Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 197: Chapter 197: Caring for Each Other

”Don’t you think Yu Mingyi is acting strange? Why is he reading those books! He’s not the one who had a daughter, but he’s reading about how a father should properly guide a teenage girl’s perspective on love—Old guy, you don’t think something’s wrong with him, right?”

”What could be wrong? Move over, don’t block my view of Animal World.”

Mr. Yu turned on the TV, and Mrs. Yu got upset.

”Why are you so unconcerned about our son!”

”He’s already 30 years old, what’s there to be troubled about? Yu Mingyi has been a good child since he was young, when has he ever made us worry? Stop overthinking, sit down and watch TV.”

”That’s true...” Mrs. Yu thought for a moment, Yu Mingyi should be fine. That child has been smart and well-behaved since childhood, hopefully it’s just her overthinking.

The day before the second treatment for Panpan, Qian happened to receive a call from Jia Xiufang, asking her to return home quickly, so Qian was absent the next day. Mr. Liu took Dong Yi to go, but halfway through, he had an urgent matter. Seeing that Dong Yi could handle it alone, Mr. Liu left first.

Dong Yi followed what Qian and Mr. Liu taught her, completed the entire treatment. After the treatment, Panpan was exhausted and fell asleep shortly after, leaving Dong Yi and Yu Mingyi alone.

”Uncle—”

”Dong Yi—”

The two spoke at the same time and then both stopped.

”You go first!”

”You go first!”

Such tacit understanding, there’s really no one else like them.

Xiaolong gestured for Dong Yi to speak first. Dong Yi organized her thoughts, and finally found a reasonable way to say it.

”Uncle, missed opportunities must mean they’re not suitable. If you’re feeling sad, you’re welcome to talk to me anytime. I’m willing to be your listener. Don’t hide your sadness, what I mean is, actually a person’s world can also be wonderfully exciting. Don’t suppress yourself until you fall ill.”

Dong Yi thought for so long, but when she saw Yu Mingyi’s serious face, she found it hard to speak smoothly.

She’s still not as professional as Qian. When Qian does psychotherapy, she always looks so natural. Dong Yi feels she’s a bit too rigid.

She didn’t dare to look at what expression Yu Mingyi had.

Yu Mingyi was amused, this little one, went round and round, what exactly was she trying to say?

”Are you talking about my divorce?”

”Ah, I’m not, sorry, I just—did I make things worse?” She actually wanted to be like Qian, very subtle, very mysterious, quietly giving some soul-soothing ideas. But instead of quietly soothing, it seemed like she dumped a bowl of chicken soup over Uncle’s head, drenching him.”

She hoped to reach Qian’s level, it seems that will take a long time...so frustrated.

”I’m okay, you don’t need to worry.” Yu Mingyi saw how guilty Dong Yi looked, and silently swallowed down those theories he read about educating little girls from the book.

Forget it, he and Dong Yi have similar personalities, both not good at advising others. Seeing the effect of Dong Yi’s words, Yu Mingyi thought if he followed the prepared lines to advise Dong Yi not to date those boys with Mohawk haircuts, it wouldn’t be suitable either.

”After divorce, I still wonder if she’s doing well.” Yu Mingyi held his already asleep son, saying things he had never shared with others.

These words, even to family, he hadn’t said before.

”If there’s still affection, you can try to reconcile, after all, with Panpan, giving the child a complete family is better for his growth.”

Dong Yi sat on the sofa with him, they naturally started chatting.

”It’s not about affection, just a bit worried about her health, heard her recent treatment is going well, so I’m relieved.”

”Still concerned about each other after separating, Uncle, you must be someone who treasures feelings.”

Yu Mingyi laughed, ”Why am I telling you, this little girl, these things? You stay here a while, I’ll put Panpan to bed. Wait for my mother to come over, and I’ll send you back to school.”

Yu Mingyi went inside to settle his son, Dong Yi saw there was nothing much to do, so she helped Yu Mingyi clean up the room, wiped the table, and mopped the floor.

While she was tidying up, she accidentally knocked over a folder from under the coffee table, spilling its contents.

She quickly picked them up, and accidentally saw the content on them.

The handwriting was very neat and strong, just like the person, it was written by Yu Mingyi himself, but its content left Dong Yi somewhat unable to process.

Yu Mingyi came out to find her looking at his resignation letter, Dong Yi quickly put it down, awkwardly saying.

”I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to look through your things, I bumped into them while tidying up...”

”Hmm, it’s okay. Anyway, everyone will know sooner or later.”

”Uncle, are you really... going to resign?” Dong Yi found it hard to believe.

”Hmm, it was written a year ago, I just haven’t submitted it yet. With my level, to resign, the contract term isn’t enough, still can work for a few more years.”

It was actually written long ago... Dong Yi still couldn’t believe it.

”Why? Uncle, you don’t like your job?”

”...”

”Uncle, can you tell me?”

”...”

”You won’t say anything, I’m really worried about you...” Dong Yi was anxious, didn’t know what to say, then suddenly thought of a tactic often used by Qian. She looked up, tears in her eyes, at Yu Mingyi.

”Qian said, my condition just started to improve, I shouldn’t be too anxious, if I get anxious, maybe the sleepwalking will happen again. Don’t make me worry, okay?”

Yu Mingyi often saw Wang Xiaohong cry before, but Wang Xiaohong cried for various ”sorry” reasons to him, trying to use tears as a weapon. Over time, Yu Mingyi became instinctively resistant to women’s tears. But Dong Yi’s tears were different, they were out of concern for him.

Recalling Dong Yi’s awkward comfort, Yu Mingyi realized that if this thoughtful little girl didn’t know the truth, she would always be uneasy, so he settled on the sofa to explain to her.

”You don’t need to worry. I wanted to resign, it’s something I decided a long time ago.”

Back then, his mom urged him to marry, he thought that his father certainly wouldn’t agree, and Wang Xiaohong’s personality, if he continued to rise, would definitely cause trouble. Considering everything, his father would inevitably agree, painfully. His parents’ wishes could all be upheld, he personally had no big concept of marriage, always thought whoever he married would be the same, just happened that a friend’s plea, so he married.

In the end, it made everyone miserable. Wang Xiaohong’s condition didn’t get better, even worsened, his parents were unhappy, and Yu Mingyi was somewhat confused.

”Why did you want to resign a long time ago?”

Mrs. Yu returned from buying groceries outside, stood at the door just about to get her key to enter, and stopped upon hearing this.

The house’s soundproofing isn’t good, just one thin door, the two talking on the sofa, she could hear everything clearly.

”Now my situation is no longer suitable for continuing to fly, I need to find a way to tell father this matter without hurting his feelings.”
