Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 144: Chapter 135: Hidden Motives (Double-Length)

According to the Gravekeeper’s instructions, Wu Chang needed to temporarily store the delivered corpses in the church around Cemetery No. 44 and wait until daylight the next day to bury them.

Using a flatbed cart to transport the body bags to the small church, he and Han’er unwrapped each body bag one by one, ensuring that the hands and feet of the corpses were bound before they could leave the small church.

Wu Chang deliberately left the problematic corpse for last. After verifying the first six were correct, as he opened the seventh body bag, he was about to mention that this corpse seemed peculiar when Han’er let out a surprised exclamation before him.

”What’s wrong?” Wu Chang asked accordingly.

Han’er pointed at the deceased body and said, ”He is Evan, the carpenter from the Sirena City District. I used to often go to him for repairs when my tools were damaged. If I recall correctly, he was chosen for a resurrection ritual after an accident last month, he should have just been resurrected.”

Wu Chang inspected Evan’s corpse, and under Han’er’s guidance, they discovered a mark of a Soul Light Church follower on Evan and also found traces of Age Fire Healing on him.

This completely confirmed Erin’s previous suspicions.

Those who participated in the resurrection ritual, lying on the Holy Table, became people under the divine spotlight. After they left the Holy Table, no one would care if they died in some corner of the city later.

Aside from the divine miracle being a sham, what made Wu Chang more suspicious was whether the Peace Church was deliberately sending these processed, resurrected followers into the Great Tomb?

What exactly is the Peace Church planning?

Wu Chang took out the Soul Cleansing Banner, performed an exorcism on Evan, and, while Han’er wasn’t paying attention, allowed the True Self of Social Phobia to absorb the vitality.

Consumed 0.5 Will, gained 0.5 Power.

Wu Chang shook his head, feeding on miscellaneous fish for power is too slow; to truly replenish, one has to consume elite monsters.

While Wu Chang was being picky about his gains, the atmosphere around Lei Hu wasn’t good.

In front of the Gravekeeper’s hut at Cemetery No. 39, six players were gathered, the atmosphere somewhat heavy, seemingly waiting for something.

A few minutes later, a player dressed as a Ninja leapt down from a tree, landing in the center of the group.

The Ninja’s name was Oda, a Sakura Island native, skilled in the agility system, adept at reconnaissance, tracking, and assassination. He was one of the three, including Wu Chang, who didn’t get a chance to introduce themselves earlier.

Oda bowed to Lei Hu and then said, ”I went to inspect Cemetery No. 43, the cannon is not in the Gravekeeper’s hut, the Gravekeeper’s oil lamp and the previous Gravekeeper’s notes are not in the hut, he likely didn’t return after entering the cemetery last night.”

Oda left out one assumption, if nothing unexpected happened with the cannon, something should have gone awry.

On entering the instance on the first night, they encountered a blood moon. Among the seven present, four chose to forgo night patrol, using a margin for error to avoid the instance’s initial treachery.

Evidently, the cannon decided to face the challenge directly, unfortunately, the challenge was not successful.

Lei Hu looked to the Ranger beside him and said to everyone, ”I’m not good at strategy for an instance. My Zhan Gui brother here is a specialist in strategy for instances within the Iron Armor Corps. After last night’s contemplation, he has already drafted a plan for the instance strategy.”

The Ranger stepped out from beside Lei Hu, nodded to everyone, and then said:

”I’m sure after signing the Gravekeeper’s Agreement, everyone should have received a notebook from the previous Gravekeeper. The notebook contains many taboos about the Great Tomb. Our instance is a B-Level one, teetering on the edge of running out of control. Before completely understanding the reasons for these taboos and finding countermeasures, I believe we should adopt a conservative approach, avoiding intentionally violating the taboos.”

”Cannon is the best example.”

Several players agreed with the Ranger’s words.

The Ranger then changed the topic, saying, ”However, in an instance on the verge of losing control, the situation inside could deteriorate at any moment. Surviving thirty days to complete the main task is extremely challenging. We cannot sit and wait for death, we must actively gather intelligence.”

”Exploring the Great Tomb has many taboos, so why not target Sirena City first.”

”I took a look around Sirena City during the day and discovered an organization called the Soul Light Sect, which has independently caused three miracles. Miracles are the core setting of this instance, from which it can be inferred that the Soul Light Sect definitely has an important connection to clearing the instance.”

The Ranger finished speaking and looked at Oda.

”During the day, the Soul Light Sect not only had many followers, but also guards from various major noble families maintaining order. Investigating is extremely difficult, only at night, when defenses are relaxed, do we have a chance.”

”Oda, you completed your patrol before the blood moon last night, your margin for error is still ample, to clear the instance, we need you to make another trip to explore the Soul Light Sect’s true situation.”

Oda frowned, nearly blurting out ”Baka,” but meeting Lei Hu’s eyes, he swallowed his words forcefully.

”I’ll make a trip, but I can’t guarantee there will be any findings.”

The Ranger smiled and continued assigning tasks: ”While the blood moon hasn’t appeared, we should participate in night patrol as much as possible, searching for information within the Great Tomb. But in an instance on the brink of losing control, acting alone is a big taboo, it should be two per group, acting together during patrol.”

After finishing the groupings, Oda headed for Sirena City, and the other players returned to their respective cemeteries, leaving Lei Hu and the Ranger.

The Ranger looked at Lei Hu, his tone somewhat hesitant, ”Are we really going to let the instance go out of control?”

Lei Hu replied nonchalantly, ”That’s what the other side requested, we just need to follow along. Don’t worry, they have already sent an item to end the instance early, the instance going out of control won’t affect us.”
