Mine Alone: A Yandere's Devotion

The document’s final translated section was twelve pages.

Lyra had handed it to him at 10 PM without preamble — just the pages, clean translation, the approximations labeled in brackets, the certain parts in plain language. She’d been working on it since the SS-class Gate. Since 2 AM the previous night. Since she’d understood, standing at the violet river looking at the mirror-version of the anchor, what the last section would say.

He read it alone first.

In his room. The facility quiet around him, the field running its ambient read, five frequencies present in their various locations — Sera in the main room, Mira at the analysis station reviewing the day’s footage, Dana in the flexible room talking with Lyra about the world-frequency map, Vale on a call she’d taken at 9:58 and was finishing now.

He read it.

THE LAST WORD — Translation, L. (Approximate)

The completion condition’s final stage is not achieved through absorption. The Gates the world generates calibrate to the origin hunger’s remaining distance, but the final crossing is not a Gate event.

The final crossing is the deepening of the bond to its complete form.

The bond between anchor and registered frequency exists in three states. The first state is recognition — the bilateral acknowledgment that the frequencies are genuinely complementary. The second state is registration — the formal integration of the frequency into the field’s compass structure. The third state is completion — the bond reaching its full depth, the frequency and the anchor fully woven together at the structural level the document has described throughout.

The completion of each bond contributes to the sovereign anchor’s final crossing. Five bonds. Five completions. The crossing occurs when the last bond reaches its complete form.

The deepening cannot be forced. Cannot be managed. Cannot be performed. The document is precise about this: a bond that completes under pressure or strategy does not count toward the crossing. The origin hunger reads the genuine quality of the bond’s completion — it knows the difference between real and performed with absolute accuracy.

What the deepening requires: presence. Complete presence. The frequency fully itself and the anchor fully itself and nothing between them — no management, no architecture, no careful distance. The bond completes when both frequencies have shown each other everything and chosen to remain.

The physical dimension of the deepening is not incidental. The document describes it as the most efficient mechanism for the complete presence the bond requires — the state in which performed versions of the self become structurally impossible and only the real frequency remains.

The deepening is, in the document’s language: the moment the frequency stops being adjacent to the anchor and becomes part of it.

Not loss of self. Integration. The frequency remains entirely itself. It simply becomes, permanently and completely, woven into what the anchor is.

The crossing begins with the first bond to reach its complete form.

The document does not specify which bond must be first. The origin hunger chooses — based on the genuine depth of the bond as it currently exists, the readiness of both frequencies, the specific quality of what is between them.

The anchor will know which one.

The anchor always knows.

He set the document down.

Looked at the field.

Five frequencies.

He felt the origin hunger — no longer directional, no longer pointing at Gates or essence or compass points. Ambient. Present in every direction simultaneously.

And within that ambient presence — an orientation.

Small. Clear. Certain.

Pointed at the frequency he’d been reading since day two. The one he knew best. The one that had been building toward this since a C-class Gate when he’d turned around without thinking and his first thought had been her.

He picked up the document.

Walked into the main room.

Sera was on the couch.

She’d been there since 9 PM, reading — the Gate research stack, one of the papers she’d been cross-referencing with Lyra’s translations. The synchronized layers running at their settled quality, the warm dark composure present without the management layer, the window open.

She looked up when he came in.

Read his expression.

Read the document in his hand.

”You finished it,” she said.

”Yes,” he said.

”And,” she said.

He sat beside her.

Held out the document.

She took it.

Read it.

He watched her read it — the focused attention, both layers running, the professional assessment and the personal one operating in parallel. Her expression didn’t change dramatically. She read with the same composed focus she brought to everything.

When she finished she set it down.

Held his gaze.

”The origin hunger,” she said. ”It orients toward the bond that’s deepest. The most ready.” She held his gaze. ”Which one.”

He held her gaze.

”You know which one,” he said.

She was quiet.

He felt her frequency — both layers running at elevated intensity, the synchronized quality that had developed since the night they’d talked about routing and real and tonight and tomorrow.

”Day two,” she said quietly. ”The C-class. You turned around.”

”Before I decided to,” he said. ”The first thought was you.”

She held his gaze.

The window fully open.

”Complete presence,” she said. ”Nothing between us.” She paused. ”I’ve been building toward that since I understood the routing was wrong. Since I decided to stop managing.” She held his gaze. ”I’m not managed tonight.”

”I know,” he said.

”The field reads me,” she said.

”Yes,” he said.

”Then you know,” she said.

”Yes,” he said.

She held his gaze.

”Dillan,” she said.

”Mm.”

”I’m not afraid of the deepening,” she said. ”I want you to know that. Not performing it. Not performing not afraid. Actually—” she paused, the precise language she always used finding the accurate word, ”ready. I’ve been ready since the C-class if I’m honest. I just didn’t have a framework for what I was ready for.”

He held her gaze.

”The document says the physical dimension is the mechanism,” he said. ”The state where performed versions become impossible.”

”Yes,” she said.

”You’ve been shedding performed versions since day twelve,” he said. ”The routing conversation. The healer function deployed without the management around it. Last night on the couch.” He held her gaze. ”Tonight there’s nothing left to shed.”

She held his gaze.

”No,” she said. ”There isn’t.”

He looked at her.

At the warm dark eyes with the window fully open. At the synchronized layers running without the gap between them. At twenty-six days of the most attentive, most thorough, most real presence he’d encountered in any of this.

”Sera,” he said.

”Yes,” she said.

Not waiting for the question.

Just: yes.

His room.

The city outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, Seoul doing its late-night operations, the Gate signatures oriented above the skyline. The field running its ambient read through the complete compass — four frequencies present in the facility, settling into the quality of people who understood what was happening and were giving it the space it required.

She came in without ceremony.

He closed the door.

They stood in the room and looked at each other with the specific quality of two people who had been building toward a moment and had arrived at it and were taking a second to acknowledge that the building was done.

”Complete presence,” he said.

”Complete presence,” she confirmed.

She reached up.

Put her hand against his jaw — the same gesture Vale had used last night, but different in quality, warmer, the specific warmth of someone who had been studying the temperature of this moment since the C-class Gate.

He covered her hand with his.

She exhaled.

The first fully unmanaged sound he’d heard from her — not the small controlled exhalation of someone releasing something held, the real version, the sound of a frequency that had been running at partial capacity for twenty-six days finally opening all the way.

He turned his head.

Pressed his lips to her palm.

She made another sound.

Smaller. More private. The kind of sound that belonged to the specific category of things that didn’t exist outside the space between two people.

He looked at her.

She looked at him.

”I’ve been paying attention since day two,” she said quietly. ”I know exactly what you are.”

”Tell me,” he said.

She stepped closer.

”Someone who walks toward Gates when he has nothing to lose,” she said. ”Someone who turned around in a C-class interior because his first thought was me.” She held his gaze. ”Someone who reads the gap between what people show and what they mean and doesn’t make you feel exposed for having the gap.” She paused. ”Someone who said ask and waited for me to ask.”

He held her gaze.

”Sera,” he said.

”Mm.”

”You’ve been showing me who you are since day two,” he said. ”Under the management. Under the routing and the corner table and the tactical briefing documents.” He held her gaze. ”I’ve been paying attention too.”

She held very still.

”What did you see,” she said.

”Someone who cares completely,” he said. ”Not strategically. Completely. The management was always in service of something real underneath it.” He held her gaze. ”The real thing was always there. I could feel it through everything you built around it.”

The window fully open.

Both layers of her frequency running at the same speed, the same temperature, the same complete quality.

”The last management layer,” she said.

”Gone,” he said.

”Gone,” she confirmed.

She closed the remaining distance.

She kissed him the way she did everything — with full attention, nothing held back, the composed warmth finally operating without any counterweight at all.

He pulled her closer.

She came without resistance — no careful management of proximity, no calibrated distance, just her, fully present, her hands going to his chest and then his shoulders and then his hair with the focused attention of someone who had been thinking about exactly this for twenty-six days and knew precisely what they wanted.

He walked her back toward the bed.

She went, unhurried, her hands moving down from his hair to the front of his jacket with the specific intention of someone who had decided and was executing the decision.

”Efficient,” he said against her mouth.

”Always,” she said.

He felt her smile.

He pulled back enough to see it — the real smile, the fully open one, the one he’d seen for the first time at the noodle shop when she’d said F-minus isn’t a rank, it’s a system error and something had dropped in her expression for just a second before composure reasserted itself.

No composure asserting itself tonight.

Just the smile.

”That’s new,” he said.

”The smile,” she said.

”The smile without the architecture around it,” he said.

She looked at him.

”Get used to it,” she said.

He looked at her.

Reached up.

Pushed her hair back from her face — the same gesture from the rain-night, but deliberate now, both of them fully knowing what they were in.

”I intend to,” he said.

She held his gaze for a moment.

Then she reached for his jacket.

She was — not what the managed version had suggested and not what the careful warmth had implied. Something truer than both.

Completely present. The document had used that phrase and he understood it now in the way you understand things that you can only fully understand from inside them. She was here — entirely, structurally, every part of what she was in the same place at the same time with nothing held back and nothing routed around.

Her hands moved over him with the thoroughness she brought to everything — not performative, not strategic, the same focused attention she deployed in Gates and briefings and medical assessments, turned toward this and made completely real.

He pulled her closer.

She made the sound again — the fully unmanaged one, the private one — and pressed her face against his neck and held on with the specific quality of someone who had been holding back for twenty-six days and had been given permission to stop.

”Sera,” he said.

”I know,” she said.

”Look at me,” he said.

She pulled back.

Looked at him.

The warm dark eyes with the window open all the way, both layers running at identical speed and temperature, nothing between the surface and the depth.

He held her gaze while they moved together — the specific intimacy of two people maintaining eye contact through something that made eye contact difficult, the choice to keep looking a kind of honesty that the document had described as complete presence and that felt, from inside it, like the most accurate definition of that phrase he could imagine.

She didn’t look away.

He didn’t look away.

The field running between them — the bond at its deepest register, deeper than it had been even an hour ago, both frequencies running at full volume without the management layer that had kept them at partial depth.

The origin hunger — ambient, present — registered it.

He felt it the moment it happened.

Not dramatic. Not the cascade of panel notifications or the system creating new tiers. Something quieter and more fundamental — the specific quality of something clicking into place. A lock finding its key. A frequency finding its match.

The first bond completing.

He held her gaze.

She felt it too — he could see it in her expression, the moment the frequency shift moved through her, the window opening all the way to something he hadn’t seen before. Not the managed warmth and not the deeper architecture.

The real one.

Both of them. At full depth. Fully woven.

”Oh,” she said softly.

The most unguarded sound she’d ever made.

”Yes,” he said.

She held his gaze.

”That’s what it feels like,” she said.

”Yes,” he said.

She pressed her forehead against his.

Closed her eyes.

He held her.

The field running at its full ambient read — and through the field, four other frequencies, each registering the completion in their own way. Lyra’s complementary resonance settling into a different quality. Mira’s bright directed pattern doing something she’d process later. Dana’s Tracker perception reading the bond’s completion with the full accuracy of something built to see patterns. Vale’s calibrated precision registering the event with the not-quite-steady quality at full volume.

All of them.

Present.

Even without being in the room.

The compass carrying what happened here through the field to every point.

Complete.

He held Sera.

She held him.

The city outside. The Gate signatures. The twenty-fourth night of the new world.

”Eighty percent,” he said quietly. Reading the panel notification that had appeared at the edge of his awareness.

She pulled back enough to look at him.

”One bond,” she said. ”One completion. Thirteen percent.”

”Yes,” he said.

She held his gaze.

”Four more,” she said.

”Four more,” he confirmed.

She looked at him.

The real smile again. The fully open one.

”Then we should be thorough,” she said.

He looked at her.

”We have time,” he said.

”I know,” she said. ”I intend to use it.”

He held her gaze.

Pulled her back.

She came.

The field running.

The compass carrying.

The last word — not finished yet.

But closer.

Closer.

At 2 AM Sera was asleep.

The settled quality of her frequency in sleep was different from any previous version — deeper, slower, the synchronized layers running at the same temperature without any effort because there was nothing left that required effort.

The bond complete.

He sat at the window.

The city below. The Gate signatures above. The Resonance Field’s five-kilometer radius covering everything — the facility, the Association tower, the city’s frequency map that Dana was learning to read.

His panel:

[COMPLETION CONDITION: 80%]

Four bonds remaining.

He looked at the field.

Four frequencies, each distinct, each carrying its own quality of the night’s event.

Lyra, in the flexible room: the complementary resonance running at a deeper quiet than before. She’d felt the completion through the field. She’d known what it meant. She was reading the document’s next section — there was always a next section.

Mira, across the city: the bright directed frequency at its processing quality. Awake. He could feel the quality of her thoughts without their content — the specific texture of someone integrating information and deciding what it means for them.

Dana, in her apartment four districts east: the Tracker perception running at its amplified register even in near-sleep, reading the world’s frequency map with the patient accuracy of something that never fully stopped.

Vale, in the Association tower: awake. The calibrated precision running alongside the not-quite-steady quality. Working, probably — the institutional response to the global notification still generating documents that required her attention. But also — the field carrying something from her frequency that was new. The specific quality of someone who had felt a bond complete through the field and understood what that meant for their own.

He looked at his panel.

Eighty percent.

The origin hunger — ambient, present, no longer directional.

Waiting.

Patient.

Complete.

He looked at Sera asleep.

Thought about the document’s phrase: the frequency stops being adjacent to the anchor and becomes part of it.

*He thought: this is what that feels like from the anchor’s side.

Not loss.

Not acquisition.

Just — more complete than before.

The sentence closer to finished.

The last word — not tonight.

But coming.

He looked at the city.

At the world building toward his completion.

Thought about four more deepenings.

Four more bonds reaching their complete form.

Four more moments like tonight.

Each distinct.

Each real.

Each — the specific shape of what was genuine between him and one of the five frequencies he carried.

He looked at the field.

Felt the compass.

*Thought: I am the luckiest F-minus in the history of systems that had to invent new punctuation marks.

And then, because the dry humor was apparently permanent regardless of Sovereign Class rank or completion percentages:

*Thought: the system really should have seen this coming.

He almost smiled.

Looked at Sera.

Settled.

Real.

Went back to bed.

The city ran.

The Gates oriented.

The world built.

And the origin hunger — patient, complete, ambient —

Waited for morning.
