Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 133: Chapter 125: Wish

The call from Sword Star brought good news, at least for the majority of the players.

Due to Wu Chang’s vital performance in this Erosion Dungeon and Professor Shi Ning’s recommendation, he is about to be promoted.

The Anomaly Management Bureau, whether as an administrative unit or an extraordinary violence-oriented institution based on strength, has a strict internal ranking system.

Apart from the informal collaborators, formal members are divided into six major levels.

Each formal member is scored by weighting factors such as current combat power, future potential, and merit, ultimately calculating their hierarchical ranking.

The six major levels are Combatant, Explorer, Investigator, Executor, Wanderer, and Tuner, ranked from low to high, with each major level divided into sub-levels three, two, and one.

For example, Wu Chang, Spirit Fox, and Hamster, newly confirmed formal members, are Level 3 Combatants. Their instructor, Zhao Yan, as a backbone of Wanghai City, is a Level 1 Combatant and will soon be promoted to Explorer.

Above Combatant is Explorer, indicating that when entering a dungeon strategy, one no longer worries about completing the main task and can start exploring various gains and tasks within the dungeon.

Sword Star and Meng Yawen are at this stage.

Further up, if you reach Level 30 to become a top combat force in the Desolate Realm, or complete the descent mission and enter the Abyss Second Layer, it means you can fully investigate the mysteries of the dungeon and begin pursuing higher dungeon completion, becoming an Investigator.

Director Gao and Cold Mountain are at this stage.

However, due to the significant potential gap between the two, even though both are at Level 30, Director Gao, with the addition of being a branch director, is still only a Level 3 Investigator, whereas Cold Mountain, not yet in the Abyss Second Layer, is already a Level 2 Investigator.

As for Shi Ning, he is an exception. His importance in the research domain far surpasses that in the combat domain, so even if he is only Level 30, he enjoys the treatment of a Wanderer.

Being able to become an Executor, a member of the Management Bureau above an Explorer, means having a reputation in the Abyss Second Layer and being able to handle things independently, which is a benchmark for many as a powerhouse.

They all hold a place in reality, like Xu Dejun; when he speaks, everyone gives him some respect.

As for the higher levels of Wanderer and Tuner, those are figures who have descended into the Abyss Third Layer, and they virtually do not appear in the real world; Sword Star did not elaborate on this over the phone.

The weight of B-Level merit is significant, considerably raising the rank points of both Wu Chang and Sword Star.

As a result, Sword Star was promoted from Level 1 Explorer to Level 3 Investigator, whereas Wu Chang, under Shi Ning’s recommendation, was promoted an entire major level to Level 3 Explorer, surpassing his instructor Zhao Yan.

According to Sword Star, if it weren’t for his poor foundation and initial D- rating, his level could have been raised even further.

For the Level 3 Explorer rank, Wu Chang is very satisfied, which is what he initially wanted.

Becoming an Explorer means stepping into the Management Bureau’s core members, with a certain degree of autonomy.

This means as long as he doesn’t want to, not even Director Gao can forcibly assign him tasks unless it’s a citywide crisis like an Erosion Dungeon; he can justifiably slack off.

This aligns perfectly with his original plan, to observe the Management Bureau’s inner operations discreetly from a comfortable position, evaluating whether to join the Bureau in the future.

If it weren’t for Sword Star’s last words, this would have been a perfect outcome.

Sword Star finally told him that to ensure no Evil God believers infiltrate the Management Bureau, the core members of the Bureau need to release their Attribute Panel for observation upon registration, checking for any Skills and Status related to Evil God believers.

The Management Bureau has a specialized detection method, so he should not hold back when displaying his Attribute Panel to avoid unnecessary misunderstandings.

Upon hearing this news, Wu Chang was stunned, thinking, ”My goodness, is this to check for Evil God believers or to check on me?”

Reaching this point, he realized he’s in a tight spot.

If he displays the Attribute Panel, his extraordinary Attribute Value will certainly expose his identity as a monstrous rookie.

However, not showing the Attribute Panel might imply a guilty conscience and raise suspicions of helping the Peaceful Sect’s eggplant plant Erosion Dungeons.

Does he have to stop here?

Although he has a decent impression of the Management Bureau at this stage, it’s attributed to the Bureau’s lower ranks.

Regarding the higher-ups, his intuition has always warned him not to approach rashly until he’s stronger.

Previously, he thought his aversion to the Bureau’s higher-ups was just a reluctance to be a mere pawn and be bound by the organization, but after experiencing the Erosion Dungeon, he realized his caution stemmed from the unknown aspect of the Bureau.

It’s like that classic iceberg theory diagram; the Management Bureau he sees is just a part of the massive iceberg floating above water, maybe even a fragment of it.

Based on intelligence gathered from the Abyssal Game forum, the first large-scale player recruitment began at least twenty years ago.

At that time, the Four Major Organizations were already taking shape.

There exists a nearly accepted conspiracy theory on the forum, suggesting that the Four Major Organizations were researching Abyssal Game before its ”public testing.”

Just how many secrets are hidden within this colossal entity, nobody knows.

Especially after the Erosion Dungeon, he feels more unfamiliar with the Abyssal Game and the Management Bureau.

The unknown is the greatest fear.

As he fretted, a sudden flash of inspiration sparked a solution in his mind.

He picked up the Stone of Miracles and wished directly, ”Grant me the ability to alter the Attribute Panel to deceive the Bureau’s inspection.”

”Your wish exceeds the range of wishes, wish failed.”

Tsk, no wonder Sword Star emphasized the inspection ability; ordinary abilities can’t be hidden.

However, there is still a way; the core member registration is two days later. After twelve tomorrow, his dungeon cooldown will end.

If directly obtaining the ability is impossible, getting a chance to have the corresponding ability should be fine.

Wait a minute, since the wish result exceeds the range and provides an alert instead of directly consuming the Stone of Miracles, could he be greedier?

He tried wishing: ”In the next Abyssal Game dungeon, take me to one that can resolve all my latent threats.”

He initially speculated to the maximum and planned to lower his demands gradually if the wish failed.

Who knew as soon as he made the wish, the Stone of Miracles flashed a strong light, shattering into starry points that absorbed into his body.

”Stone of Miracles shattered, your wish is granted.”

Did it just succeed?

This wish was granted so easily that it surprised him; hopefully, there’s no reduction in its effect?

At this point, he can only take things one step at a time.

The next day, the Wanghai Branch held a small celebration event, attended by Director Gao and Lei Huo.

Meng Yawen, on the other hand, avoided Wu Chang initially, making it awkward to appear now, so she excused herself from the event.

Gazing at Director Gao’s bald head, Wu Chang was reminded of something.

He opened the dormitory group chat, scrolled up to find the two photos He Wei had sneakily taken, along with a blurry video.

He called Zhao Yan over, suspiciously asking in a low voice, ”Is this our director?”

Zhao Yan hurriedly covered his phone screen, signaling ”shush” with his gesture.

”Quickly put it away, this is not talked about at the Wanghai Branch.”

Wu Chang shrugged, saying, ”That’s normal, everyone has some special hobbies, more or less, I won’t spread it.”

Zhao Yan didn’t know how to respond, after mulling it over, he could only utter:

”Director Gao doesn’t do it just as a hobby, it’s all for Wanghai City.”

The celebration went on until the evening, not only celebrating the resolution of the Erosion Dungeon crisis but also receiving Lin Jiang’s promised reward for a perfect clear of Peaceful Town.

Ten thousand Rotten Silver Coins and access to an Intermediate Reward Dungeon, a windfall indeed.

Unfortunately, even though the Reward Dungeon does not occupy the Abyssal Game dungeon cooldown, it requires a month-long cooldown between each Reward Dungeon, unable to stack with the Wish Dungeon.

After the celebration feast, Wu Chang returned to the Golden Scenery Garden, entered the Abyssal Game after midnight, and prepared to start his Wish Dungeon.𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
