The Fierce Farm Girl Has A Secret Space

Chapter 993: Chapter 993: The Beast is so Cheap (6)

Gai Datong’s brows furrowed, disbelief painting his gaze as he looked at Yang Ruxin. Had she really come here to haggle?

”Doctor Gai, let’s leave it at that. We’ll come back after the 15th,” Hao Jian hurriedly bowed respectfully, then signaled to Yang Ruxin that they could leave.

”But...” Yang Ruxin wanted to say more but was pulled away by Gu Qingheng.

”No, fatty Hao, don’t you value bargaining when shopping? How can it be that whatever he asks for is the final word? At least there should be some discount...” Yang Ruxin, still unwilling, complained as she was pulled into the courtyard.

”Don’t mind her; my sister hasn’t seen much of the world. She’s from the village, and money doesn’t come easy for her...” Fatty Hao quickly explained to Doctor Gai.

A flicker of contempt passed through Gai Datong’s eyes, and his initial wariness subsided significantly.

After leaving the pharmacy, Yang Ruxin finally ceased her muttering and handed a hundred silver notes to Hao Jian, preparing to part ways. However, Hao Jian would neither accept the silver nor leave. ”Sister Ruxin...”

Yang Ruxin frowned.

Focusing his attention on Gu Qingheng, Hao Jian rapidly shifted the subject. ”Brother-in-law Ruxin, I truly have reformed, but please let me borrow Xiaohei. Otherwise, not only will I lose silver, but face as well. I’ll be crushed by that beast...”

Gu Qingheng spread his hands, indicating his helplessness.

”Who is the beast?” Yang Ruxin asked casually.

”The beast’s surname is Qin. His father named him Qin Shou, hoping he’d live long,” Fatty Hao perked up upon hearing this. ”His family runs a grain shop just like ours, and his dad and mine have been rivals since they were young, all because they both fancied the same girl and fought over her. In the end, neither got her; she married someone in Beijing... Ever since then, our families have been competing. It continued with them comparing their wives, then their children. Beast and I were even born on the same day. Anyhow, that kid always wants to outdo me. If I eat two chicken legs, he’ll eat three. I couldn’t stand it. If he spends ten silver on a meal, I’d spend twenty...”

Yang Ruxin’s mouth twitched. These were just two hapless kids. Such a cheap-sounding name—typical of one asking for trouble.

”Anyway, if my dad hears I’m competing with the beast, he will support me wholeheartedly...” Hao Jian chuckled. ”His dad’s the same. Look, I have eight concubines, so his dad arranged for him to have nine...”

Yang Ruxin rolled her eyes, speechless. Both families’ elders were just as abnormal—a classic case of the fish stinking from the head down.

”Last year’s eagle fight ended in a tie, and then we bet that this year, whoever wins not only takes all the stakes but also makes the other guy pay ten thousand in silver and kneel down to bark like a dog...” Hao Jian sighed. ”I had someone arrange a few eagles, but none of them were good enough. His eagles were no good either, so at worst, we’d tie again. But a few days ago, that kid got his hands on a grey-feathered Great General that even defeated Jiang Shao’s white-feathered Great General...”

”Jiang Shao? You’re part of his group?”

”Not exactly, but we’re acquainted.” Hao Jian scratched his head. ”The Jiang family runs a brewery, and the three of us are known as the Three Young Masters of Baihua...”

Yang Ruxin burst into laughter.

”Heihei, Sister Ruxin, that white-feathered Great General of Jiang Shao was last year’s champion. Now...” Hao Jian smiled, then sighed again. ”If that grey-feathered Great General really wins, it’s not just about losing silver—the face and integrity of our Hao family will be completely gone...”
