The Fierce Farm Girl Has A Secret Space

Chapter 966: Chapter 966: Invitation (3)

”Shen Yilan?” Yang Ruxin frowned, then suddenly smacked her forehead, ”I totally forgot... Last time she stuffed an invitation into my hands, saying something about the Shen Family hosting a plum appreciation banquet or meeting, and asked me to go too, but...” but they had been delayed in the mountains for so long that she thought it had already ended.

”In spring there are spring feasts, in summer lotus appreciations, in autumn chrysanthemums and sweet osmanthus, and in winter snow and plum blossoms; these are the events that those ladies and madams love the most,” Gu Qingheng chuckled, ”However, the ultimate goal of these activities is nothing more than to show off their own children and, by the way, take a look at others’ children...”

Yang Ruxin nodded, ”It’s just a disguised form of matchmaking. Alas, those poor ladies and madams, it’s just that I really don’t understand what Shen Yilan wants with me; I’m not at all acquainted with her...”

”If you don’t want to go, then don’t.”

Yang Ruxin nodded, ”Let’s go back and see first.”

It was Shen Yilan’s first visit to the Yang Family’s residence. Before she arrived, she had heard about how capable Yang Ruxin was; building houses and starting businesses. But when she actually saw the red-roofed building in front of her, she was still shocked. So, she’s actually this wealthy, she thought, as jealousy bubbled up inside her like boiling water; however, she had to restrain herself because she wanted to make friends with her. She had come now to remind her to attend the plum appreciation gathering the next day.

Sanni let her into the sitting-room of the wing, the place where guests were received.

”Miss Shen.” Yang Ruxin had actually stood at the door for a moment before entering. Although she did not see everything, she still caught that unkind look in the other’s eyes and knew what was what; only then did she call out with a smile, ”Sorry to have kept you waiting.”

”Little sister Xinxin,” Shen Yilan immediately revealed an innocent, beautiful smile and stood up, coming over to take Yang Ruxin’s hand, ”I’ve wanted to come and play with you for a long time, but my family wouldn’t allow it... Today I finally got the chance to come out, so I’m here to remind you about the plum appreciation gathering tomorrow...”

”Sit down,” Yang Ruxin said, lifting her hand to signal and also avoiding the other’s touch, ”Miss Shen, to be honest, I really appreciate your kindness, it’s just...”

”Little sister Xinxin...” Shen Yilan pouted immediately, looking like the picture of aggrievement, ”My invitation was sincere, you know, I seldom have a chance to go out, and I don’t have many friends. Before, I had my elder sister to chat with, but now... Xinxin, do you look down on me?”

Yang Ruxin couldn’t help but hold her forehead; this was a typical white lotus act, but she couldn’t just offend the Shen Family outright, and this gave her a headache.

”Little sister Xinxin...” Shen Yilan pressed on, ”It’s just a gathering of ladies from a few families in the town...”

”Miss Shen, it’s not that I don’t want to go, but my mother is ill,” Yang Ruxin sighed, ”As her daughter, with such young siblings below me, I have to take care of them...”

”Your mother is ill?” Shen Yilan cried out in alarm, ”Is it serious? I...”

”It’s nothing, it’s nothing.” Yang Ruxin hastily waved her hand, ”She just needs to rest more; she’s probably asleep right now...”

”That’s good to hear.” Shen Yilan smiled, ”Look, the plum appreciation meeting is just a one-day affair. How about I send some servants over to help take care of your mother?”

Yang Ruxin knew that if she didn’t agree to go, this woman would probably keep pestering her, so she could only nod, ”Alright, I will make sure to go tomorrow.”
