Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 1019: Chapter 424: Fire Seed of True Divinity (3)

Her body was connected to various tubes, which extended to the surrounding walls, transmitting information to the control panel on the ground.

In Wu Chang’s eyes, the underground space was like a massive blood well, with a blood pool permeating the entire secret research facility, as its bloodstains surged up from below.

The girl trapped underground was the experimental subject for hatching Hel Divinity, and the core of the resentment.

The moment he saw Hel, his consciousness was pulled into the depths of the blood well. His vision blurred, and he was drawn into the resentment.

When his vision cleared, he found himself immersed in the resentment from a first-person perspective.

The resentment within the secret research facility was formed by the collective consciousness, with Hel as its core, so he entered Hel’s perspective.

When he entered the resentment, Hel was still a little girl, standing only one meter eight tall.

For the Surface People, whose average height exceeded three meters in adulthood, one meter eight was indeed still a little girl.

At that time, the Outer World still had colors.

Severe pollution had only produced massive toxins and radiation, but hadn’t completely deprived the surface of vitality.

Many plants and insects had adapted to this harsh environment and survived.

In the apocalyptic environment, the physique of all Survivors had changed. Those dangerous mutated insects, growing up to one or two meters, and even four or five meters, became the main food for the Surface People.

Hel, whom Wu Chang was possessing, was the daughter of the Surface People’s leader, and could receive ample food supplies.

Possessing Hel, Wu Chang could taste the flavor of the mutated insects.

Although the insects didn’t look appealing, the meat separated from them resembled small tumors. However, after processing, it could remove ninety percent of the stench. Cooked, it became an exotic food with a grassy aroma, slightly bitter taste, bursting with juice, crispy on the outside, tender on the inside.

To be specific, it was similar to having a stink bug fly into your mouth while yawning outdoors in autumn and chewing it up. It probably tasted like that.

Disgusting, but better than Wu Chang had imagined.

Hel’s tribe was centered around Collette City, a large tribe gathering all the Surface People in the surrounding area, exceeding ten thousand in number.

Apart from hunting and raising larvae, they also ambushed the surrounding Underground People.

If they were outnumbered, they would kill everyone and take the resources.

If they were evenly matched, they would attempt to trade with the Underground People, exchanging parts found on the surface for clean water and food, or other items.

If they were evenly matched, they would flee.

It sounded brutal, but this was the survival rule on the surface.

The beginning of the incident came from a hunt.

With their mutated powerful eyesight, a Surface People Scout spotted a group of Underground People in Mecha passing by.

That group of Underground People was well-equipped, escorting a large amount of supplies. The markings on their Mecha indicated they were from the trade caravan of Underground Shelter 87, transporting goods to conduct a major deal with other Underground Shelters.

According to the Scout’s information, intercepting that batch of goods would sustain the whole tribe for at least a year. If they sold those Mechas, they wouldn’t need to worry about food for at least two years.

More importantly, there weren’t many of them, so the Surface People could entirely overrun them.

After a brief discussion, the Surface People of Collette City went all out to attack the escort team.

To facilitate the post-operation transfer of goods, all Surface People over one meter five participated in this action, including Hel.

The raiding plan went smoothly. The Underground People delivering the goods were newbies. Their accompanying patrol drones only hovered within five to six kilometers and, to save energy, didn’t maintain constant vigilance, flying only every half hour.

This gap gave the Surface People a chance to quickly set up a trap, surrounding the escort in a pocket formation.

As the sun set, they began setting up camp to rest. To ensure safety, they deployed all drones to hover over the camp, guarding against an attack.

The Surface People used the cover of night and their special horny layers, which could adjust surface temperature, to approach the escort team.

They launched a surprise attack, taking down all drones in one round, causing the Underground People to lose all aerial surveillance.

Then they rapidly approached, throwing several ”Suffocator” grenades into the camp.

The ”Suffocator” grenades were specially designed by the Surface People scientists to target the Underground People’s Mechas. The grenades created a strong electromagnetic Pulse upon detonation, breaking through the shield layer of the Mechas and damaging large weaponry, even paralyzing them.

With the explosion of the ”Suffocator,” the Energy Sources representing the Mechas in the camp all dimmed, going more smoothly than one could imagine.

However, when the Surface People entered the camp, ready to deal with the escort team, they saw no panic on the team members’ faces, only a mysterious mockery.

They quickly noticed these Underground People were different from those they’d encountered before. Their bodies were stained with blood, eyes filled with cruelty, hungrier and more like Hunters.

As the Surface People stood in a daze, three Underground People, not even wearing protective suits, stepped forward, led by a man in a neat suit with a salesman-like fake smile on his face.

He activated a translator, transmitting a voice the Surface People could understand.

”Hello, everyone, I am Mercury. I would like to propose a deal with you.”

The next moment, the seemingly malfunctioning Mechas sprang to life, and not only that, another group of Mechas was actually hidden behind the Surface People, pinning them down.

These Underground People’s Mechas were extraordinarily powerful, having undergone special modifications, pressing the Surface People into a difficult position to fight back.

What troubled them even more was that the Underground People used some unknown means, causing their bodies to gradually weaken.

The battle lasted only half an hour before the Surface People all collapsed to the ground, losing the strength to struggle.

After subduing all the Surface People, Mercury produced a contract, asking everyone to sign it through an oath.

The contract’s content was to cooperate with the Bright Society in a god-making plan, not only contributing all selected experimental subjects but also assisting them in capturing other Surface People around to replenish experimental subjects constantly.

Initially, a few tribe leaders refused to sign. The Underground People then tortured several of them to death in front of all the Surface People, including Hel’s father.

Among them, the 87th Underground Shelter’s chief executed a tribe leader with the Mechanical Long Saber, looking at Hel sitting on the ground, asking Mercury in a still unsatisfied tone:

”Old Mercury, can I kill two more?”

Mercury shook his head and said, ”They are all important experimental subjects. Kill them after the experimental screening is done.”

The Shelter Chief pointed the saber at Hel and said, ”She looks a lot like that dead Surface Person. She’ll be heartbroken over her family’s death—let me reunite them.”

Mercury sighed and said, ”She’s highly talented and one of my key targets.”

The Chief said, ”Killing one more won’t make a difference, just one...”

Before he could finish, the Mecha’s cockpit exploded suddenly, turning him into a mass of blood pulp.

Mercury remarked helplessly, ”I hate inefficient communication. I hope everyone doesn’t waste each other’s time.”

The Chief’s death caused an uproar among the Underground People wearing 87th Underground Shelter uniforms. They wanted to attack Mercury, but even before they could lift their guns, two individuals following Mercury eliminated them.

On those two individuals, Wu Chang noticed the Divine Power, indicating they were clearly members of the Bright Society.

The chaos lasted only a minute before the trio suppressed it. Their method was simple: they killed everyone who attempted to resist, at least one-third of the Underground People present was killed by them.

The Surface People who witnessed the trio’s tactics showed expressions full of fear of the unknown, exactly like when they saw Wu Chang use the Blind Abyss.

Facing the frightened Surface People, Mercury raised the contract, smiling with the standard salesman smile, and said:

”Time to think is over. Can you sign now?”
