Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 4180  Investigating The City

Fairy Runalise finally hovered at the edge of the city, concealed by the thick emerald canopy of a forest. She didnʼt expect to see a nutritious land in this vast void dust space. Beyond the trees, the city walls could be seen. It was quite tall, but regardless, it seemed to be a work in progress as there were cultivators moving the construction materials with their martial prowess or soul force.

She flew past the walls without being questioned.

The workers merely glanced at her before nodding smilingly, making her feel strange.

When she looked further, she saw the streets were paved with stones and filled with buildings left and right, creating numerous pathways just like a city would have. The air was fragrant and filled with dense heaven and earth energy.

She could tell multiple sources of Transcendent Crystal Cores were implanted in every sector since even the outer region seemed to have such dense energy.

People were walking to and fro, minding their own business as though nothing was amiss.

”A flourishing city in this dark place…?”

Fairy Runalise frowned. Her robes fluttered in the wind before she headed towards the core region of the city.

As she did so, her heart felt strange.

The city was alive. Merchants called out to passersby, selling their wares. Children laughed as they chased each other through the market, their joy seemingly untainted by the fear they should have.

She found herself in the city square and could see an elderly man recite tales beneath a flowering tree. He had an audience of all ages, and people called him Master Dahu when they asked him questions.

Fairy Runalise could only look around as she couldnʼt hide her astonishment. She wondered if she was caught up in some kind of illusion and concentrated her soul force.

ʼBreak!~ʼ

She inwardly shouted and tried to dispel the illusion, but her aura bubbled, causing the other people to be frightened out of their wits as they sensed her extraordinary power.

”Woah, lady.” Master Dahu stood up and stopped her, ”Youʼre quite strong. Are you from the Divine Emperor of Deathʼs mansion or the other mansions? If so, my apologies, but you still couldnʼt be so frivolous with your usage of cultivation. Even the emperorʼs children canʼt do as they please in this city. They even got punished twice by their mothers for misbehaving with some stores.”

”Woah, lady.” Master Dahu stood up and stopped her, ”Youʼre quite strong. Are you from the Divine Emperor of Deathʼs mansion or the other mansions? They even got punished twice by their mothers for misbehaving with some stores.”

”My apologies. I didnʼt mean to be rude…” Fairy Runaliseʼs expression softened.

She saw that the person in front of her was a Level Four Immortal King. However, she was still doubtful as she looked around.

”What do you mean the emperorʼs children were punished?”

”Aiya, you donʼt know? That was a famous incident. A few months ago, those children would come here to play, but it seems like they are too busy right now as they have begun their cultivation. Nonetheless, when they were here, they led the children around and played with them occasionally. One day, they were playing hide and seek, but as Eterna, the first daughter of the Divine Emperor of Death, was playing, she frivolously ate some Lassio, a spirit fruit from one vendor, and later denied she didnʼt do it when asked but after being confronted by her mother, Fairy Shirley, she confessed and was punished on the spot with spanking and the vendor was compensated a hundred times.”

”Now everyone wants to be harassed by Eterna day and night. Hahaha!”

”Hahaha!” The crowd that was with him also laughed.

”Eterna is so cute. I miss her.”

”True, it was much more cheerful when she was here and roaming the streets. You shouldʼve seen it. She beat elder Meiwissʼ kid easily even though they were of the same age and made him dance around for being a bully. His cries could be heard throughout heaven and earth when he got his butt kicked.”

”Ahahaha!~” Boisterous laughter erupted throughout the area. Even the passersby laughed.

”Haha, how could she not be strong? Sheʼs the Divine Emperor of Deathʼs first daughter.”

The crowd was full of joy and even seemingly prideful when talking about Eterna.

Fairy Runalise couldnʼt help but frown as she took in everyoneʼs reaction. No one seemed to be filled with fear, much less despair. They seemed to be livelier than an ordinary cultivator, which again made her more suspicious.

It was as though they were sheep fattened up before a sacrifice.

”As for the other incident-”

”Thatʼs enough.”

Fairy Runalise raised her hand and stopped Master Dahu from speaking more.

”A tyrant does not feed his people freely. Speak, what is truly happening here?”

”Huh?” Master Dahu seemed genuinely confused.

Who was she calling tyrant? The Divine Emperor of Death? His wives? The City Lord? One of the officials who was overseeing the administration?

He couldnʼt remember any, making him frown before he opened his mouth.

”Who is this tyrant you speak of?”

”The Divine Emperor of Death, of course.” Fairy Runalise smirked with confidence.

Master Dahu looked at her with some care, ”Fairy, I donʼt know who you are, but you must have hit your head somewhere.”

”You-”

Master Dahu continued, ”The Divine Emperor of Death has never visited this city except once, and his decree was to live freely and righteously as our hearts lead. And he definitely doesnʼt act like he owns this city and us. Nobody does, not even the City Lord. Of course, if the Divine Emperor of Death wants to evict us, Iʼm sure he could do it, but why would such a powerful being want to do it or have anything to do with us?”

He began to fly and pointed his hands in different directions.

”You see that giant golden palace over there and the numerous shining palaces? That was built by Fairy Bylai, and she freely gave it away for the City Lord to redistribute. Do you see the flourishing economy and peaceful order here? That could be done due to Fairy Isabellaʼs might. Do you see nearly no altercations in the city? That is also due to the establishment of rules and regulations from Fairy Mingzhi. They occasionally only give out, spread wealth and do not take anything. Even the Immortal Crystals and the greenery you see around are all thanks to them helping us. Any problem we have with trade and communication is taken care of by Fairy Natalya and Fairy Yilla.”

”Theyʼre completely competent, and they also deal with any tyrant who wants to rise up and start controlling us. Because of them, we can live freely, not to mention live with dignity.”

He sighed, smiling brightly as he shook his head, ”I have lived for over a hundred thousand years, but this is my first time not having to deal with a tyrant blocking every street and waiting to harass and steal from us. This city is wonderful. Of course, only a few years have passed, so I cannot tell how this city will transform, but the beginning is nearly perfect. We have all the resources we need to grow and cultivate. Thereʼs nothing holding us back.”

”…”

Fairy Runaliseʼs frown only grew as she heard more. She couldnʼt help but think this man was brainwashed, so she quickly thanked him and left, doing her own investigation.
