Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 148: Chapter 137: The Righteous Beating

Wu Chang and Erin opened the secret passage door and followed Pasto into the Eternal Life Tomb Chamber.

The tomb chamber was lavishly decorated, but compared to the chamber of Tomb No. 41, there was no significant difference in shape and size, even appearing slightly inferior.

As expected, this was also the resting place of a great nobleman, rather than the tomb of Mikhail I.

With the presence of poisonous miasma, Wu Chang wasn’t in a hurry to catch up with Pasto; instead, he deliberately slowed his pace, giving Pasto ample time to marinate in flavor.

By the time he and Erin reached the deepest part of the chamber, Pasto had already pried open the coffin.

Inside the coffin lay an elderly nobleman, so aged that it was hard to discern whether he was truly dead or merely in a deep sleep.

Pasto, seeing the two pursue him, wasn’t flustered at all. He positioned his hand in front of the old man, fingers spread wide, then rotated them into a fist while he chanted a spell.

His fist opened abruptly, injecting a bright energy into the old man’s head. Moments later, the old man’s eyelids fluttered slightly, awakening from his slumber.

Having slept for too long, the old man couldn’t understand the situation at first. He looked at Pasto, about to say something, but before he could speak, he suddenly clutched his throat with both hands, gasping for breath as if the air outside was poisoned, making it impossible for him to breathe.

His body fluctuated unstably, swelling and deflating like a balloon, as his face twisted and contorted, emitting a piercing scream.

Wu Chang pulled Erin back a few steps; as expected, the old man was about to transform into a monster.

Unfortunately, the old man didn’t transform into a monster like the noblemen with grievances. The mutation lasted for more than ten seconds before he gradually regained control of his body’s changes. The non-human parts slowly reverted, with his twisted features returning to their original positions.

After a few more breaths, the old man climbed up from the ground. Though he looked even more worn out, he at least maintained a human form.

Pasto looked at the old man and said, ”Congratulations on passing the trial and coming over to my side, Count Schneider.”

The old man squinted at Pasto, and after a moment of recognition, a look of surprise appeared on his face.

”Pasto, Duke? How have you become so young?”

Pasto smiled and said, ”This is the miracle given to you and me by the Blood Moon. Don’t be surprised yet. Carefully feel the extra power within you. After you’ve experienced the Blood Moon, you can return to youth just like me.”

As a bystander, Wu Chang seemed enlightened. The nobles who built the Eternal Life Tomb Chamber and hid inside didn’t all turn into monsters under the Blood Moon Eternal Life like the tree creatures.

They were like Schrödinger’s dead ones; it’s only by opening the coffin can their status be determined.

Some people couldn’t withstand the trial brought by the miracle of power and transform into monsters upon awakening, like the noblemen in Tomb No. 41, retaining only a little consciousness.

Those like Pasto and Schneider who pass the trial can maintain a human form and rationality, and might even restore their youth under the glow of the Blood Moon.

The question arises: why can the great nobles hiding in luxurious tombs acquire the energy of the Blood Moon Eternal Life miracle, while ordinary people who later witness the Blood Moon charging into the Great Tomb transform into grotesque tree monsters?

Does the Blood Moon also harbor class discrimination, deeming only nobles worthy of eternal life, or did the nobles grasp more information, and their construction of eternal life tombs isn’t just for luxury and enjoyment, but contains some special arrangements within?

Wu Chang leans towards the latter.

Seeing the two centenarian old men chat happier, Wu Chang couldn’t help but cough slightly, indicating to them that there were others here.

”Gentlemen, let’s not focus on dreaming of the future. One built an illegal private residence, the other broke into a civilian property. Let’s go and explain your motives and process, confess to lighten the penalty, resist severely,” he said.

Schneider asked, ”Who are they?”

Pasto answered, ”The gravekeeper of this cemetery.”

Schneider looked at Wu Chang and asked, ”Let me think, my cemetery’s gravekeeper should be my First Knight. Are you his descendants? Who is the current patriarch of the Schneider Clan?”

Wu Chang couldn’t answer this question, so he waved his hand behind him, and Han’er, who had been following them, stepped out.

”The Schneider Clan fell a hundred years ago. Your so-called current patriarch is using this title to preach and recruit for a small church at the Sirena crossroads.” Influenced by Wu Chang, Han’er’s mouth had also become venomous.

Wu Chang clicked his tongue, lamenting the hardships of life, and nobles performing street acts. Too bad the replica plane doesn’t have short videos; otherwise, they might earn some traffic with single-arm spins and tunnel digging.

Schneider couldn’t accept this reality; he frowned, his tone carrying a hint of anger.

”Who allowed you to slander the Schneider Clan like this?”

Han’er sneered disdainfully, ”There’s no need for slander; the patriarch recruiting at the crossroads is my second uncle.”

This sentence led to a sudden silence.

Wu Chang quietly asked, ”Han’er brother, is this old man, this elder, your ancestor?”

He inwardly thought, not good, disaster, Han’er might suddenly recognize his lineage and turn traitor as a double agent.

Han’er snorted, ”Yes, if he hadn’t squandered most of the clan’s wealth on building this Eternal Life Tomb Chamber, the Schneider Clan wouldn’t have declined so quickly.”

”Then if I finish him off later, would you mind?” Wu Chang quietly asked.

Han’er responded decisively, ”Just let me inherit the estate.”

Wu Chang raised his thumb and approved, he loved this kind of fatherly and son-dutiful drama.

Listening to Wu Chang and Han’er echoing each other, old Schneider trembled with anger, ”Fine, fine, fine, since you dare this, I’ll clean you all up first, and after the Blood Moon, I’ll personally go out and revive the Schneider Clan!”

Old Schneider charged towards Han’er. Faced with an ancestor from who knows how many generations ago, Han’er gave no courtesy, displaying skills not shown even when chased by tree monsters.

His gaunt body rapidly filled with blood, and between the flows of blood, it seemed as though hundreds of snakes were moving beneath his skin. From a shrunken old man, he instantly transformed into a brawny berserker-like figure.

The nobles who gained power from the Blood Moon surpass tree monsters in one-on-one combat and can easily win against seasoned players like Bun and Fry. Old Schneider should be stronger than the failures from Tomb No. 41, yet facing Han’er directly, he couldn’t gain an advantage at all.

It was evident Han’er truly wanted to inherit that estate.

Wu Chang looked at Pasto and said, ”Three against two, you’re outnumbered, you’ll suffer less if you give up resistance.”

Pasto showed no signs of panic; he clapped his hands, and heavy footsteps came from behind everyone.

The failures that emerged from the opened coffin in Tomb No. 41 slowly appeared behind everyone.

Pasto unsheathed a rapier from the civilized cane and calmly said, ”Now, it’s three against three.”

Before he finished speaking, old Schneider in the fight froze, his body suddenly losing control as Wu Chang activated the soul poison, shouting to Han’er, ”Pass the ball!”

Han’er crossed his hands into a hammer and smashed it hard into old Schneider’s back, sending him flying towards Wu Chang.

Erin, who had been inactive until now, swept her robe aside, revealing the exaggerated Light of Steadfastness beneath, and delivered a powerful home run to the incoming old Schneider.

Resurrected monsters were originally targets that the Church needed to dispel. Erin was not only without psychological burden during the fight, but also found it professionally pertinent, thus doubling her efforts.

Old Schneider flew aside, thinking it might end there, when suddenly the wall, previously empty, condensed into a giant.

Wu Chang’s True Self intercepted first with the Vajra Arm, catching the ball mid-air, then grabbed old Schneider’s head and executed a choking throw towards the ground.

Old Schneider, first harmed by neurotoxin, lost control of his body, unable to make any defense or relief, taking an entire set of smooth combo.

No matter how durable a monster powered by the Blood Moon was, it couldn’t withstand such an ordeal, entering a dying state immediately.

This revealed the difference between nobles within the Eternal Life Tomb Chamber and the wandering tree monsters in the cemetery. Even without the Red Moon, the monsters the nobles became possessed nearly immortal traits.

Unfortunately, Wu Chang wasn’t giving him this chance.

As the final baton of the combo relay, Wu Chang first launched two Palm Thunder strikes, eliminating old Schneider’s last remaining health. He then unveiled the Soul Cleansing Banner, breaking the Blood Moon energy within old Schneider.

Without the Blood Moon’s power, old Schneider’s body rapidly weathered, turning into ash in the blink of an eye.

The True Self devoured old Schneider’s vitality, gaining a temporary power limit increase of 15 points.

Wu Chang looked at Pasto and the monster behind him, his eyes revealing a greed for attribute values.

”Mr. Pasto, now it’s four against two.”
