Mine Alone: A Yandere's Devotion

Day fifty-seven.

Mira published the document at 6 AM.

Not the architect’s conversation document — the thirty-day window was still in effect. Something else. The document she’d been writing about the compass itself. What it was. How it had assembled. The accurate record of fifty-seven days.

He found out through the field — the specific quality of her frequency at 6 AM shifting from the writing register to the release register. The bright directed pattern deploying outward.

He texted her immediately.

The thirty-day window.

Her reply: > This isn’t the architect document. Different document.

We agreed on consultation before release, he sent.

We agreed on the architect document, she sent. This one is mine.

He held the phone.

He thought about the conversation two days ago. About the document stays in the archive, thirty days, then we revisit. About Dana and Mira disagreeing about timing.

He thought about whether Mira was technically correct.

She was.

They’d agreed on the architect document specifically.

She’d written something different and released it without telling anyone.

He texted Dana: Did you know about this.

Dana: > No. I’m reading it now.

He texted Vale: Mira published something.

Vale: > I see it. Reading.

He set the phone down.

Read the document himself.

It was good.

That was the first honest thing he had to acknowledge. Mira had written something accurate and carefully constructed — the compass’s assembly, each frequency’s function, the genuine quality of the bonds, the meta-architecture’s context given in accessible terms without the full disclosure of the architect’s conversation.

It was the most honest public account of what they were that existed.

It was also eighty-three million people reading about the compass before the compass had agreed to let them.

His phone was producing notifications at a rate that required turning the sound off.

He didn’t turn it off.

He let it ring.

Dana arrived at the facility at 7:30.

She came in with the journal and the specific quality of someone who had read the document three times and had assembled the pattern of what had happened and what it meant.

She sat across from him.

”The recorder function,” she said.

”Yes,” he said.

”She decided the thirty-day window didn’t apply because we’d specified the architect document,” she said.

”Yes,” he said.

”She was technically correct,” she said.

”Yes,” he said.

Dana held his gaze.

”But she knew the spirit of the agreement,” she said.

”Yes,” he said.

”And she published anyway,” she said.

”Yes,” he said.

Dana held his gaze.

”The Tracker read her frequency this morning,” she said. ”At 6 AM. The release quality.” She held his gaze. ”She wasn’t uncertain. She made a clear decision and executed it.”

”I know,” he said.

”She’s going to say the record required it,” Dana said. ”That the compass can’t control the accurate record of what it is.”

”She’ll be right about that too,” he said.

Dana held his gaze.

”Both things true,” she said.

”Yes,” he said.

”And the compass has to figure out what to do with both things being true,” she said.

”Yes,” he said.

Dana looked at the journal.

”I disagreed with her about timing two days ago,” she said. ”The Tracker read the public response pattern and said the timing was wrong.” She held his gaze. ”She published anyway. Which means she disagreed with my assessment.”

”Yes,” he said.

”The recorder function disagreed with the reader function,” she said.

”Yes,” he said.

”And acted unilaterally,” she said.

”Yes,” he said.

Dana held his gaze.

”How do you feel about it,” she said.

He held her gaze.

He thought about honest answers.

”Frustrated,” he said. ”She had the spirit of the agreement and she worked around it.” He paused. ”And the document is accurate and well-written and the record it creates is genuinely useful.” He held her gaze. ”Both of those are true and I’m sitting with both of them.”

Dana held his gaze.

”The Tracker’s assessment,” she said. ”The public response pattern. Was I wrong about the timing.”

He held her gaze.

”I don’t know yet,” he said. ”Ask me in a week.”

She held his gaze.

”Fair,” she said.

Sera came in at 8 AM.

She’d been at the monitoring station since 6:30 — he’d felt her frequency through the field, the specific elevated quality of both layers running hard on something she hadn’t told him about yet.

She came in and sat at the table without looking at the document on his phone.

He looked at her.

”What did you do,” he said.

She held his gaze.

”The document,” she said. ”Mira’s document. It went out at 6 AM with the compass’s configuration described accurately. Including the healer function. Including specific details about the bond structure.” She held his gaze. ”I read it at 6:05.”

”And,” he said.

She held his gaze.

Both layers running at full intensity.

”At 6:12 I contacted three journalists who had been requesting anchor-adjacent interviews through the Association’s inquiry system,” she said. ”I told them the document was the only public statement the compass would be making and that further inquiries should go through Vale’s diplomatic channel.”

He held her gaze.

”You intercepted the press response,” he said.

”I contained it,” she said.

”Before I knew about it,” he said.

”Yes,” she said.

He held her gaze.

”Why,” he said.

”Because the document was already out and the response was going to be chaotic and someone needed to redirect it before it became unmanageable,” she said. ”And I was awake and I had the contacts and I did it.”

”Without telling me,” he said.

”I’m telling you now,” she said.

He held her gaze.

”Sera,” he said.

”I know,” she said. ”It’s the same pattern. Acting on the instinct before the question.” She held his gaze. ”I’m telling you directly instead of waiting for you to find out.”

”That’s the difference from the routing,” he said.

”Yes,” she said. ”That’s the only difference.” She held his gaze. ”The instinct is the same. The choice after the instinct is different.”

He held her gaze.

He thought about the routing in the first week.

About the long work of Sera becoming honest about what she was.

About the difference between acting on an instinct and concealing it versus acting on an instinct and acknowledging it.

”The journalists,” he said. ”Was the redirection accurate.”

”Yes,” she said. ”Everything I told them was true.”

”Then the action itself was fine,” he said.

”The action was fine,” she said. ”The timing — acting before telling you — is what I’m accounting for.”

He held her gaze.

”You’re accounting for it,” he said.

”Yes,” she said.

”Not apologizing,” he said.

”I’d do it again,” she said. ”But I’d tell you at the same time instead of after.”

He held her gaze.

”Yes,” he said. ”That’s the difference.”

She held his gaze.

Both layers.

”The document,” she said. ”Mira’s document. You’re angry with her.”

”I’m frustrated,” he said.

”It’s the same thing,” she said.

He held her gaze.

”Yes,” he said. ”It’s the same thing.”

She held his gaze.

”You’re not angry with me,” she said.

”No,” he said.

”Because I told you,” she said.

”Yes,” he said.

She held his gaze.

”That’s the difference,” she said.

”Yes,” he said.

She held his gaze.

Both layers.

The synchronized quality.

”Okay,” she said.

Mira arrived at 9 AM.

She came in with the rig and the specific quality of someone who had made a decision and was standing in it without apology.

He looked at her.

She held his gaze.

”The document,” he said.

”Yes,” she said.

”We had an agreement about consultation,” he said.

”We had an agreement about the architect document,” she said. ”This was different.”

”You knew the spirit of the agreement,” he said.

”Yes,” she said. ”And I made a different call.”

He held her gaze.

”Why,” he said.

She held his gaze.

”Because the compass can’t own the accurate record of what it is,” she said. ”The recorder function isn’t subject to the compass’s approval. The record exists independently of what the compass decides to disclose.” She held his gaze. ”Eighty-three million people read it this morning. They needed something accurate. I gave them something accurate.”

”Before the compass agreed to give it,” he said.

”The compass doesn’t get to decide when accurate information exists,” she said. ”It gets to decide what it discloses officially. Those are different things.”

He held her gaze.

He thought about the argument.

About whether she was right.

About the fractal tension between the recorder’s function and the compass’s collective decision-making.

”You’re going to keep doing this,” he said. ”When you decide the record requires it.”

”Yes,” she said.

”Without asking,” he said.

”If asking would produce a delay that changes the record’s accuracy — yes,” she said.

He held her gaze.

He thought about five people who loved dangerously.

About the specific way Mira loved — through documentation, through the record, through the accurate account of what things were.

About the recorder function acting in its own nature regardless of institutional agreement.

He thought: this is what genuine looks like when it has edges.

He thought: the compass isn’t smooth.

He thought: this is part of what it is.

”Dana’s timing assessment,” he said. ”She said the public wasn’t ready.”

”I read Dana’s assessment,” she said. ”I disagreed.”

”She might be right,” he said.

”She might be,” Mira said. ”Ask me in a week.”

He held her gaze.

The echo of what he’d said to Dana twenty minutes ago landing back at him.

He held it.

”The next time you make a call like this,” he said. ”Tell me first. Not for approval. So I know.”

She held his gaze.

”Yes,” she said. ”I can do that.”

”Not because the record requires my approval,” he said.

”No,” she said. ”Because you’re the center and the center should know.”

He held her gaze.

”Yes,” he said.

She held his gaze.

Something moved through her expression.

Not the almost-smile.

Something more serious.

”The document,” she said. ”Was it accurate.”

”Yes,” he said.

”Then the record is correct,” she said.

”Yes,” he said.

”The timing might have been wrong,” she said.

”It might have been,” he said.

”I’ll accept that as a possible error,” she said. ”Not a certain one.”

He held her gaze.

”That’s fair,” he said.

She held his gaze.

”Are we done,” she said.

”Are we done,” he said.

She held his gaze.

”The fracture,” she said. ”When I came in — the compass felt fractured. The field was carrying it.” She held his gaze. ”Are we done with the fracture.”

He held her gaze.

He felt the field.

The five frequencies.

Sera at the monitoring station. Dana at the analysis terminal. Vale on her phone managing the document’s institutional fallout. Lyra in the flexible room. Mira across the table.

All of them running at elevated registers.

All of them genuine.

All of them — the compass’s edges fully present, the darker possessive qualities and the unilateral decisions and the instincts acted on and the fractures.

All of it load-bearing.

”Yes,” he said. ”We’re done with the fracture.”

She held his gaze.

”Good,” she said.

She looked at the rig.

”I’m not releasing anything else today,” she said. ”Without telling you first.”

”Thank you,” he said.

She held his gaze.

”Don’t thank me,” she said.

”Mira,” he said.

”Mm.”

”I’m thanking you,” he said.

She held his gaze.

The almost-smile.

Real.

”Fine,” she said.

At noon Vale came to find him.

She had the institutional fallout report — the diplomatic responses to Mira’s document, the Association’s formal inquiry, the three foreign governments who had contacted the framework’s diplomatic channel within hours of publication.

She set it on the table.

He looked at it.

”How bad,” he said.

”Manageable,” she said. ”The document was accurate. Accurate disclosures are easier to manage than inaccurate ones.” She held his gaze. ”The timing was suboptimal. The content was correct.”

”Dana’s assessment,” he said.

”Was right about the timing,” Vale said. ”Mira’s instinct was right about the content.” She held his gaze. ”Both of them were partially correct.”

”Yes,” he said.

She held his gaze.

”The builder function,” she said. ”The limits document I’m writing.” She paused. ”I need to add a section about the recorder function’s relationship to the compass’s disclosure framework.”

He held her gaze.

”Add it,” he said.

”It’s going to require Mira’s input,” she said.

”I know,” he said.

”She’s going to disagree with half of it,” she said.

”I know,” he said.

”Good,” Vale said.

He looked at her.

”Good,” he said.

She almost smiled.

Took the report.

Left.

He held the field.

The compass.

The seed.

Day fifty-seven.

The dark edges present.

Acknowledged.

Not managed away.

The genuine thing.

Exactly that.
