Chapter 216: Corpse, Plan, and Loopholes

With Hannahʼs assistance, Lin Yu easily infiltrated the public security bureau.

Before entering the bureau, Lin Yu had already investigated and determined that all temporarily stored corpses were uniformly kept in the underground cold storage.

The location of the underground cold storage wasnʼt difficult to find either—just a glance at the map next to the fire escape in the main lobby revealed its position.

Although surveillance cameras covered every corridor, these cameras naturally couldnʼt capture Hannahʼs camouflage.

Soon, Lin Yu and Hannah stood before the cold storageʼs large door.

Facing the tightly closed and locked cold storage door, Lin Yu had a solution.

He checked left and right to ensure no one was around, then instructed Hannah.

”Your strength should be enough to open this door, right?”

”Ribbit, of course!”

Hannah said, instantly understanding Lin Yuʼs intention.
”Does Director wish for me to slip inside and open the door?”

Lin Yu nodded.

”Yes, if you can open the door, that would be best!”

After all, none of the items he possessed could silently open such a large door.

If Hannah couldnʼt manage it, Lin Yu would have to use his precious ”Tongue of Deceit.”

Both the ”Teeth of Prophecy” and ”Tongue of Deceit” had only two uses remaining.

His previous two uses had given Lin Yu a more direct understanding of these itemsʼ powerful capabilities.

Unless the benefits were substantial or it was absolutely critical, Lin Yu didnʼt plan to use them!

If Hannah could handle it, naturally he should let her try first!

”Ribbit, Director, please stand close to the door!”

Hannah said as she positioned herself on Lin Yuʼs head, then sprayed out [Illusory Ink].

After all, [Concealment Camouflage] only worked when Hannah was present. Since she needed to leave, she had to switch to another method to disguise Lin Yu.

Then, somewhat cool ink poured over Lin Yuʼs head, transforming into an appearance identical to the door.

”Ribbit, Director, when Illusory Ink transforms into environmental features, I canʼt control it... so please donʼt move! Any movement will give it away!”

”Iʼll go try to open the door now!”

Hannah said as she jumped from Lin Yuʼs shoulder onto the wall, slowly crawling up to the ceiling.

Then, the small octopus utilized her advantage as a mollusk, squeezing through the air conditioning vent on the ceiling like flowing water.

Lin Yu heard Hannahʼs cheerful voice in his mind.

”Ribbit! Iʼm moving forward now, Director! It should take about ten-plus minutes!”

”Mm, do your best.”

Lin Yu responded mentally.

Hannah was quite clever—her time estimate shouldnʼt be wrong.

Lin Yu stood motionless at the door, like a statue.

Although maintaining complete stillness for over ten minutes wasnʼt easy, Lin Yu treated it as if he were acting as a tree.

Besides, this was also rare rest time.

Soon, ten minutes passed in a flash.

”Ribbit, Iʼm inside, Director!”

Hannah said again, and then Lin Yu heard faint sounds coming from the large door behind him.

”Plop.”

Probably Hannah landing on the door.

Then after another moment, the lock made a ”click” unlocking sound.

The door slowly opened a small gap.

Lin Yu quickly slipped inside, then gently closed the cold storage door behind him.

A wave of chilly cold air washed over him, making Lin Yu sigh in relief.

”Whew, weʼre in!”

Hannah jumped back onto his shoulder as the ink dissipated into the air.

The cold storage for storing remains had no surveillance, and normally no one would come here, so after entering, Lin Yu had relatively ample time.

Due to the relatively good public security situation currently, most cold storage cabinets werenʼt in use.

Following the labels on the few cabinets that were in use, Lin Yu quickly found the one containing Xia Yueʼs body.

Then, Lin Yu opened the cabinet door, pulled open the body bag, and saw the bluish-white corpse with slight frost forming on the skin surface.

There was a deep wound on the corpseʼs neck.

Lin Yu could easily imagine how Fluoxetine had struck with an axe when she was caught completely off guard.

Even with the gruesome wound, even with the discolored skin, when Lin Yu looked at that pretty and well-behaved face, he still felt like the girl was merely sleeping.

This face possessed remarkable affinity.

Hannah looked at the corpse before her, deep in thought.

”Director, how do you plan to take this out?”

”If we bring her along, my Concealment Camouflage duration will probably only last about ten minutes...”

Lin Yu shook his head.

”No, weʼre not taking her away.”

After saying this, Lin Yu thought for a moment, as if something had occurred to him.

He gently broke off one of Xia Yueʼs fingers and kept it.

”Canʼt let your mother have no ashes to worship.”

Then...

Lin Yu sighed as he placed the remainder on the floor.

He took out a black torch from his chest and ignited the entire corpse.

Pale flames rose up, instantly consuming the whole body.

In just a few short minutes, Xia Yueʼs corpse disappeared without a trace.

Afterward, Lin Yu gently pushed the cabinet door closed.

After cleaning up all possible traces, he left the Beiqiao District Public Security Bureau again with Hannah.

After eating a bowl of noodles at a restaurant across the street, Lin Yu rode his bicycle away from the area.

Resting on Lin Yuʼs shoulder, the little octopus Hannah, her color slightly darkened from exhaustion, spoke up.

”Ribbit, Director... what exactly are you planning?”

”Iʼm going to appropriate her identity.”

Lin Yu said calmly.

”But even if her corpse disappears, sheʼs still confirmed dead...”

Hannah said, puzzled.

Lin Yu smiled and explained: ”Ahaha, those ʼPlayersʼ might not necessarily think that way.”

”In that report, 『Order』 confirmed Xia Yue died by Fluoxetineʼs hand because of the Psychological Societyʼs list and Fluoxetineʼs movement patterns.”

”I suspect 『Order』 most likely never verified what exactly happened to Xia Yueʼs corpse—even Fluoxetine himself certainly didnʼt confirm it.”

”But if new information emerges... that the original ʼcorpseʼ disappeared without a trace, how would these organizations react?”

”There isnʼt much time left before Xia Yueʼs remainsʼ ʼcremation scheduleʼ.”

”Probably 『Order』 and 『Night Watchmen』 would try to cover this up while making two reasonable assumptions.”

”The first is that someone stole Xia Yueʼs corpse.”

”The second would be...”

”They would speculate that perhaps Xia Yue never actually died in the first place!”

”Especially when they confirm that Xia Yue herself has appeared again!”

Lin Yu said, exhaling a breath.

”Of course, if it were just this, this plan would still have two final loopholes.”

”However... one of these two loopholes has already been filled by me.”
