Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 145: Chapter 135: Hidden Motives (Double-length) (Part 2)

”But once the dungeon corrodes reality, then...”

”So what?” Lei Hu’s response was somewhat impatient.

”A new era is about to dawn. Players like you and me, who can seize opportunities, will be the masters of the future. Ordinary people are nothing but ants. What does it matter, even if many die? Without power, they’re just bigger ants. Rather than worrying about them, you should first worry about yourself.”

The Iron Armor Corps was inherently a PVP cancer group, valuing power above all else, treating life like grass. To achieve their goals, attacking players was routine, so how could they care about the life and death of ordinary people?

Thinking of the bald man and Han Shi who died in the dungeon, the Ranger sighed. Lei Hu was right; it was his acknowledgment of this point that led him to join Lei Hu and the others.

However, as a player who focused on dungeon strategies, the Ranger always thought a bit more. ”I’m just curious, who entrusted us with this task, and what’s their purpose?”

Lei Hu scoffed, ”You only need to know that we have no right to refuse, and if the other party can offer enough reward, that’s enough.”

The Ranger didn’t stop there, ”I can’t help but think, if things get exposed, what will we do about the Management Bureau?”

”Why would it get exposed?” Lei Hu showed a cruel smile, ”As long as we kill all the others before making a move, then no one will know that the Iron Armor Corps did it.”

”Because of the last dungeon incident, haven’t you always hated the Management Bureau? That kid from the Management Bureau, I’ll leave him to you, so you can vent your anger. Before killing him, don’t forget to squeeze every drop of value from him. If he can survive till now, the Management Bureau must have worked hard on him, so don’t waste it.”

Inside the Soul Light Cathedral, Oda in a high-level Concealment state moved like the wind, quickly passing between the patrolling cathedral guards, with no one noticing his presence.

The Scout specialization granted him strong observational skills. After entering the inner side of the Great Cathedral, he avoided three Magic Traps, silently dismantled two hidden door mechanisms, and arrived at the deepest room of the cathedral.

Then he...

Knocked on the door.

”Come in.”

Oda pushed the door open and entered the room. Inside was a secret altar, not dedicated to the Soul Light, but to a crescent moon-like eye.

If Wu Chang were here, he would certainly recognize it as the symbol of the Peaceful Sect.

The Fire Master was kneeling in front of the secret altar, praying devoutly. Oda dared not disturb him and began to pray softly at the door.

After a while, the Fire Master’s prayer ended, and he slowly stood up from the mat, wiping the secret altar, and asked casually:

”On the way here, you weren’t discovered by anyone, right?”

”No, your Eminence the Saint Heir, please rest assured.” Oda quickly bowed, bending his body into a perfect right angle.

The Fire Master frowned and said, ”I’m only one of the Saint Heir candidates, not the Saint Heir yet.”

Oda replied earnestly, ”As long as you complete the great miracle, you will surely become the Saint Heir. Compared to you, the other candidates have no competitive power at all.”

The Fire Master showed a faint smile. The Soul Light Sect had become his life’s work, his stake in competing for the position of Saint Heir. If the major events of the Soul Light Sect were successful, the position of Saint Heir would be firmly within his grasp.

Unfortunately, because he had been too arrogant recently, a scoundrel had stolen the crucial Four-sided Age Fire Lamp, or else he could have closed the net a few days ago, without waiting for this batch of players to enter.

Thinking of it filled him with anger. Scoundrel, you’d better hope I never catch you!

The Fire Master calmed his emotions and asked, ”How are things on the player’s side?”

Oda lowered his head, with a slightly hesitant voice, ”I suspect they have already noticed something wrong with me and are testing me.”

”Why? You’ve always been cautious in your actions, you shouldn’t have been exposed.”

Oda said, ”Maybe it was because I completed the night patrol under the red moon last night and exposed a flaw. Today, during their discussion, they intentionally sent me away under the guise of searching for missing players. Especially that player named Zhan Gui, he said acting alone was dangerous and sent me to scout the Soul Light Cathedral, clearly setting a trap for me.”

The Fire Master’s face turned slightly serious. The Iron Armor Corps truly lived up to their reputation for being skilled in combat with players, their insight was remarkably sharp.

One wrong step leads to another mistake. If not for the Four-sided Age Fire Lamp delaying matters, he wouldn’t have encountered these troublesome individuals.

”What are you planning to do?”

Oda was silent for a moment, then said, ”I plan to use their plan against them, take back some unimportant information, and then ask you to create some disturbances, spreading rumors that someone is infiltrating the cathedral to steal holy relics.”

”As long as they have no excuse to deal with me, when the next Blood Moon arises, I will assassinate that player named Zhan Gui. He is an expert in dungeon strategy, Lei Hu is simple-minded, relying entirely on him for advisement. Your Eminence the Saint Heir, rest assured, I would rather die than let them complete the dungeon breakthrough!”

The Fire Master nodded, showing a look of appreciation in his eyes. He took out an Item and handed it to Oda, saying:

”Go ahead and do it, the Lord will protect you.”

”Yes!”

The other players each harbored schemes and intrigues, but things were much more relaxed on Wu Chang’s side.

Wu Chang, Erin, and Han’er were in the Gravekeeper’s wooden hut, gathered together playing Landlord while waiting for the night patrol to begin.

”Three with one. Brother Han’er, will the Blood Moon appear again tonight?”

”Support it. There is an interval between Blood Moons, usually only appearing once a month, rarely twice.”

Wu Chang threw out a bomb card and asked, ”What happens if I don’t go on the night patrol?”
