Mine Alone: A Yandere's Devotion

Day sixty. 9 AM.

She came at 9:14.

Not 2 AM. Not the boundary. The front door of the Yongsan facility, which required knowing the address, which meant she’d found it through the public Guardian Network contact information Vale had filed with the Association on day forty-one.

She’d done her research.

He felt her frequency enter the field’s range at 9:07 — the A+ rank crystalline sharpness, the pull running underneath it, the controlled register doing its work. Moving through the city toward the facility with the specific quality of someone who had made a decision and was executing it before the decision could change.

He texted the compass: She’s coming. Nine minutes.

The facility assembled.

Not formally — nobody arranged themselves. The compass simply moved to where they naturally were when something significant was happening. Sera at the monitoring station. Mira at the table, rig present but dark. Dana at the analysis terminal. Vale standing near the window with the preliminary assessment document. Lyra at the flexible room doorway.

He stood at the center.

And waited.

The knock came at 9:14.

He opened the door.

Sasha Gamilo in daylight was different from Sasha Gamilo at 2 AM.

Not dramatically. The dark red hair, the controlled expression, the A+ rank quality — all the same. But daylight removed the specific cover of the boundary encounter. No membrane between them. No darkness. No city-at-2-AM quiet providing distance.

Just the door.

And her on one side of it.

She looked at him.

”You said come through the front door,” she said.

”Yes,” he said.

”I’m here,” she said.

”Yes,” he said. ”Come in.”

She stepped inside and stopped.

The compass around the room.

She read them the way a combat Hunter read a room — fast, precise, categorizing each frequency in sequence.

Sera. Mira. Dana. Vale. Lyra.

She held Lyra’s gaze last and longest.

”The bridge function,” she said.

”Yes,” Lyra said.

Sasha looked at him.

”You brought all of them,” she said.

”This is where they live,” he said.

She held his gaze.

Something moved through her expression — the controlled register processing a reality that was different from what 847 days of orientation had constructed.

”Okay,” she said.

He gestured toward the table.

She sat.

He sat across from her.

The compass held their positions — not arranged around her threateningly, not retreating. Present. Themselves.

”You know who they are,” he said.

”Yes,” she said. ”I researched.”

”Then you know what the compass is,” he said.

”Yes,” she said.

”And you came anyway,” he said.

”Yes,” she said.

He held her gaze.

”Tell me why,” he said.

She held his gaze.

The controlled register.

Working.

”Because standing outside was worse than whatever this is,” she said.

He held her gaze.

He thought: honest.

He thought: she keeps being honest.

He thought: I don’t know yet what to do with that.

Sera spoke first.

He hadn’t asked her to. She moved from the monitoring station to the table and sat — not between him and Sasha this time, across from Sasha directly.

Sasha looked at her.

”The medical question,” Sera said. ”From last night. You said you were tired.”

”Yes,” Sasha said.

”Did you sleep,” Sera said.

Sasha held her gaze.

”Some,” she said.

”How long has sleep been difficult,” Sera said.

Sasha held her gaze.

”Eight hundred and forty-seven days is a long time to give you an accurate number,” she said.

Sera held her gaze.

”That’s what I thought,” she said.

Sasha looked at him.

”She does this,” Sasha said. ”The concern.”

”Yes,” he said.

”It’s genuine,” Sasha said.

”Yes,” he said.

”I know,” she said. ”That’s what makes it—” she stopped.

”What,” he said.

”Harder than hostility,” she said.

He held her gaze.

He thought: she was prepared for hostility.

He thought: the compass gave her something else.

He thought: genuine things are harder to navigate than performed ones.

Mira.

She hadn’t moved from the table. The rig was in front of her, dark. She held Sasha’s gaze with the direct assessing look.

”Eight hundred and forty-seven days,” Mira said.

”Yes,” Sasha said.

”The archive needs your account,” Mira said. ”Not today. When you’re ready. The accurate record of what the 847 days was — that belongs in the record.”

Sasha held her gaze.

”You want me to tell you my story,” she said.

”I want the accurate record to include your perspective,” Mira said. ”Whatever that is.”

Sasha held her gaze.

”Why,” she said.

”Because you were there before any of us,” Mira said. ”The record should reflect that.”

Sasha held her gaze for a long moment.

”I’ll think about it,” she said.

”That’s enough,” Mira said.

Dana didn’t leave the analysis terminal.

She read from there — the Tracker at full capacity, the pattern recognition building in real time.

Sasha felt it.

She looked at Dana.

”You’re reading me,” she said.

”Yes,” Dana said.

”What do you find,” she said.

Dana held her gaze.

”The same thing the Tracker finds in anyone who has been carrying something alone for a long time,” she said. ”The specific pattern of a person who has made themselves smaller to contain something larger.”

Sasha held her gaze.

”Is that what I look like,” she said.

”Yes,” Dana said.

Sasha looked at her hands.

Then looked up.

”You knew him before too,” she said. ”Eight years.”

”Yes,” Dana said.

”He saw you,” Sasha said.

A pause.

”Eventually,” Dana said.

Sasha held her gaze.

Something moved through her expression.

”Eventually,” she said quietly.

He held that.

He held what Dana had done — given Sasha something real without giving her false hope. Eventually was honest. It wasn’t a promise. It wasn’t a door closing.

He looked at Dana.

She held his gaze.

The eyebrow language: accurate / yes / thank you / don’t.

Vale handed Sasha a document.

Single page. Clean.

Sasha read it.

He watched her read it.

She looked up.

”A classification,” she said.

”Unknown,” Vale said. ”Current status. It will update as we have more information.”

”Unknown,” Sasha said.

”It’s the accurate classification,” Vale said. ”I don’t build frameworks around inaccurate designations.”

Sasha held Vale’s gaze.

”You’re telling me you don’t know what I am,” she said.

”Yes,” Vale said.

”To the compass,” she said.

”Yes,” Vale said.

Sasha held the document.

”I don’t know either,” she said.

Vale held her gaze.

”Then we have the same problem,” Vale said.

Sasha held the document.

Something shifted in her expression — the controlled register encountering something it hadn’t prepared for.

”You’re not afraid of me,” she said.

”No,” Vale said.

”You should be,” Sasha said. ”A+ rank. 847 days. The system generated a new alert category.”

”I know,” Vale said. ”I read the alert.”

”And,” Sasha said.

”And the classification is still unknown,” Vale said. ”Fear doesn’t help with unknown variables. Information does.”

Sasha held the document.

Set it on the table.

”Okay,” she said.

Lyra crossed the room.

Stood near the table.

Sasha looked at her.

They held each other’s gaze.

”Six hundred years,” Sasha said.

”Yes,” Lyra said.

”And you understand it,” Sasha said. ”What I’ve been carrying.”

”Yes,” Lyra said.

”Does it end,” Sasha said.

Lyra held her gaze.

He held very still.

He thought: this is the honest question.

He thought: this is what 847 days of standing outside produces.

He thought: does it end.

Lyra held Sasha’s gaze.

”The pull doesn’t end,” she said. ”It arrives.”

Sasha held her gaze.

”What’s the difference,” she said.

”Ending means it stops,” Lyra said. ”Arriving means it finds what it was pointing at.” She held Sasha’s gaze. ”What you’ve been carrying for 847 days — it hasn’t ended. It hasn’t arrived. It’s still moving.”

Sasha held her gaze.

”Can it arrive,” she said.

Lyra held her gaze.

”I don’t know,” she said. ”That’s honest.”

Sasha held her gaze.

Then looked at him.

He held her gaze.

”I don’t know either,” he said. ”That’s also honest.”

She held his gaze.

847 days.

The controlled register.

The tiredness underneath.

”Okay,” she said. ”Honest.”

He walked her to the door at 10:30.

The compass held their positions.

At the door Sasha stopped.

Looked at him.

”The paperwork,” she said. ”In Mapo district. Fourteen months.”

”Yes,” he said.

”You didn’t see me,” she said.

”No,” he said.

”But you saw the C-ranks,” she said. ”You treated them the same.”

”Yes,” he said.

”That was real,” she said.

”Yes,” he said.

She held his gaze.

”I built 847 days on something real,” she said.

He held her gaze.

”Yes,” he said. ”You did.”

She held his gaze.

Something moved through her expression.

The most unguarded thing he’d seen from her.

”I’m going to come back,” she said.

Not a question.

Not a threat.

A statement.

”I know,” he said.

She held his gaze.

”The system alert,” she said. ”It’s not going away.”

”No,” he said.

”I’m not going away,” she said.

”I know,” he said.

She held his gaze for one more moment.

Then she left.

He watched her go.

Felt her frequency through the field — the pull still running, still oriented, the controlled register holding.

But different from last night.

Direction, Lyra had said.

It has a direction now.

He held the field.

The boundary in the southeast.

The seed in the deep layer.

The compass behind him.

He closed the door.

Turned.

The five frequencies.

All present.

All genuine.

All watching him.

He held the room.

”Arc II is done,” he said.

The compass held his gaze.

”She’s coming back,” Sera said.

”Yes,” he said.

”She said she’s not going away,” Dana said.

”No,” he said.

”The system alert is still active,” Vale said.

”Yes,” he said.

”The archive has everything,” Mira said.

”Yes,” he said.

He looked at Lyra.

She held his gaze.

The stone in her hand.

”The pull hasn’t arrived for her yet,” she said.

”No,” he said.

”It’s still moving,” she said.

”Yes,” he said.

”That’s dangerous,” she said.

”Yes,” he said.

He held the compass.

The field.

The city outside.

Day sixty of the new world.

Arc II closing.

Something else beginning.

He thought about 847 days.

He thought about direction without arrival.

He thought about a woman who had built something real on something genuine and had spent two years trying to stop and couldn’t.

He thought: that’s Arc III.

He thought: that’s what’s coming.

He held the field.

The compass around him.

Real.

Permanent.

Load-bearing.

He thought: whatever comes — we hold.

He looked at the five frequencies.

”Tomorrow,” he said.

”Tomorrow,” they said.

And the city ran.

And the field held.

And somewhere in Seoul — not at the boundary, not outside — Sasha Gamilo walked through the morning with 847 days of orientation and a direction that had finally found somewhere to point.

The question was what she’d do when she got there.

— END OF ARC II —

Arc III — Sasha Gamilo — begins with Chapter 71.
