Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 383: Chapter 357: United as a Family

Qi Yue, Mrs. Yu’s younger brother, was also a little rascal back then. Seeing her bully her sister, he teamed up with Mr. Yu to play tricks on her.

Then they were caught, and the aunt caused a scene, running to the grandparents to make a fuss. Mr. Yu sided with his wife, directly getting angry and warning the aunt that if she kept causing trouble, she’d better disappear and chill somewhere else. Only then did the aunt restrain herself a bit, but big troubles always led to smaller ones popping up.

Mrs. Yu tolerated it for the sake of her husband. Mr. Yu knew he had a peculiar sister and felt guilty towards his wife, so he was exceptionally kind to Mrs. Yu, cherishing her for most of her life.

This situation lasted until the little aunt got married and things got better. Mrs. Yu sighed in relief, but even the first few years after she got married weren’t peaceful. She kept going back to her parents’ home causing troubles, until her husband gradually climbed the career ladder, then things calmed down a little.

Because they knew their mother had been bullied, the children of the Yu Family weren’t too close to this aunt, though it didn’t show on their faces. Yu Laomao saying he’d take Qian to burn her house wasn’t being heartless; it had historical reasons.

Seeing Mrs. Yu staying silent, Qian winked at Yu Mingxi, ”It’s said that a naughty aunt is half a mother-in-law. Honestly, encountering a bullying sister-in-law is a real headache. Luckily, I’m blessed, my future mother-in-law treats me well, and my future big sister-in-law is a straightforward person. We’re all family, and we shouldn’t let outsiders bully us.”

Yu Mingxi nodded vigorously.

”Yes, yes, look at my sister-in-law’s understanding mindset, very much like our army’s unity and the spirit of joining forces against the enemy. It’s commendable.”

Earlier, they were calling her a fortune teller setting up stalls, and now she’s directly elevated to sister-in-law.

Mrs. Yu looked at the two kids seriously performing a skit, feeling amused, but on the surface remained calm, placing the fruit platter on the table. Yu Mingxi cautiously observed her mother’s reaction.

Mrs. Yu tapped her gently on the head and said, ”Don’t bully Qian anymore, okay?”

”With her cleverness, who’s bullying who?” Yu Mingxi had witnessed Qian’s wit.

”Alright, hurry up and drink, your dad will be back soon. If he sees you all finishing his wine, he’ll get angry again.”

”Um... Mom, you didn’t hear anything just now, right?” Yu Mingxi feared her mother would snitch, given that she managed to handle the family’s revered aunt.

If this reached the grandparents, she, as the new generation of family favorite, would be compared to the first generation, still slightly lacking.

”Hear what? I’ve been having headaches lately, my hearing intermittently declines. Are you all satisfied now? A bunch of brats, go on, clean up the table after you finish drinking!”

Just as Mrs. Yu stepped out, Yu Minglang and Yu Mingxi’s clapping and cheering echoed behind as if they were still kids.

Shaking her head with a laugh, she remembered how these two looked when they were young.

The twins always acted together when they were small. Although Yu Minglang always said he disliked his sister receiving all the love, anyone who bullied his sister wouldn’t have his approval. Yu Mingxi felt the same. When doing mischievous things, they were in sync, often caught leading the courtyard kids in teasing animals, and they’ve kept the habit of clapping hands to celebrate after mischief ever since.

So many years have passed in a flash. Yu Laomao has also found his other half; how quickly time flies.

Mrs. Yu glanced at the kang table, Yu Minglang was arm wrestling with Qian, energetically bantering with Yu Mingxi. Although Yu Mingxi didn’t give in verbally, the look she gave Qian wasn’t like one to an outsider, making Mrs. Yu feel relieved.

Perhaps Qian really had better fortune than her, at least she didn’t deal with brother-in-law issues for so long, being exhausted physically and mentally.

Life was really difficult dealing with an unreasonable sister-in-law. Mrs. Yu was self-aware that the daughter she raised might not make principle mistakes, but they definitely weren’t easy to deal with. For Qian to manage Yu Mingxi, she clearly had some real skills.

Just hoping that the second and third child could also soon settle down and find suitable partners, then the family would be truly complete. Mrs. Yu, thinking of this, wanted to call the second child to see if he could bring the kids home for a family dinner tonight.

At the moment, Mr. Yu, the second child, was standing outside a toy store’s window, staring at the dazzling array of toys in deep contemplation.

What should he buy to bring to his son?

The eldest had mentioned before that children’s toys should be replaced regularly, as playing with them helps develop their brains.

During the time she looked after Panpan, he often played with different toys, mostly made by Dong Yi. On one hand, it was to save money, and on the other, doing crafts together with the child enhanced parent-child interaction. If he returned early sometimes, he would join in creating.

The eldest was really skillful; she could craft a toy car from a cardboard box, sketch outlines with a paintbrush, stick on some wheels, and lead the child in manual coloring. Panpan loved it, always standing inside pretending to be a driver and playing for half a day.

Panpan was at the hospital earlier up front, with Mr. Yu, the eldest sister-in-law, helping comfort him. After the IV was done, they needed to take him home, as he was crying constantly, unable to be soothed by the second child.

As Qian predicted, bringing rubber ducks to such a large child was unlikely to please him.

So, the second child came out to see if he could buy something to stop his son from crying.

Suddenly, his gaze paused somewhere.

”How much for this?” Dong Yi pointed at a mini soccer ball.

She was standing not far from Yu Mingyi. This bunch were all toy sellers, with some shops bringing toys outside, packed in large cardboard boxes, priced lower.

Due to the cardboard’s blocking, Dong Yi didn’t see Yu Mingyi, but he recognized her voice.

At today’s engagement party, he really wanted to go up and say a few words to her, but didn’t know what to say. The last time they parted, he had hurt her, felt sorry but couldn’t find a better way to handle it.

Dong Yi focused on picking toys, seriously bargaining with the shop owner, bringing a five-yuan small soccer ball down to three yuan.

The shop owner grimaced, ”Hey girl, you’re too good at bargaining. Your husband is so lucky to have you as his wife, knowing how to manage the household.”

Dong Yi’s expression darkened, wanting to explain but ultimately remained silent.

”Smart girl, have a look again. My toys are on clearance, everything’s cheap. Buy your kid more, girl, see this, isn’t it great.”

The shop owner picked up a toy gun, Dong Yi shook her head.

”A child over two years old isn’t quite suitable for this. Do you have any wooden block puzzles? Preferably airplane puzzles.”

She recalled that Panpan always wanted a toy like that.

”Wait a moment, I’ll search—hey girl, there’re only trains, will that do?”

”Forget it, I’ll look elsewhere. He only likes planes.”
