Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 147: Chapter 136: Eternal Life Tomb Chamber

”My name is Pasto. I came to the cemetery late at night to pick a suitable grave for an elder in my family.” Faced with Wu Chang’s gaze, the young man’s forehead began to sweat.

Clearly, he was supposed to be the Predator, the one to be feared, so why was he feeling nervous?

It must be that the temperature inside was too high, yes, that’s it.

He continued, ”I’ve been here several times this year. If the former Gravekeeper were here, he’d surely recognize me.”

Wu Chang asked, ”You’ve been picking for a year, has the elder just been left outside all this time?”

Pasto was taken aback, this was the first time he had heard someone ask such a presumptuous question.

”The elder in my family is still alive.”

Wu Chang realized, ”Then you should hurry, Plot 44 is a very popular model, highly sought after; come early to get it, come late and there’s none left.”

Pasto: ”...”

This Gravekeeper in front of him, does he not know how to talk like a human? What’s meant by ’hurry’, hurry to buy a plot, or hurry for someone to die?

Now’s not the time to lose his temper. Pasto held back his anger, maintaining his gentlemanly demeanor.

”I’ve come today to ask if you could take me around the cemetery. Of course, if you’re busy, I could look around myself.”

As he spoke, Pasto’s gaze slid to the Gravekeeper’s keys on the table.

He’d had enough of this guy in front of him. If it weren’t for needing a Gravekeeper to tag along, making his hunt easier, he’d have taken care of him long ago and gone in himself.

”Of course, not a problem!” Wu Chang warmly invited.

”Where I come from, there’s an old saying: ’Destiny first, luck second, Feng Shui third, merit fourth, and study last.’ When picking a grave for the elderly, you must find a place with good Feng Shui. I’ll make sure to choose a spacious plot for you, so your whole family can fit in without feeling crowded.”

Pasto’s mouth twitched slightly and said, ”Then let’s go.”

With the night watch time approaching, Wu Chang took the Gravekeeper’s oil lamp and picked up the cemetery keys, leading Pasto towards their destination.

Pasto looked at Erin, who was cloaked in a black robe and followed them. He asked, ”Who’s this?”

Wu Chang introduced, ”This is my wife. We aren’t originally from Sirena, and she didn’t feel comfortable with me working here alone, so she came along.”

Pasto hinted, ”I understand. It’s quite common these days.”

”Mr. Pasto, before coming to Plot 44, didn’t you look at other plots? The nearby cemeteries are also quite popular.” Wu Chang asked.

Pasto shook his head, ”No, I liked this number and decided on it early on.”

Wu Chang smiled, ”As long as you like it, that’s good.”

He glanced at the fresh grievances on Pasto, shaking his head. This Pasto really wasn’t honest. Clearly, before coming to Plot 44, he had gone to Plot 41 first.

Like telling a backup option they’re the only one for him, a real scoundrel.

His gaze fell on the two clusters of resentment on Pasto, where the images unfolded before him.

The owners of the resentment were the Gravekeepers of Plot 40 and Plot 41, who were among the first to introduce themselves after entering the game, lining up just behind the Cannon.

If he remembered correctly, their names were quite unique: Bun and Oil Stick.

The Great Sword Lolita was called Bun, and the Priest was called Oil Stick.

Bun and Oil Stick were Veterans, obviously more experienced than Cannon. When faced with the Blood Moon that appeared just as they entered the instance, the two chose to hide in the Gravekeeper’s wooden cabin last night, forfeiting a day’s tasks.

By coincidence, after the Blood Moon, they ran into the uninvited Pasto the next day.

The Gravekeeper’s notes stated that when faced with an uninvited malevolent guest without an invitation, just hiding in the Gravekeeper’s cabin would ensure safety until the next morning.

But the issue was, the main storyline required that failing to complete the Gravekeeper’s tasks for three consecutive days would be considered a failed main storyline.

If they hid for another day, they’d be out of leeway.

Reluctantly, Bun and Oil Stick, after a discussion, decided to set up an ambush for Pasto.

Bun would keep Pasto steady, while Oil Stick, from Plot 40, rushed over. If Pasto attacked Bun, or if Bun figured out Pasto’s background, they’d strike and take Pasto down.

If they couldn’t decipher Pasto’s background and he didn’t make a move, they’d act like nothing happened. After sending Pasto off, the two would go patrol Plot 40.

Pasto used the same excuse with Wu Chang, saying he was picking a cemetery for an elder in his family and insisted on having the Gravekeeper accompany him to find a suitable plot.

Bun and Pasto circled around Plot 41 for quite some time. When they passed a barren land, Pasto stopped.

He snatched the shovel from Bun’s hand and started digging furiously at a patch of empty ground.

Baozi couldn’t figure out Pasto’s intentions. He said we’d pick a spot, so why did he start digging? Maybe it’s a trial; if it doesn’t feel right, we’d switch spots? ℯℯ𝘭.

Since the situation was unclear, Baozi and Youtiao didn’t dare to act rashly and could only watch as Pasto dug a hole.

Pasto dug for about ten minutes. When the shovel hit the ground again, the sound that came up was no longer that of earth being moved, but the clinking of metal.

”Come over and help!” Pasto shouted.

Baozi found a shovel and started digging alongside Pasto. They quickly uncovered an entrance to a secret passage.

The entrance of the passage was made of metal, adorned with elaborate carvings, clearly marking it as the tomb of a noble family.

Who would’ve thought Pasto was a grave robber.

Seeing that they’d dug up something valuable, Baozi and Youtiao dropped their pretense; Youtiao stepped out from the shadows, ready to rob the robber.

To their surprise, Pasto opened the secret passage and went straight into the tomb.

Baozi and Youtiao had two choices: one was to find Lei Hu, gather their team to explore the tomb; the other was to work together to take down Pasto and keep the spoils for themselves.

The answer was obvious: keep the spoils for themselves.

Pasto sought them out, they bore the risk, and they set up the plot. At the end, when reaping the rewards, other players would interfere, and they’d have to give the biggest share to Lei Hu.

Who could stand that?

After a brief consideration, the two opened the secret door and followed him in.

The underground tomb was vast and lavishly decorated. It didn’t seem like a resting place for the dead, but more like a secret underground base for the living.

Fortunately, the layout of the tomb wasn’t complicated, and following the passage, they quickly reached the end.

At the end of the tomb, Pasto was prying open a coffin with a shovel. Just as they arrived, the last iron nail on the coffin was pried out.

The coffin lid was lifted, revealing the body of a noble inside.

Exposed to the air, the noble slowly opened his eyes, but the moment he did, it was like he’d been submerged in a mix of nuclear waste and strong acid.

The noble’s flesh began to rot and mutate rapidly, transforming into a horrifying, pus-filled monster.

Pasto communicated with the monster through some unknown method and reached an agreement, launching an attack on Baozi and Youtiao who had followed them into the tomb.

Pasto and the monster’s strength was not inferior to a tree demon, while Baozi and Youtiao were not as equipped as artillery. In the confined environment of the tomb, they found it difficult to dodge and had to confront them head-on.

After a few rounds, the two were taken down by Pasto and the monster.

As the scene in the grudge darkened, Wu Chang’s consciousness returned to reality.

He didn’t like players like Baozi and Youtiao, not because they overestimated themselves, but because he disliked how easygoing they were. Even before dying, they thought greed was to blame for their peril.

The resentment of two veterans, and not even one blood-colored will erupted out.

He sighed. With such a good mindset, they didn’t even give me motivation to avenge them.

He preferred those with strong hostility, who curse everything, who would scold the ground for half an hour after tripping over. When those players die, they definitely burst with deep red resentment.

Wu Chang shook his head, dismissing the irrelevant thoughts from his mind.

The tomb seen in the grudge should be the luxurious tomb built by those great nobles during the Blood Moon Eternal Life.

And the reason Pasto said that partnering with Erin was common when meeting them might just be because he recently encountered Baozi and Youtiao.

Common, is it? I’ll show you something uncommon soon.

Just like what happened in tomb 41, after circling most of the tomb, Pasto seemed to have discovered something, grabbed the shovel, and started digging on an open ground.

Without Pasto shouting for help, Wu Chang voluntarily fetched a shovel and joined in the digging.

”Mr. Pasto has a keen eye. This place is close to the mountains, with a small river just up ahead. Nestled against mountains and water, absolutely a prime location. If your family moves in, your descendants would definitely benefit!”

If Pasto wasn’t in a hurry to dig, he would’ve hit Wu Chang on the head with a shovel.

The hole was dug quickly; accompanied by the sound of metal clashing, an entrance to a secret passage appeared at the bottom of the hole.

Wu Chang exclaimed, ”Oh no, Mr. Pasto! The spot you want to bury has already been claimed. We have a rule in our park: no double-selling of plots. Would you like to find another location?”

Pasto, having had enough of Wu Chang, pried open the secret passage and charged in.

Wu Chang released a poisonous fog into the tomb passageway while saying to Erin, ”You saw it too, his intrusion is illegal. As the Gravekeeper, we have a duty to give him a solid beating on behalf of the owners. Don’t hold back later; if you see Pasto, remember to smash his face hard with a hammer.”
