Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 375: Chapter 349: Cooking Up Trouble

”Aren’t you angry?” Yu Mingxi asked.

”To be honest, I was a bit upset at first, but if you always react emotionally to things, you’ll lose more than you gain. It’s better to stay calm and analyze the root of the problem. After all, my job is to find a reasonable explanation in abnormal reactions.”

So far, except when facing Yu Minglang, Qian has never lost control of her emotions. Successful people are those who can be tough on themselves. Everyone feels anger when treated unfairly.

This also involves the psychological issue of high self-esteem versus low self-esteem. When someone’s abilities fall short of their dignity, even a slight remark can feel like an insult or an act of opposition. However, when one’s abilities reach a certain level, self-control becomes much stronger.

For example, in Qian’s eyes, no one can step on her. So, she doesn’t take minor provocations seriously. The only person she considers her equal is Yu Minglang, which is why she only shows a bit of normal human emotion in front of him.

After Qian’s analysis, Yu Mingxi had to concede.

”I’ve actually been schooled by someone much younger than me... You’re the only one in this family who can persuade me.”

This was true. Yu Mingxi’s status in the family was equivalent to that of the three brothers combined.

Mr. Yu had many brothers but few daughters. From the day Yu Mingxi was born, she was showered with endless affection and raised under the care of her three brothers. During her upbringing, she faced almost no setbacks from her family, only a bumpy road in love...

Qian also thought about Yu Mingxi’s past life. The Yu family’s dragon and phoenix twins were single for life. Yu Mingxi chose a single life just like Yu Minglang, perhaps because she never met the right person or for other reasons. But from Qian’s first impression of Yu Mingxi, she wasn’t great, but she wasn’t bad either.

Compared to brainless fools, Qian preferred to mingle with smart people. Yu Mingxi’s intelligence was definitely not low. You could tell from how she handled things.

”When we were at the hotel, you said I’d eventually fall for you. Was it because you saw through everything at that time?”

”Not exactly... I hadn’t communicated with my mother yet, and my analysis of you wasn’t thorough, but I instinctively felt I could help you.”

”Help me? What could I possibly need help with?” Yu Mingxi said sarcastically, ”I think I have it too good myself. I’m financially secure, have a stable job, and I’m successful in my career. I have everything I want.”

At the age of 25, she had achieved what ordinary people would take decades to accomplish. As an actress from a prominent family, Yu Mingxi knew she had the perfect mix of time, place, and people. Standing on stage to do what others couldn’t in a lifetime, she should be content. Anyone hearing her say she’s not well-off would think she’s being pretentious.

”The gift I’m giving you is something you’re definitely lacking,” Qian blinked.

”Oh? Tell me, what am I lacking? I can’t even think of what I’m missing.”

In fact, there were things she wanted but could never have in her lifetime.

”You lack sleep. I see your dark circles; you haven’t slept well in days, have you? Want to sleep? I can help you.”

”You?” Yu Mingxi looked at Qian and shook her head, ”I can only sleep a little after taking medicine, but recently even that’s not working. I’m tired of taking it. Once I lie down, I’m wide awake. My mind is full of things, but when I get up, I can’t do anything. It’s the same during the day. If I don’t get on stage, I can stay home all day, too tired to do anything.”

”When did you get this problem? How come I didn’t know?” Yu Minglang remembered Yu Mingxi used to be the one who slept the most at home.

”Exactly, back when the old man organized us for morning runs. If you couldn’t get up, he wouldn’t say anything to you. If Yu Laomao wanted to sleep in, he’d get hung up and beaten,” Mr. Yu recalled that time. But Yu Mingxi having insomnia? That sounded too mysterious.

Qian looked at Yu Minglang amusingly, and Yu Minglang sighed.

”I’ve always told you, I never had a status in this house. I suspect I’m just picked from a trash bin.”

When Yu Mingxi, once known as the sleep god of the Yu family, claimed to have severe insomnia, Mr. Yu and Yu Laomao didn’t believe it.

Qian answered professionally.

”I’m sure you’ve had your body checked and ruled out physiological causes of insomnia. But taking sleeping pills won’t address the condition, only control it at the nerve terminals. Whether they’re strong or mild sedatives, they all forced sleep by further suppressing the nervous system. Long-term use is bad for the body.”

”I know, but without them, I can’t sleep at all.” Yu Mingxi had tried many methods, but she just couldn’t sleep.

The pain of insomnia is something only those who experience it can understand. Many modern people suffer from insomnia, especially those under stress. Insomnia can lead to a variety of diseases, and in severe cases, it can cause depression and anxiety.

”A young adult staying awake for 72 hours straight can start hallucinating. It seems you’re almost there. Unlike your aunt’s case where her insomnia was intentionally disrupted, you need an external force to help you reach a restful state. I can help you.”

”Different from Aunt?” Mr. Yu caught the point immediately. Qian gave Yu Minglang a look, and Yu Minglang promptly put his arm around Mr. Yu’s shoulder, dragging him to the study.

”Let’s have a drink and let my dear Qian spend some time with Xiaoxi.”

”What are you two up to again?” Mr. Yu immediately knew there was a secret between Yu Minglang and Qian.

”What could possibly be happening? Come on, I know where the old man hides his liquor. Let’s drink it up before he gets back.”

Yu Mingxi’s bedroom was the largest in the Yu family, even though she only came back a few times a year, it was clean and tidy, with a faint floral scent in the air.

Yu Mingxi returned to her bedroom, habitually made a round. The lantern flowers on the windowsill were in bud. Last time she was back, they were just tiny plants.

”Did I just say that my aunt also had insomnia?” Yu Mingxi sat on the bed while Qian took a seat on the chair by her desk.

”Yes, but her insomnia was caused by external forces combined with her own obsessions, preventing her from sleeping.”

Qian had tormented herself for almost a month to deliver this ”gift” to her aunt, making silent phone calls every night. Wasn’t easy!

”Was the external force you?” Yu Mingxi asked directly.

Qian lowered her head, pretending to rub her eyes, ”My contact lenses aren’t very comfortable.”

”Avoiding the question?”
