Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 379: Chapter 353: Qian Cooks

The Yu Family’s little aunt has a day off today.

Yu Minglang is still drinking and bragging with his brother, discussing child-rearing issues as if he has raised children before. No one can help Qian.

Qian scanned her surroundings and began to study the kitchen equipment.

She was seriously pondering it.

Glutinous rice balls can be fried, boiled, or steamed. Frying is too challenging and has gone wrong before, so boiling is the safest option.

As a well-educated female boss, Qian was particularly cautious about tasks that might expose her, especially after surveying the kitchen thoroughly. She finally came up with a brilliant idea.

Using the gas stove was out of the question; she feared blowing up the kitchen.

The pressure cooker also seemed dangerous, and the microwave probably couldn’t handle glutinous rice balls. Qian set her sights on the rice cooker.

This is perfect.

She had used the rice cooker to cook instant noodles before. Although she couldn’t explain why the broth overflowed, at least it was safe, and they were cooked!

Qian felt she was incredibly clever. Perfect, let’s go for it!

Mrs. Yu chatted with Mingxi for a while. Just as Qian predicted, following the hints, Mingxi indeed dreamt about some unusual things, while the two were chatting away, Yu Minglang came in.

”Mom, are your glutinous rice balls ready?”

”Oh, Qian is cooking them.”

”Who?!” Yu Minglang seemed to have heard something incredible. The alcohol-induced chill instantly vanished.

He felt a chill down his back.

”Qian is cooking them—it’s fine. It’s just a packet of glutinous rice balls; it shouldn’t be problematic.”

At this moment, Mrs. Yu was extremely satisfied with her young daughter-in-law, feeling that Qian was the embodiment of being a jack-of-all-trades.

However, this impression was about to be shattered.

Upon hearing this, Yu Minglang thought, what on earth, daring to leave his dear Qian alone in the kitchen? This was unacceptable!

Who is Qian?

She’s someone who can burn down half of a kitchen wall using the simplest method!

Ever since he witnessed her burning the wall last time, Yu Minglang silently vowed never to allow Mei into the kitchen!

Yu Minglang rushed into the kitchen. Mrs. Yu, Mingxi, and Mr. Yu, who came upon hearing the commotion, found Yu Laomao’s reaction odd and followed him out.

Upon pushing the kitchen door open, the Yu Family witnessed a sight they would never forget.

”Ah!!!” Mrs. Yu covered her mouth, rubbing her eyes in disbelief.

Mr. Yu sobered up; the fat on his face quivering.

Mingxi’s mouth could fit an egg, only regaining her voice after some time.

”Hi~ Did you cast a spell on the glutinous rice balls so they all collectively jumped out, feeling the freedom?”

What a singer indeed, listen to this elegant phrasing.

The Yu Family’s rice cooker had a lid that was difficult to open, not the detachable metal kind.

At this moment, this rather luxurious rice cooker was covered in glutinous rice balls, and the floor stuck to two unidentifiable flattened objects. Judging by their color and taste, they seemed to be glutinous rice balls. A visibly embarrassed Qian held the unplugged power cord in her hand. The vent on the rice cooker was still spraying glutinous rice balls, demonstrating how these little creatures that were supposed to be plump and joyful in the pot escaped and became flat monsters emerging from the sealed rice cooker.

The scene was silent.

Only Yu Minglang darted over in one step, holding Qian’s hand to inspect closely.

”Qian, are you okay? Did you burn yourself?”

”I’m fine... It’s just, I made the kitchen dirty...” Qian swore, in her imagination, she should have cooked this seemingly simple ingredient into round, plump, white glutinous rice balls, elegantly served on a porcelain platter.

Then, her inability in the kitchen would be concealed.

But unexpectedly, the rice cooker betrayed her...

What went wrong, how did it explode?

Mr. Yu confirmed he wasn’t drunk and hallucinating; he gulped, looking at the flat monsters on the floor and the last struggling glutinous rice ball stuck at the vent, stating seriously.

”Qian, oh, Brother’s nearly 40 years alive, and finally opened his eyes. It’s the first time seeing glutinous rice balls coming out of here.”

Mingxi amused, looked at her mom, ”Mom, are you sure she’s better than me? Even if I boiled the glutinous rice balls into sesame paste, at least they stayed in the pot though their physical state changed but their nutritional content remained!”

The term ’kitchen idiot’ officially changed hands after Qian’s arrival, how refreshing~

Qian chuckled dryly.

”I think maybe I’m just not used to this cooker. My family, uh, being poor, yep, I’m the child of poor parents, never seen such a nice cooker, and then—how about I try again with the gas stove?”

Strange, where exactly did she go wrong for this to happen?

”Quick! Xiaoxi, hurry and take your sister-in-law inside for a rest!” Upon hearing more cooking was needed, Mrs. Yu quickly moved them inside. If a kitchen explosion happened in the courtyard, that would be too much...

”I’ll go too and have a look.” Sensing something off, Yu Minglang held Qian’s waist, wanting to sneak away.

He got pulled back by Mrs. Yu by the arm.

”You stay and clean the floor for me!”

”Why!!!” Yu Minglang felt so aggrieved.

He was promised an afternoon tea, wasn’t he?

”Wife’s debt, husband’s payback. Have you forgotten what you said on stage today? Accept it, Laomao.” Mr. Yi laughed joyfully.

Hmm, this incident needs to be told to the wife later, hahaha!

”You stay and clean the floor.” Mrs. Yu pointed at Mr. Yu.

Mr. Yu stopped laughing.

”Mom, I’m at this age—”

Moreover, it was Laomao’s wife’s doing, why was he also caught in this?

”Your belly’s so big, exercise is good. Quickly, each takes a cloth and cleans up, once it dries, it won’t come off...”

Thanks to Qian, the two men who were waiting to enjoy ready-to-eat tea reluctantly bent in the kitchen cleaning the floor, cloth each.

Qian gave Yu Minglang a look of infinite sympathy before decisively leaving the kitchen, letting her escape this sad place. The flat little monsters on the floor reminded her of what she’d done.

”Husband and wife were like birds of a forest~” Yu Minglang hummed a tune.

”In great calamities, they fly separately.” Qian chimed in, instantly feeling the sharp knives in the eyes directed towards her as she turned to see Yu Minglang, glaring without a word.

Clearing her throat, ”Um, I’m not not helping you, it’s just there’s some terminology in psychology...called Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, it talks about how after experiencing huge trauma, a person’s mood becomes extraordinarily low, and this kitchen has become a dark memory for me, I have to escape to break the vicious cycle of my emotions.”

”To justify running away like this, my wife is incredible...” Yu Minglang whispered, accepting his fate cleaning the floor.

This promise he made, even while squatting, must be fulfilled...
