Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 138: Chapter 129: Blood Moon (Part 2)

Its trunk, resembling a large tree, was as thick as the combined reach of two people. Upon closer inspection, it became apparent that its body was woven from numerous ”thin ropes.”

However, each ”thin rope” was composed of human torsos missing their heads, connected to each other.

The upper part of the tree trunk was covered with various branches, resembling a dense canopy at first glance. The lower part grew countless human limbs as roots, which were currently rapidly digging into the earth, transitioning from a ”rooted” state to a mobile state.

The voice questioning him came from the upper middle part of the tree monster’s trunk, about four meters off the ground.

The headless human bodies forming the tree monster’s trunk, their missing heads, were neatly arranged in a circular ring and nailed there.

Without necks, these heads couldn’t look up to see the moon above.

But they could move their eyeballs, and dozens of eyes were now filled with jealousy and madness, gazing at the passing cannon below.

”You really are trying to steal the moon from me!”

”I’m not stealing anything from you!”

The cannon activated the acceleration skill, rapidly increasing the distance from the tree monster, and took out a rifle.

He pulled the trigger, bullets pouring out like a torrential rain. Every bullet that hit the tree monster exploded violently, causing the tree monster to wail in pain.

It only took five seconds for the bullets to cut the tree monster in half at the waist, turning the faces on the trunk into sieves.

Whether on Blue Star or in the Desolate Realm, no carbon-based life could withstand the powerful firepower of thermal weapons.

Especially since this was a weapon enhanced by a Future Warrior.

A Future Warrior’s reincarnation is characterized by weapon modification. As long as the current equipped weapon is a thermal weapon or high-tech weapon, it can be futuristically modified.

The rifle in the cannon’s hand, after future modifications, had its recoil, magazine capacity, bullet power, and firing rate greatly enhanced, also gaining adaptive special modifications through target analysis.

This made his C-Level energy rifle more powerful than ordinary B-Level firearms.

The Future Warrior’s reincarnation barely strengthened the player’s own attributes but consistently ranked within the top ten green reincarnations, even more sought-after than some red reincarnations, due to its powerful weapon modification skills.

With this gun, the cannon single-handedly took down hundreds of strong goblins in the last B-Level instance.

Such a brilliant record was also the reason he dared to be the second to speak after Guang Zhi.

If he couldn’t beat Lei Hu, surely he could handle a tree monster?

Buzz~

The cannon heard a buzzing sound in his ears, and then he saw a flock of crows flying across the sky, the bright full moon beginning to take on a bloody hue.

The severed half of the tree monster on the ground turned its face upward, catching sight of the blood moon in the sky.

”What a beautiful moon, I knew it, you had hidden it!”

Under the effect of the blood moon, the broken body of the tree monster rapidly regenerated, standing up again.

Once standing, the moon once more vanished from its sight.

Dozens of faces shed bloody tears, showing an expression of sadness and anger intertwined, saying to the cannon:

”Damn thief, you’ve hidden the moon again; it’s my divine relic, you cannot take it away!”

The cannon cursed, thinking how it loved the moon, why not just put their heads in the canopy?

He raised his gun and fired at the tree monster but quickly realized something was wrong.

The blood moon had vastly strengthened the tree monster; where one shot was sufficient to cause damage before, now it required three to five shots.

At the same time, the recovery speed of the tree monster upon being damaged had also greatly increased.

Before the blood moon, half a magazine was enough to sever the tree monster at the waist. Yet, after the blood moon, a full magazine was just able to blast large crater-like holes on its surface, making it difficult even to penetrate through.

During the pause to reload, the tree monster’s human-leg-composed lower limbs filled with blood, turning black and purple. In an instant, it took a spring-loaded start, charging straight at him.

As an experienced player, the cannon had battled large monsters solo dozens of times before. He knew how to survive during a lull in firepower and how to protect himself.

He raised a C-Level explosive-resistant shield with his left hand, curling his whole body behind it to block the monster’s long-range attacks.

Also, as the tree monster came within two meters of him, he used a side-roll technique.

C-Level skill Dodge, with a brief invincibility effect during a roll, ten charges, and a cool-down time of 120 seconds.

With the explosive-resistant shield, it was enough for him to ride out a period without firepower and distance himself from the monster.

A single roll evaded the tree monster’s charge; midway through rolling, he glanced at a notebook that read:

”If during the night patrol, the moon in the sky turns red, immediately return to the Gravekeeper’s hut and by no means engage in battle during the blood moon. If a battle occurs, you will be temporarily unable to leave the cemetery.”

Amynos!

The cannon’s tongue bloomed like a lotus on the spot, expressing a strong desire for interactive movement with the former gravekeeper’s female relatives.

You’re warning is right on time!

The tree monster, missing its charge, didn’t pause. After landing, it turned like a snake and charged at him along the ground.

Though appearing large and slow, due to its massive size, its absolute speed was not slow.

The cannon didn’t have time to put distance between them; he had to roll once more, dodging like a matador and escaping in a different direction.

He weaved through the gravestones in a serpentine fashion, all the while raising his loaded rifle, attempting to thwart the tree monster’s further assault.

Yet the tree monster showed no sign of stopping; finding its direct charge ineffective against the cannon, it changed its attack mode, straightening its body, lying horizontally, rolling toward the cannon like a log.

The tree monster crushed the gravestones and stones encountered during its roll, wrapping them around itself as armor, not only deflecting bullets but also growing larger like a rolling snowball.

The cannon, skilled in trench warfare and long-range combat, faced significant pressure as the tree monster persistently pursued him at close range.

After dodging several attacks from the tree monster, he’d almost exhausted his roll attempts. Continuing further would leave him completely passive.

The good news was, the cannon had grasped the tree monster’s rhythm and found a way to break through.

He used his second-to-last roll, timing the invincibility perfectly to dodge the tree monster’s impact, simultaneously moving close to the tree monster’s canopy.

Instantly, he retrieved a string of grenades from his carry-on space and tossed them towards the tree monster’s canopy.

Based on his observations, the canopy was the tree monster’s most vulnerable area, attacking it would cause significant damage to the tree monster.

According to the frequency of the tree monster’s attacks, after landing he would use his last roll, dodging the tree monster’s pursuit and avoiding the explosion’s shockwave during the invincibility time.

Everything was under control.

However, as he threw the grenades at the canopy, he saw the tree monster’s canopy split open, revealing a bottomless abyss-like mouth.

In an instant, the tree monster’s body elongated like a cobra hunting prey, swallowing the string of grenades and the cannon inside.

Feeling the darkness suddenly engulfing him and the nearby eruption of light and heat, the cannon cursed:

”Damn slow-cut!”

Boom!

The explosion virtually blew away the upper half of the tree monster’s body, but under the blood moon, it quickly recovered.

It roamed aimlessly in the Royal Tomb, searching for suitable branches to stick into its exposed upper body.

As it walked, it caught the scent of living people, picking up the pace in that direction, soon discovering two figures.

”Brother Sean, please spare me. Shall we continue the night patrol after the blood moon passes?”

Han’er was utterly overwhelmed. As the old gravekeeper, he was well aware of the blood moon’s horror; even he wouldn’t enter the cemetery during a blood moon.

But this new fool just wouldn’t listen; he was under some evil technique, unable to defy the other, and could only constantly persuade.

Wu Chang waved it off, ”I’m worried about myself!”

Han’er was frantic: ”I’m worried about myself!”

”You, that’s enough!” Sean stopped him. ”When we get to the Great Tomb, I’ll handle the incantations.”

”Sean,” called out Wu Chang suddenly. He pointed at the sky. ”No. The blood moon!”

When faced with the Mediterranean tree monster, Sean looked lost for words. It’s middle is bald as an eagle’s nest, with branches, but the sides are smooth.

”Can we still escape, Han’er?” Wu Chang whispered urgently.

”Catch me if you can!” Sean started, quickly running forward. His long legs carried him faster than the tree monster could lumber in the giant open cemetery, weaving to find refuge among the tombs.

”See you back at the Gravekeeper’s Hut,” Wu Chang released, dodging swiftly.

The tree monster’s attempted tackle missed the mark. Upon landing, it made a sharp turn, slithering like a snake towards him across the ground.
