Reborn As An Interstellar Giant Mosquito

Chapter 353: Chapter 38 Family, the Bereavement...【Seeking for Regular Subscription】_1

The family naturally got quite a scare the first time they laid eyes on such an enormous cocoon, which seemed like a living creature!

However, being under pressure for survival and having no other place to go, they chose to settle down in the corner of the workshop during the harsh winter days!

The family lived on the food they had brought with them, supplemented by some edible wild plants they found nearby, enough to scrape by day by day.

Over time, their initial fear and concern for the huge cocoon next to them turned into familiarity.

On the third day after Jia Yan woke up, he heard the mother from the family outside say, ”This thing has been here for a while, right? There’s quite a bit of dust on it. I’ll help clean it up.”

”Okay, let’s clean the Little Cocoon!” The child, about seven or eight years old, had for some reason named the cocoon Jia Yan had become ’Little Cocoon’.

Not long after, Jia Yan felt the thick substance on his body being washed with water!

”This family is nice indeed, but I really don’t need them to clean me,” Jia Yan found the situation amusingly absurd.

However, at this time, as he hid within the massive cocoon, listening to the daily struggles of the family of three about food and daily needs, inexplicably, Jia Yan’s mood gradually settled down...

”Little Cocoon, have you ever seen Rebar Superman? That Superman is just like my dad, he becomes Superman with a piece of rebar in his hand. He’s as amazing as my dad!”

”Hey honey, did you notice, Little Cocoon seems to be constantly releasing heat, so it’s always warm near the workshop. What exactly is Little Cocoon? I hope it’s not some Monster.”

”Ha ha, who cares if it’s a Monster. It hasn’t hurt us, and if it can keep this up, it will help us get through to spring. Then we can head to Shanghai City together. I heard there are no Metal Monsters there anymore! No matter what, I will protect you two and get you to Shanghai... I will! Unless... I die!”

Jia Yan listened to the family’s conversations outside every day. In their refugee life, he perceived both the bitterness and sweetness.

He felt like he had become part of this family, worrying about life with them, and sharing the rare warmth of family in wartime.

During this period, his former days of loneliness from constant killing seemed to have eased slightly.

On the 35th day of mutation, Jia Yan found himself able to use Brainwave Power!

And so, something odd started happening in the family’s life!

Things that they thought were difficult suddenly got done unnoticed!

”Eh!? I just said I was going to fetch water from the well outside, and now there’s a full bucket! There have been a lot of oddities happening lately.” The man’s surprised voice echoed.

Inside the massive cocoon, Jia Yan gently smiled.

The family didn’t know what was really happening in the factory, feeling weird yet also worried.

But there was nowhere else to go, and these oddities seemed to bring no harm. They even seemed to be beneficial! So, helplessly, they gradually got accustomed to these occurrences!

Humans are adaptable creatures. Within a week’s time, even when they occasionally saw strange scenes caused by Jia Yan’s use of Brainwave Power, they were only startled before returning to calm!

For instance, fetching water in the morning!

Jia Yan felt that fetching water in the cold winter mornings was a bit uncomfortable, so he filled the mechanical groove that the family used as a temporary water basin with his Brainwave Power every morning.

The second day he did this, he was suddenly spotted by the mother in the family!

She screamed at that time, as anyone would upon seeing their water bucket flying!

But it only took them about three days to get completely used to this sight.

Jia Yan gradually began to have more interactions with this family.

”Little Cocoon! It must be you helping us... Good boy, good boy!” Finally, Jia Yan could hear a small boy’s voice from the outside of the cocoon he had transformed into.

It seemed as if the boy was stroking the cocoon that Jia Yan had become.

Jia Yan was a bit speechless, he felt like he was being treated as a pet!

But this feeling was a completely new experience, and aside from feeling a little bit at a loss for words, Jia Yan didn’t really object to it in his heart.

After all, he is just a child.

However, this affectionate feeling suddenly underwent a huge change on the 40th day of Jia Yan’s ongoing and gradual transformation.

On that day, the father of the family, since going out to find wild vegetables, never returned!

The next day, the child’s mother went out and searched for him for a long time. Only after hearing the child’s crying did she return to their temporary home.

She didn’t seem too upset. She just told the child that his father had gone to visit a relative in Shanghai City and would certainly come back to take them after a while.

However, in the night, Jia Yan heard the mother’s cry.

He silently released his Brainwave Power. He saw that the mother was holding a blood-stained shirt. Through his weak ’Eye’ ability of Brainwave Power, he barely recognized it. It belonged to the father!

What had happened to him didn’t need to be guessed.

Jia Yan could even feel that the child, curled up in a corner sleeping, was also sobbing when the mother was crying outside the door at midnight!

This was a smart child who knew what had happened!

Jia Yan listened to him hiding under the ragged quilt, mumbling in a low voice: ”I am a man! I am Rebar Superman! I must protect mom!”

Jia Yan looked at this remaining mother and son, with a heavy heart.

But he couldn’t do anything. At this stage, he was a helpless person. After all, he was undergoing a transformation process and couldn’t move!

Two days later, when the mother went out again, she also returned to the workshop stained with blood.

It was a penetrating wound caused by a Metal Monster. Her arm was damaged by a Metal Monster from somewhere, and one of her arms was seriously injured.

She was seriously injured, but she kept trying for the sake of her son.

However, due to not receiving effective aid, the wound became infected.

The second day after being seriously wounded, the mother developed a high fever.

Afterward, the responsibility of taking care of the family fell on the shoulders of the child who was less than ten years old!

Crying for a whole day and by the third day when the mother was seriously wounded, this little man shouldered up the responsibility of a man!

”I am a man! I am the son of Rebar Superman!” The little man wiped away the tears from the corners of his eyes!

He will protect his mother!

Like an adult, he started fetching water and finding wild vegetables outside early in the morning.

This child somehow learned to recognize wild vegetables. Although the harvest was not much, he always fed his mother first, and then ate himself.

Watching this scene, even though Jia Yan knew that such scenes could be found everywhere in the world now, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of heartache in his heart.

Inside the workshop, he began to take more care of the little boy, but he was unable to extend his Brainwave Power outside. So for the child who went out alone, he could only worry and do nothing else.

By the 47th day of his transformation...

The child’s mother was already extremely weak, beyond help.

That day, the little boy went out and didn’t come back for a long time.

Jia Yan had a sense of unease.

He released his Brainwave Power to the limit, but he still couldn’t see the little boy.

Just as the sun was about to set, a small figure that definitely resembled a man, dragging his feet slowly, walked into the workshop... (To be continued.
