Tick.

The sound echoed through the apartment.

Tick.

Dillan couldn’t look away.

The silver pocket watch rested quietly on his desk beside the paper crane and the faded red ribbon.

Three objects.

Three pieces of a forgotten childhood.

Now...

One of them was alive.

”...4:18...”

He whispered.

”It moved.”

The System notification still floated before him.

[Artifact Synchronization: 1%]

[Chronological Lock Released.]

”...Released from what?”

The blue window flickered once.

No answer came.

The next morning...

Dillan walked into Guardian Network Headquarters carrying the watch in his pocket.

Not because anyone had asked him to.

Because...

For some reason...

Leaving it behind felt impossible.

Inside the laboratory...

Dr. Yeon immediately requested another examination.

”...Place it here.”

She pointed toward a reinforced observation chamber.

Dillan carefully placed the pocket watch inside.

Nothing happened.

Dr. Yeon activated every scanner she had.

Mana detection.

Dimensional frequency.

Magnetic resonance.

Quantum displacement.

Every machine returned the same result.

UNKNOWN

”...Again.”

She sighed.

”I hate that word.”

Dana leaned against the doorway.

”...You’re saying the world’s fanciest scanners can’t tell what a watch is?”

”...Correct.”

”...That’s disappointing.”

”It is.”

Commander Yuna entered moments later.

”Any progress?”

Dr. Yeon slowly shook her head.

”No energy signature.”

”No mana.”

”No dimensional origin.”

”It’s almost...”

She frowned.

”...Invisible.”

Lyra quietly stepped toward the observation chamber.

She didn’t look at the watch.

She looked...

Beyond it.

”...No.”

She whispered.

”It’s hiding.”

Everyone looked toward her.

”...What?”

”The watch isn’t invisible.”

”It’s refusing...”

”...To be observed.”

Silence settled across the laboratory.

Meanwhile...

Sasha quietly waited outside.

She hadn’t entered the laboratory.

She knew Dr. Yeon disliked interruptions during examinations.

Instead...

She sat on a nearby bench reading a novel.

Or rather...

Pretending to read.

She hadn’t turned a page in nearly twenty minutes.

Her thoughts remained fixed on the old man from Dillan’s memories.

”...Who were you...”

She whispered.

Across the hallway...

Sera approached carrying two cups of tea.

”...Mind if I join you?”

Sasha smiled.

”...Not at all.”

She accepted one cup.

”...Thank you.”

For several moments...

Neither woman spoke.

Steam drifted gently upward between them.

Finally...

Sera broke the silence.

”...He’s remembering you.”

”...Slowly.”

Sasha nodded.

”...Yes.”

”...Does it make you happy?”

A soft smile appeared.

”...Very.”

”...Does it make you afraid?”

The smile weakened.

Just slightly.

”...Yes.”

Sera looked toward the laboratory door.

”...Because?”

Sasha lowered her eyes to her tea.

”...What if...”

She hesitated.

”...He remembers everything...”

”...And realizes...”

Her voice grew almost inaudible.

”...I’m not the same little girl anymore.”

Silence.

Sera studied her carefully.

This wasn’t obsession speaking.

This was insecurity.

The fear of meeting someone after years apart and discovering the memory had become more beautiful than reality.

”...He won’t.”

Sera finally said.

Sasha looked up.

”...How do you know?”

”...Because Dillan doesn’t remember people perfectly.”

”He remembers...”

She smiled gently.

”...How they made him feel.”

For the first time that day...

Sasha’s eyes softened.

”...Thank you.”

Inside the laboratory...

The watch ticked again.

Tick.

Every monitor instantly flickered.

Dr. Yeon’s scanners shut themselves off.

The lights dimmed.

Then...

The watch lid slowly opened by itself.

No one touched it.

Inside...

The engraved sentence shimmered faintly.

When time remembers you...

Remember who you were.

The ticking stopped.

Instead...

A voice echoed quietly through the room.

Not from the watch.

From everywhere.

Old.

Patient.

The same voice as the Watcher.

”The first lock has opened.”

Commander Yuna immediately reached for her weapon.

”Show yourself.”

Silence.

The voice continued.

”The child remembers.”

”The man has not.”

Lyra slowly stepped forward.

”...What are the locks?”

No answer.

Only another sentence.

”When the seventh opens...”

”...Time will remember its king.”

Every monitor exploded into static.

The voice vanished.

The laboratory returned to normal.

The watch quietly closed itself.

Click.

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

Dana finally broke the silence.

”...Did anyone else hear that?”

”...Yes.”

Commander Yuna answered.

”...Unfortunately.”

Later that evening...

Dillan walked through headquarters alone.

His thoughts refused to settle.

Seven locks.

A Watcher.

A king.

None of it made sense.

As he passed the reception hall...

He noticed something strange.

The old grandfather clock near the entrance.

It had stopped.

Frozen.

Exactly...

At 4:18.

He frowned.

”...Coincidence?”

He looked around.

Every clock inside the lobby...

Displayed the same time.

4:18.

Every single one.

Then...

Without warning...

All of them ticked forward together.

4:19.

Every clock resumed working normally.

People continued walking as though nothing had happened.

Nobody reacted.

Nobody noticed.

Except Dillan.

His heartbeat quickened.

”...No...”

A quiet voice spoke behind him.

”...You noticed.”

He spun around.

The Watcher stood at the end of the hallway.

Perfectly still.

Golden eyes glowing beneath the hood.

No one else acknowledged him.

Employees walked directly past him.

As if he didn’t exist.

Dillan took one cautious step forward.

”...Who are you?”

The Watcher tilted his head.

”...You already know.”

”...I don’t.”

”...Not yet.”

He slowly turned away.

”...When the watch reaches its rightful hour...”

”...Ask me again.”

He took one more step.

And disappeared into empty air.

Leaving only one final sentence echoing in Dillan’s mind.

”Do not let the Architect wake before you remember your name.”

The hallway fell silent.

Dillan stood alone.

One terrifying thought slowly settled into his mind.

What if... ”Dillan Ruren”... wasn’t his original name?

The hallway was empty.

The Watcher had vanished.

Again.

Dillan looked around.

Researchers walked past him carrying stacks of documents.

Two Hunters argued over mission reports.

The receptionist answered another phone call.

Life continued normally.

No one had seen the hooded man.

”...Am I the only one...”

He whispered.

His hand instinctively reached into his pocket.

The pocket watch.

Still there.

Warm.

Almost...

Reassuring.

”...Dillan?”

He looked up.

Dana stood several meters away.

”...You’ve been standing there for almost five minutes.”

”...Really?”

She nodded.

”...You okay?”

He hesitated.

Then sighed.

”...The Watcher came back.”

Her expression immediately hardened.

”...Where?”

”Right here.”

She looked around the lobby.

Nothing.

”...Did he say anything?”

Dillan swallowed.

”...He told me...”

”...Not to let the Architect wake...”

”...Before I remember my name.”

Dana frowned.

”...Your name?”

”...Exactly.”

Half an hour later...

Commander Yuna listened without interrupting.

When Dillan finished...

The room remained silent.

Dr. Yeon finally spoke.

”...Do you think he meant another identity?”

”...Maybe.”

Commander Yuna answered.

”...Or maybe...”

She looked toward Lyra.

”...Names have different meanings in higher layers.”

Lyra nodded slowly.

”They do.”

Everyone looked at her.

”In Layer Seven...”

She spoke quietly.

”...A true name isn’t just what people call you.”

”...It’s what reality recognizes you as.”

Silence.

”If someone forgets their true name...”

”They lose more than memories.”

Dana folded her arms.

”...Like what?”

Lyra’s silver eyes rested on Dillan.

”...Parts of themselves.”

Nobody spoke after that.

That afternoon...

Dillan decided he needed fresh air.

He wandered through the city without any destination.

The streets bustled with people.

Children laughed outside cafés.

Hunters hurried toward Association offices.

Life had adapted surprisingly quickly after the Gates opened.

As he crossed an old shopping district...

He noticed something familiar.

A tiny bookstore.

Its faded wooden sign swayed gently above the entrance.

Something about it tugged at him.

”...I’ve been here.”

He frowned.

”...Haven’t I?”

Without thinking...

He stepped inside.

The bookstore smelled of old paper and cedar wood.

Books lined every wall.

The elderly owner looked up from behind the counter.

”...Welcome.”

Then...

The old man’s smile slowly faded.

His eyes widened ever so slightly.

”...You...”

Dillan blinked.

”...Have we met?”

The old bookseller quietly studied him.

”...No.”

A pause.

”...Not yet.”

Something about the answer felt strange.

”...Can I help you find something?”

”I...”

Dillan looked around.

”...Actually...”

”I don’t know why I came in.”

The old man smiled again.

”...Sometimes memories walk...”

”...Before people do.”

The sentence made Dillan freeze.

”...What?”

But the bookseller had already turned away to organize another shelf.

As though he hadn’t spoken at all.

Meanwhile...

Across the city...

Sasha received another envelope.

This one had no message inside.

Only...

A photograph.

Eight-year-old Sasha.

Standing beside eight-year-old Dillan beneath the old oak tree.

Someone had drawn a black line between them.

Separating the children.

On the back...

Three handwritten words.

History can change.

Sasha stared at the photograph for a very long time.

Then quietly folded it.

Her hands trembled.

”...No.”

She whispered.

”...You won’t touch that.”

At Guardian Network Headquarters...

Mira had reached a frustrating conclusion.

Every trace of the Watcher vanished after exactly twenty-four hours.

Photographs disappeared.

Camera footage rewrote itself.

Digital records corrupted.

”...He’s editing reality.”

She whispered.

Dr. Yeon looked over.

”...Can reality be edited?”

”...I don’t know anymore.”

Elsewhere...

Lyra stood inside the Resonance Chamber.

The invisible Field spread peacefully across Seoul.

Then...

Something unexpected happened.

A tiny pulse answered from outside the city.

Not from beneath it.

Not from another layer.

From somewhere...

Far beyond Korea.

Lyra’s expression slowly changed.

”...Another Anchor...”

She whispered.

The pulse disappeared immediately.

As though whoever had sent it hadn’t intended to be discovered.

Late that evening...

Dillan left the bookstore carrying only one purchase.

A thin leather-bound notebook.

He hadn’t planned to buy it.

The old bookseller had simply handed it to him.

”...You’ll need somewhere...”

”...To write the things you remember.”

Dillan hadn’t argued.

Now...

Back in his apartment...

He opened the notebook.

The first page was blank.

Except...

It wasn’t.

Tiny faded handwriting already occupied the center.

One sentence.

Written in ink so old it had nearly disappeared.

If you’re reading this again... it means you forgot.

Dillan’s breathing stopped.

Slowly...

He turned the page.

Another sentence waited.

Don’t panic.

His hands began shaking.

He flipped another page.

Another message.

I wrote this for you.

The handwriting...

Matched his own perfectly.

The pocket watch ticked once.

The apartment lights flickered.

And somewhere...

Very far away...

The Watcher quietly smiled.

”...Good.”

He whispered into the darkness.

”...You found your first letter.”
