Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 124: Chapter 119: The Truth Behind the Wish

The elderly man, transformed into a monster, lunged down heavily, swinging his claws to tear the kneeling Sword Star into pieces.

Yet, the expected warmth of blood, the soft sensation of tearing muscle fibers, and the sweet burst of dreams—all failed to materialize.

All he received was emptiness.

Could it be that I have lost my original intent, unable to enjoy the thrill of being a Predator?

After briefly doubting himself, the elderly man found the reason.

What he tore apart was not Sword Star’s body but a paperman inscribed with Talismans.

The afterimage of Sword Star’s body dispersed, and upon reconsolidating, appeared above the elderly man.

Sword Star formed a Sword Technique with his fingers and coldly shouted, ”Exterminate the demon!”

The Flying Sword before him transformed into a stream of light, descending from the sky to pierce the elderly man directly.

As a noble Flying Sword, compared to ordinary cold weapons, it had three advantages: First, a larger attack range, as a Sword Immortal, allowing one to take the head of a person from a hundred miles away; second, the techniques were more varied, freed from the constraints of human hands, making the Flying Sword’s transformations harder to predict and angles more tricky.

Third, was in the word ”flying”; flying equated to speed.

Of all martial arts in the world, speed is invincible.

Sword Star’s move was so fast that when you saw the sword light, one was already struck by the Flying Sword.

The elderly man’s monster transformation rendered him agile and reactive, yet he only had time to raise his arms to block with his flesh.

However, the advantage of the Flying Sword was not something mere flesh could withstand.

The Flying Sword easily pierced through the elderly man’s arms, with the blade fully submerged into his chest, followed by a muffled explosive sound from within, and red Exterminating Evil Flames surged out from the wound, engulfing the elderly man.

Earlier, the elderly man intended to incite Sword Star’s Inspiration Runaway, using the flames to roast Sword Star’s brain; now Sword Star set the elderly man ablaze with Exterminating Evil Flames—blow for blow.

Engulfed in fire, the elderly man lifted his eyes towards Sword Star, who was attacking him, and showed a relaxed expression.

So the attack earlier missed, it shocked me; I thought I had lost interest in predatory dreams.

Misunderstanding cleared, the elderly man closed his eyes leisurely.

Watching the entire battle, Wu Chang couldn’t help but click his tongue.

After the Peaceful Town incident, he originally thought Sword Star was merely a fishy title-holder with a hidden profession, unworthy of its name.

But now, without the concern of Inspiration Runaway and returning to his comfortable zone of advantage, the combative prowess Sword Star displayed could only be described as terrifying.

The Flying Sword move just now was so fast that Wu Chang couldn’t react, merely relying on inspiration to faintly sense the Flying Sword’s direction.

Yet even if his inspiration could react, his Agility Attribute wouldn’t support him in defense.

If he were to swap places with the elderly man, the result would be no different—equally one-hit KO’d.

No matter how many Items and powers he used, survival before Sword Star’s attacks would be impossible.

Crushing through Peaceful Town by Giant Whale Transformation, he became somewhat arrogant, thinking that a three-digit Power would let him swagger through the Desolate Realm against any Evil God cultists or Four Major Organizations.

All could be grasped and refined in an instant.

If not for Abyss’s four levels, he already desired to sport a cigar, sunglasses, and a big gold chain, beginning MVP settlement animation.

Sword Star’s sword was like a slap that deflated him, not only sending flying his cigar and sunglasses but also breaking his gold chain.

Calmly reassessing the combat strength of the Four Major Organizations, Wu Chang firmly decided not to expose himself anytime soon.

Still need to keep a low profile.

Though Sword Star looks spectacular, in Management Bureau, he is merely a promising newcomer.

In Management Bureau, those entering Abyss Second Layer or even Abyss Third Layer, who isn’t a direct lineage nurtured Talent?

After coming from Peaceful Town, Zhao Yan secretly mumbled to him about Sword Star accompanying the lecture group to Wanghai, merely on a bigwig’s whim.

For Sword Star, someone nurtured directly by a major figure does so much; so, as an outsider, wouldn’t he be more subject to manipulation?

Being a mere fade mark, with a D-level rating trash, even if displaying B-Level or A-Level Talent was a pleasant surprise worthy of focused cultivation—he could be indulged even with little temper or difficulty in command.

Yet, if he joined Management Bureau under the guise of a mysterious newcomer, what he could and couldn’t do would be bound to the greater good; it wouldn’t be up to him.

Though favoring Management Bureau, the position he aspired to was as a partner or honorary advisor, not as a dog for some upper echelon faction.

Elsewhere, Sword Star, retrieving his Flying Sword, was unaware that Wu Chang had already regarded him as a counterexample—a minor piece easily summoned by the upper layers.

Sword Star picked up the mask dropped by the elderly man upon death and said to Wu Chang:

”The system prompt tells me that I have received a minor miracle’s blessing and become a Miracle Committee member.”

Wu Chang cleared his mind, nodded, and said, ”It seems no special kills are needed; just taking out a Miracle Committee member allows you to inherit their identity.”

Sword Star donned the mask, asking, ”How did you notice he had a problem?”

Upon entering the special wishing hall, Wu Chang discreetly signaled Sword Star about the situation being off.

Because of Wu Chang’s signal, Sword Star activated the paperman early, evading the elderly man’s sneak attack.

The reason was simple; Wu Chang saw the elderly man had seven or eight grudges hanging upon entry.

The grudge holders, comprising powerful veterans, were caught off guard, killed by the elderly man using the same method.

The elderly man, a qualified villain, had the classic villain flaw of being verbose.

He liked narrating to near-death prey what transpired, watching as their bodies endured pain and their spirits plunged into despair.

Therefore, Wu Chang’s intelligence from the grudges was exceptionally abundant.

From the start, there was no miracle to face, no further wishes.

Those entering the special wishing hall were not Miracle Committee candidates but food.

They would use special means, causing Inspiration Runaway in prey as they wish, wish fused with runaway Inspiration in the hall’s effect, concreting prey’s wish.

Concrete wishes became the finest food for Miracle Committee members.

Achieving dreams was mere bait, cultivated through pure Wish Power, and harvesting them as food was the Miracle Committee’s goal.

Imagine truly believing in pie falling from the sky, being forced to wish, and then having it granted.

Of course, Sword Star couldn’t be told directly; another manner was necessary.

Wu Chang expressed a troubled expression and said, ”I’m unsure of the connection; as you know, I wished and ended a Miracle Committee member, obtaining his identity.”

”Upon entering the room, I faintly sensed maliciousness targeting wishes, so I alerted you. You’re now a Miracle Committee member; can’t you sense it?”

Sword Star closed his eyes, comprehended Wu Chang’s method, then opened them, shaking his head, ”Can’t sense it.”

Wu Chang: ”That’s really strange.”

Though Sword Star was puzzled, now wasn’t the time for trivial concerns. The two connected with Shi Ning, briefly describing what happened at Miracle Committee headquarters.

From Sword Star’s plight, Shi Ning keenly sensed Miracle Committee’s true purpose in Wish Power harvesting.

Aligned with Wu Chang’s seemingly casual disclosure of sensing a grand miracle while descending underground, Shi Ning quickly decided.

Have the two head underground to uncover the grand miracle’s true nature.
