Medical and Martial God

Chapter 165: Chapter 165: Yesterday’s Cause, Today’s Effect

”Tian Ye, please hang a sign at the entrance of Qiancheng Farm stating that it’s temporarily closed to all outsiders,” Ye Xiu said.

”Alright!” Tian Ye nodded.

”Ye Xiu!” Di Shanxiong was furious. ”According to Dragon Hollyhock’s family, she made her last phone call from Qiancheng Farm, and it was the last place she was seen. I have strong reason to suspect she died inside the farm. If you won’t cooperate with my investigation, does that mean you’re the murderer?”

This was a clever move. In Di Shanxiong’s mind, if Ye Xiu wanted to clear himself of suspicion, he had no choice but to cooperate.

”You suspect I’m the murderer?” Ye Xiu asked.

”That’s right!” Di Shanxiong sneered. ”If you don’t cooperate, I’ll report this to the authorities. Hmph, once the Patrol Bureau gets involved, with your reputation, the whole country will soon know that Xuanse, the Medicine King, is a murder suspect...”

”Go ahead and report it,” Ye Xiu interrupted. ”Once the Patrol Bureau arrives, I will cooperate fully with their investigation.”

Di Shanxiong was dumbstruck, looking at Ye Xiu in disbelief. He couldn’t understand why Ye Xiu would rather risk his reputation by involving the authorities than simply cooperate with him.

However, he couldn’t possibly be the one to report it. He had received a hefty commission from his client. If the Patrol Bureau got involved, he would lose control of the case and have to return the money.

”You said you were going to report me, didn’t you? Go on, why haven’t you?” Ye Xiu asked mockingly.

”You...” Embarrassed and enraged, Di Shanxiong retorted, ”Ye Xiu, as the world’s number one Divine Detective, my network runs deep through all sectors of society. Don’t do this the hard way. If you piss me off, you’ll face consequences you can’t handle.”

”Then tell me about your connections in Jin Ye City. Let’s see if any of them can scare me,” Ye Xiu said playfully.

”Don’t push me!” Di Shanxiong shouted.

”So what if I am?” Ye Xiu challenged.

”Fine, just you wait.” Fuming, Di Shanxiong took out his phone, opened his contacts, and showed his list of Jin Ye City connections to Ye Xiu. ”Take a good look. These people hold significant power in Jin Ye City. I’m giving you one last chance. If you still refuse to cooperate, I’ll start making calls.”

”Oh, you certainly know quite a few bigwigs in Jin Ye City,” Ye Xiu remarked. ”Go on, then. Call them one by one.”

”You...”

Seeing Ye Xiu’s utterly unconcerned expression, Di Shanxiong could no longer hold back and immediately dialed Xing Haiqing’s number. ”Young Master Xing, it’s Shanxiong. I’m at Qiancheng Farm and having a bit of trouble with Ye Xiu, could you come over—”

On the other end, Xing Haiqing snapped, ”Scram! If you’re looking for death, don’t drag me down with you.”

What the hell?! Even the young master of the Xing Family doesn’t dare to provoke Ye Xiu?

Undeterred, Di Shanxiong tried Zuo You’s number. ”Young Master Zuo, Ye Xiu and I have had a little disagreement at Qiancheng Farm...”

”What did you do to my big brother?” Zuo You demanded instantly.

Wait! Ye Xiu is Zuo You’s big brother?

Next, Di Shanxiong called his connections in Jin Ye City one after another. As soon as he mentioned Ye Xiu’s name, the response was always the same: they either hung up immediately, cursed him out, or threatened him, demanding he apologize to Ye Xiu.

Di Shanxiong was flabbergasted. He suddenly realized Ye Xiu’s network in Jin Ye City was terrifyingly extensive. Absolutely no one dared to provoke him.

”Finished with your calls?” Ye Xiu asked.

”Cough, cough...” Di Shanxiong’s mouth twitched, a knot of fear tightening in his stomach.

”Did a donkey kick you in the head, or did you skip breakfast and your brain is lacking oxygen? How dare you compare connections and influence with me? In my presence, you, the so-called ’world’s number one Divine Detective,’ are nothing but a pile of shit,” Ye Xiu said with disdain.

Di Shanxiong stood in stunned silence.

”Alright, since your connections are useless, let’s try mine.” Ye Xiu took out his phone and dialed the Supervisor of the Jin Ye City Patrol Bureau. ”Chief Liu, some guy claiming to be the ’world’s number one Divine Detective’ is here causing trouble. What? You want to talk to him? Okay...”

Ye Xiu handed the phone to Di Shanxiong. ”It’s the Supervisor of the Jin Ye City Patrol Bureau.”

Di Shanxiong trembled as he took the phone, forcing a fawning smile. ”Hello, Chief Liu, this is Di Shanxiong. Ye Xiu and I... What? You want me to go to the Patrol Bureau and turn myself in for investigation? But I haven’t done anything illegal! Alright, alright, I’ll go right now...”

Hanging up, Di Shanxiong’s face was as pale as a sheet. He was utterly dumbfounded. He never imagined Ye Xiu’s influence was so terrifying that a single sentence could have the Patrol Bureau Supervisor order him to surrender.

”Go on, be a good boy and turn yourself in at the Patrol Bureau for investigation.” Ye Xiu took his phone back and said with a knowing smirk, ”Over the years, you’ve interfered in numerous criminal cases without any authorization from the Official Family, all while accepting hefty commissions. If they decide to get serious, you could spend the next few years in prison.”

He leaned in closer. ”And I hope for your sake you haven’t done anything else illegal as a private detective. If they find anything, you know the consequences better than I do, right?”

THUD!

Di Shanxiong suddenly dropped to his knees. ”Divine Doctor Ye, I was blind! I’m a piece of trash!” he cried in a panic. ”A great man like you shouldn’t concern yourself with the offenses of a nobody like me. Please, spare my worthless life!”

At this moment, Di Shanxiong’s dignity was the furthest thing from his mind. Over the years as a private detective, he had indeed committed many illegal acts that wouldn’t withstand scrutiny. If they were all uncovered, he would likely spend the rest of his life in prison.

”I seem to recall kneeling before you just like this ten years ago. What did you say to me then?” Ye Xiu asked, looking down at the man with a cold voice.

”I...” Di Shanxiong was speechless. He couldn’t remember his exact words from a decade ago, but he knew they must have been vile, or Ye Xiu wouldn’t be retaliating so ruthlessly now.

”Divine Doctor Ye, I was wrong! Please, give me a chance to turn over a new leaf! I swear I’ll only do good from now on! I’ll—I’ll only take cases for the poor, for free! Please, I’m begging you, spare me...” Di Shanxiong pleaded, banging his forehead against the ground again and again.

”Divine Doctor Ye, it seems he’s truly remorseful. Why not give him another chance?” Tian Ye timidly interceded.

”One can survive a disaster from the heavens, but not one of their own making. He is simply reaping what he sowed. His death would be no great loss,” Ye Xiu said indifferently.

Tian Ye fell silent.

In truth, Di Shanxiong was just unlucky. Ye Xiu had long forgotten about him and had not included him on his list of targets for revenge. But the fool had delivered himself right to his doorstep by taking on Dragon Hollyhock’s case. Ye Xiu had to get rid of him. Only then would the Long Family send their own people.

BEEP BEEP...

Just then, a dozen cars sped toward the farm entrance and screeched to a halt. A large crowd of dozens of people poured out of the vehicles.

Seeing this, Ye Xiu began to smile.

The families of Niu Tianci, Gu Xuesheng, and the other rich heirs had finally arrived.
