Death Game: Starting as a Trickster, Pretending to Be a God

Chapter 239: A Decisive Lie, and the Mysterious Communicator

”S rank? Your potential is S rank?”

Wang Yuyang and Li Nian simultaneously turned to look at Lin Yu, their faces showing identical expressions of disbelief.

Though Li Nian had previously stolen the Psychological Societyʼs roster and confirmed that Xia Yueʼs rating should be above A, she had only thought Xia Yue would be A or A+ level.

Who could have imagined it would be S rank!

Even Lin Yu himself was shocked.

”What in the world? Xia Yueʼs potential is S rank?”

So the monster he encountered in his first dungeon was actually viewed this highly by the Psychological Society?

Wait, considering his own rating seemed to be no lower, Lin Yu still felt this organizationʼs rating standards had some flaws.

Though countless thoughts raced through his mind, he remained calm on the surface.

”Itʼs actually that high? Though I donʼt really trust your organizationʼs standards... After all, you just said I ʼfailed to become a playerʼ—this shows your organizationʼs information is incorrect.”
”Iʼm perfectly fine appearing here as a player.”

”And this is clearly inside a Death Game dungeon.”

Lin Yu spoke calmly.

Pan Yuqiang looked at Lin Yu, falling into thought.

”Oh dear, thatʼs right... Could it be that Fluoxetineʼs report was wrong?”

”But she clearly confirmed your death—even the information from Orderʼs side says the same.”

Lin Yu sighed.

”Well, I can proudly say that I actually managed to deceive two powerful organizations all by myself.”

By now, Lin Yu was gradually realizing that although encountering Wang Yuyang and Pan Yuqiang here was unexpected...

These two peopleʼs identities—one being a Free Alliance member, the other a Psychological Society member!

While this posed a tremendous challenge to his use of the ”Xia Yue” identity for activities, it was also an opportunity.

With appropriate acting, the ”setup” he recently created regarding the ”Zhu Ming” and ”Xia Yue” identities could become even more credible within this dungeon.

It might even completely deceive Fluoxetine herself and the entire Death Game player community.

The key lay with these two people before him.

So, Lin Yu appropriately displayed some anger.

”But honestly, I didnʼt have to go that far... I wonʼt criticize how your Psychological Society enthusiastically finds promising ordinary people, kills them, and tries to pull them into the Death Game, since thatʼs your operational purpose,” his tone remained gentle but now carried some hidden sharpness, ”but please, Miss Citalopram, bring back some reform suggestions to your organization... Before executing such operations, could you please confirm whether Iʼve already become a player?”

Lin Yu adopted a somewhat headache-inducing appearance, speaking with a tone half helpless, half resentful: ”Can you understand what it felt like being suddenly attacked by a Psychological Society Third Tier expert that day... Though faking death to deceive that Fluoxetine might seem something to be proud of from your perspective, it was just a desperate move I made to survive at the time.”

”I consumed at least three precious items, and even made my family and friends believe it... Now I canʼt return home, my mother and sister think Iʼm really dead—my sister is about to take her high school entrance exams, this is a huge blow to her, what if she fails?”

”And now I find out... it was all a misunderstanding, damn it, I was unlucky enough to enter this game two months ago, who knew something even worse would happen a month ago—death is something ordinary people experience only once in their lifetime, yet Iʼve already ʼdiedʼ twice!”

Lin Yuʼs tone grew increasingly agitated.

He displayed an appropriate level of ”loss of control” that matched Xia Yueʼs personality.

The emotional intensity was enough to make Pan Yuqiang and the others present believe her words and become immersed in her not entirely credible yet quite reasonable logic.

Of course, Lin Yu knew very well.

Whether Wang Yuyang, Pan Yuqiang, or Li Nian—none were ordinary characters.

Even if momentarily affected by emotions...

They would likely realize something was off afterward.

So, to make Xia Yueʼs identity an ”established fact,” Lin Yu didnʼt hesitate to use the Teeth of Prophecy once.

He chose to make all three believe his final statement—”death is something ordinary people experience only once in their lifetime, yet Iʼve already died twice.”

For Lin Yu... whether referring to himself or Xia Yue, this happened to be an accurate, undeniable truth.

Of course, for ”Xia Yue,” she could be considered to have died three times—depending on how you count.

But absolutely no one in the world besides Lin Yu could know what truth this statement actually represented.

Thus, the unconditional belief brought by the Teeth of Prophecy was enough to make the four players present have no remaining doubts about Lin Yuʼs carefully crafted background for ”Xia Yue,” completely believing his meticulously woven story.

And among these four players present, there were two Free Alliance members and one Psychological Society member.

They all had sufficient influence to affect how other members of their organizations judged the ”Zhu Ming” identity.

As for the remaining Chen Zhuo, though a newcomer, upon careful thought, he had after all experienced the first round with him, making him someone who might actually suspect Xia Yueʼs identity.

So, even though after this use, the Teeth of Prophecy had only one use remaining, Lin Yu felt...

It was worth it.

For a moment, the remaining four players looked at Lin Yu with his slightly reddened eyes and, under that completely logical ”belief,” began comforting her.

”Itʼs okay, what matters is youʼre still alive... This really was poorly handled by the Psychological Society.”

Wang Yuyang spoke awkwardly—normally this had nothing to do with him, but this Free Alliance member seemed to have a strange sense of responsibility.

It seemed because his girlfriend Pan Yuqiang was from the Psychological Society, he felt some sense of belonging toward them too.

As for Pan Yuqiang, she was even more apologetic: ”Iʼll definitely report this accurately when I return... Though Iʼm only B rank, I do have some voice within the organization.”

Li Nian scratched her head, changing the subject from this heavy topic: ”Hey, Zhu Ming... Never thought you had this side to you.”

”But after joining the Free Alliance, if we encounter Fluoxetine again, I can help you take her down, damn it—that woman really isnʼt much good!”

At that moment, Pang Kedoʼs voice interrupted the somewhat awkward atmosphere among the players.

”Hey everyone, I found something good.”

Earlier when they entered carriage D-3 and saw Li Nian seemingly catching up with acquaintances, Pang Kedo tactfully went to examine the bodies in the carriage.

And now, Pang Kedo seemed to have found some useful items that even Pan Yuqiang had missed.

He waved a black pager-like device in front of everyone.

”This is a communicator exclusively for Truth Corporation supervisors, department heads, and directors—looks like thereʼs someone with very high privileges on this Despair Train.”
