Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 141: Chapter 132: Blood Moon Eternal Life

There are generally three types of people who come to Sirena.

One is the dying, another is the pilgrims of the Holy Land, and the third is the dignitaries.

The closer to death one is, the stronger the desire for life; the more devout a believer is, the more they believe in the existence of miracles, believing that as long as they call, they will get a response from the divine.

And the dignitaries possess both of these traits.

They both cherish their lives due to their lust for power and believe that their status grants them everything, so when they catch wind of a valid miracle, they naturally cannot let it pass.

These three types of people fill Sirena, praying in the Church for so long that a desire emerged that could fulfill the wishes of all three groups simultaneously.

Eternal life.

Since the dawn of civilization, death has been one of the most terrifying things for intelligent beings, the fear stemming from the unknown after death.

Whether it’s the soul entering the Celestial Kingdom after death or the reincarnations of the six paths, these are all fabricated images to transform the unknown after death into known certainties.

For this reason, as much as humans fear death, they equally crave eternal life.

The Sage’s Moon can bring peace to the dying, alleviating their pain.

But can it also bring eternal life?

For Sirena to witness the first miracle and be called the Holy City, perhaps it truly is a place favored by the God.

People’s expectations for the Sage’s Moon began to distort, and in their overwhelming longing for eternal life, a second miracle appeared.

One night, a Blood Moon appeared in the skies over Sirena.

At first, people paid it no mind, thinking it was a mere coincidence, but when, the next morning, the dead who were just buried in the Kingdom’s Great Cemetery the day before resurrected and walked out, the people were in uproar.

They had once again witnessed a miracle, the God had favored Sirena once more.

The dead buried in the Great Cemetery came back to life, while those outside showed no abnormalities, the answer was clear: the issue lay with the Blood Moon.

So the living rushed into the Kingdom’s Great Cemetery at night, eager to bathe in the light of the Blood Moon to gain eternal life.

However, after the miracle of that night, the Blood Moon did not appear again.

People could only pray more devoutly for eternal life and the return of the Blood Moon.

The great nobles bought large areas within the cemetery to build lavish tombs underground, afraid of missing the next Blood Moon, they moved into these tombs in advance.

This included the King of the Mikel Kingdom, Mikhail I.

At the same time, to prevent too many commoners from entering and diluting the power of the miracle, the nobles funded the construction of high walls, posting their strongest guards as gravekeepers to prevent uninvited guests from trespassing into the cemetery.

And so, a year later, the Blood Moon descended once more.

On the night of the Blood Moon’s descent, despite the gravekeepers’ attempts to block them, the people remaining in Sirena went mad, rushing towards the Kingdom’s Great Cemetery, and even though the gravekeepers resorted to killing, they could not stop the frenzied crowd.

In this manner, thousands of living people broke into the Kingdom’s Great Cemetery, bathing in the light of the miracle.

Soon after, a crimson veil sealed the Kingdom’s Great Cemetery, and all the living who entered were granted eternal life as they wished.

However, this eternal life was slightly different from what they had imagined.

Bathed in the blood moonlight, people transformed into twisted monsters that killed and devoured each other, eventually merging into one, wandering the Kingdom’s Great Cemetery, enduring the so-called eternal punishment of immortality.

Including those nobles with their guards, housed in luxurious tomb chambers, none were spared.

When the crimson veil dissipated and the sun rose again, there were no living people left in the bloody cemetery, only splattered blood and scattered limbs everywhere.

After witnessing the scene in the Kingdom’s Great Cemetery, people no longer dared to wish for the Blood Moon to come and crave eternal life.

But inviting the divine is easy, sending them away is difficult. Even though people stopped wishing for the Blood Moon to come, it still appeared periodically, and during its appearance, if any unlucky person strayed into the Kingdom’s Great Cemetery, they would disappear forever in that cemetery.

Occasionally, a stray would walk out of the cemetery the next day, but would be found insane, incoherent and frantic.

Based on the unstructured babble of these mad survivors, it seemed they had encountered the legendary Mikhail I, who hadn’t died in the Blood Moon Eternal Life but had achieved true eternal life.

Han’er sighed, saying, ”That thing earlier, like a big tree, is one of the monstrous creations of the Blood Moon Miracle, their obsession in life driving them to continue yearning for the Blood Moon and craving eternal life.”

Wu Chang asked, ”How long has it been since the Blood Moon Eternal Life?”

Han’er answered, ”352 years.”

Wu Chang clicked his tongue, admitting that a miracle was indeed a miracle; after 352 years, the monsters that existed back then are still as lively as ever.

Although there is a slight discrepancy in understanding between the way eternal life was achieved versus the miracle and the monsters, you can’t simply say there is no eternal life.

”Then did we just witness the miracle by seeing the Blood Moon?” Wu Chang thought of the main task two, if seeing the Blood Moon counts as witnessing the miracle, wouldn’t that be too easy?

Han’er shook his head, ”Only those occurrences that trigger the incomprehensible, that only a God could accomplish, can be called a miracle. Only the moon on the night of the Blood Moon Eternal Life can be called a miracle, now the Blood Moon is merely the creation of a miracle.”

The two walked out from Tomb No. 44 and returned to the gravekeeper’s small hut.

Staying in the gravekeeper’s small hut, less than twenty square meters with only a single bed, Han’er spoke quite naturally:

”To ensure the Gravekeeper’s safety, the wooden cabin is made of special materials. Beneath it, a Holy Stone baptized by the Spirit Medicine Sect is buried. When the door is closed, the cabin itself forms a barrier strong enough to protect the Gravekeeper from most dangers.”

”However, the cabin is not big enough for the two of us, so I’ll head into the city for now. Contact me if you need anything.”

Wu Chang noticed Han’er trying to slip away and pointed to the outer room, saying, ”No need. You can continue staying in the bedroom, and I’ll be fine here.”

”The floor is very cold at night. Are you sure you want to sleep on it? Let me make it clear, my sexual orientation is quite normal. Even if you try some strange method to control me, I won’t let you into the room at night,” Han’er replied.

Wu Chang didn’t argue but instead took out more than a dozen Mystical Items from his personal space and began setting them up in the living room. Soon, a simple Inner World was established.

With a snap of his fingers, the two of them appeared inside the Inner World. The outer room of the wooden cabin expanded to three times its original size.

In the Midnight Graveyard Plane, time and space belong to the Power of God. Seeing Wu Chang manipulate space left Han’er in disbelief. He had already suspected something when he saw Wu Chang pull items out of thin air, but he hadn’t expected Wu Chang to create such a large space.

”Sean, my brother, was this your doing?”

Wu Chang snapped his fingers again, and with the scene editing function, the Inner World instantly transformed into his bedroom.

Seeing the elegant decoration that appeared out of nowhere, the glass light fixture that shone brightly without fire, and a huge, soft double bed, Han’er covered his cheeks with his hands, eyes wide, mouth agape.

To him, what Wu Chang accomplished could only be described as a miracle.

Han’er pressed down on the double bed, feeling an unprecedented sensation. He swallowed and looked at Wu Chang, saying:

”With such a big bed, it seems like there’s plenty of room for two. Sean, my brother, perhaps...”

”Get lost.” Wu Chang snorted coldly, tossing Han’er out of the Inner World.

Knock, knock, knock.

The connection between the Inner World and reality was marked by a knocking sound. Wu Chang left the Inner World and looked at Han’er, asking, ”Is there anything else?”

Han’er said, ”Sean, my brother, didn’t you mention wanting to know more about Sirena? Get up early tomorrow, and I’ll take you into the city to see Sirena’s largest religion, the Soul Light Sect.”

Wu Chang raised his eyebrows, ”No problem!”

Han’er’s tone shifted, ”Sean, my brother, could you make my bedroom like that as well?”

Wu Chang found a piece of paper and wrote down a list. ”If you can gather these items, I might consider it.”

After speaking, he returned to the Inner World’s bedroom and summoned Erin.

Once Erin appeared, there was no need for Wu Chang to explain. She closed her eyes and sensed the differences in just a moment.

”Mr. Sekos, is this the other world you mentioned?”

”I’m called Sean in this Plane; don’t get it wrong.”

”Mr. Sekos, you certainly have many names.”

Wu Chang told Erin everything that happened tonight and the parts that Han’er mentioned about the miracles.

Erin’s expression grew serious. She could feel that the people in this Plane were suffering, and the so-called miracles were not simple, beautiful things.

”Mr. Sean, what should we do now?”

Wu Chang awkwardly cleared his throat, ”Tomorrow morning, we’ll head into Sirena City District to investigate the Soul Light Sect’s details. As for now, we need to rest and get a good night’s sleep.”

”Ah?” Erin was stunned for a moment, looking at the only double bed in the Inner World, unsure how to respond.

Wu Chang, acting the perfect gentleman, drew a line in the middle of the bed, saying, ”Erin, don’t worry. We’ll each have half the bed, and I promise not to cross the line!”

Ten minutes later, as Erin gradually adapted to the situation, she suddenly realized something was wrong.

Everything in the Inner World was created by Wu Chang, so if he promised not to cross the line, why not turn the big double bed into two single beds?

”Mr. Sekos?”

Wu Chang: ”...”

”Mr. Sean?”

”...”

”Wu Chang.”

”Zzz...”

In the Outer World of the Inner World, Wu Chang was pretending to be asleep. In the inner room, Han’er lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling, unable to sleep.

He pulled out the necklace from under his shirt, looking at the ring hanging from it, his eyes filled with complex emotions.

Meanwhile, at Cemetery 43.

The death of the cannon resulted in a Gravekeeper’s absence at Cemetery 43. The Gravekeeper’s failure to return to the cabin on time made Cemetery 43 feel eerie.

Under the lingering glow of the Blood Moon, in Cemetery 43, many newly erected tombstones began to tremble. A not-yet-fully-decayed arm broke through the earth, grabbing its own tombstone.
