable, they would grant him leave to calm down.

After all, in his line of work, not a single error is allowed; he must maintain an absolutely calm attitude.

But after stepping out of Dong Yi’s hospital room, Yu Mingyi actually felt an impulse to take leave and adjust his state. At this moment, he felt his emotions seemed out of control; in this state, he surely couldn’t fly.

Even after the divorce and learning Wang Xiaohong cheated, he hadn’t reacted like this. What was going on? It felt like there was a balloon in his heart, the air inside kept inflating, about to burst anytime, yet it didn’t, a nameless fire was spreading...

As Da Sao came towards him, seeing Mr. Yu with a dark expression, she called out.

”Old Yu, are you going home?”

”Yes. Please, Da Sao, take good care of Da Yi, after her infusion, prepare some nutritious tonics for her, put it on my tab.”

”Why don’t you wait until her infusion is done to take her back? The young girl is staying at Qian’s house; Qian and Minglang went back, you want her to find her way in an unfamiliar place to call a cab?”

Qian also didn’t expect Mr. Yu wouldn’t send Dong Yi off.

”Call a cab, I’m not in a good position to do so.”

”Alright.” Da Sao knew better than to ask unnecessary questions, suppressing her curiosity, planning to ask Qian what was going on later.

”By the way, Mr. Yu, your little aunt is also hospitalized here, do you want to take a look? The youngest couple just left right under her nose without a word, making her angry. Luckily, I think fast to gloss over.

Da Sao wasn’t aware of the issues between Xiao Gu and Minglang, only feeling that if both the youngest and Mr. Yu didn’t visit, Xiao Gu’s temper would definitely cause trouble upon return.

”I’ll go take a look.” Yu Mingyi inquired about Xiao Gu’s room, preparing to head over, suddenly remembered something, took one of the two little bread keychains from his pocket, and handed it to Da Sao.

”Da Sao, give this to Da Yi, just say you bought it, don’t mention me.”

”Okay.”

Once Yu Mingyi headed towards Xiao Gu, Da Sao held the bread keychain in her hand, finding the texture rather delightful.

”When did Mr. Yu get so good at making girls smile? He says there’s nothing with this girl, and yet I don’t believe it...” Da Sao watched Mr. Yu’s back, speaking to herself.
