The Fierce Farm Girl Has A Secret Space

Chapter 976: Chapter 976: Green Sepal Plum (1)

Soon, the Shen Family’s servants set up a table and the four treasures of the study on one side of the Warm Pavilion, and those girls who wanted to participate could go there to showcase their talents.

”Xinxin, are you going to take part?” Wei Yao seemed eager to try.

Yang Ruxin shook her head, ”I’m just a country girl, such elegant activities are not for me. You go ahead and give it your all.”

Wei Yao nodded and then got up and went over there.

”Miss Yang, are you going to paint?” At this moment, a lady in white approached, with a very pleasant voice.

Yang Ruxin looked up, then shook her head: ”I’m not participating.”

”Why not?” The lady in white was slightly surprised.

”I can’t do it,” Yang Ruxin said straightforwardly, spreading her hands.

The lady in white paused, then suddenly laughed: ”You really are... candid.”

”One should be honest,” Yang Ruxin shrugged.

”That’s true,” the lady in white nodded slightly, ”It’s just a pity that there aren’t many honest people around these days.”

Yang Ruxin smiled but did not comment.

”My name is Peng Mingzi,” the lady in white began to introduce herself, ”I’m from the Prefectural City.”

”I’m Yang Ruxin,” Yang Ruxin nodded, ”I’m from the countryside.” This girl looked like a well-bred young lady; her family must be quite decent. It was just unclear what relation she was to the Shen family.

”Cousin,” at this point, Shen Yilan came over, ”Why aren’t you composing poetry?” Then she looked at Yang Ruxin, ”Xinxin, why are you sitting here too?”

”The pastries are delicious,” Yang Ruxin pinched a piece of Plum Blossom Cake, ”Not only tasty but also pretty. Those cultured activities really aren’t for a village girl like me.”

”You’re too modest, I’ll pack a box of these pastries for you later so you can take them home and enjoy them at your leisure,” Shen Yilan laughed, ”After all, this is all in good fun. You can’t not participate in anything, right? But cousin, you’re a talented lady, you can’t keep hiding your light under a bushel...”

”Alright then,” Peng Mingzi nodded and then looked toward Yang Ruxin.

”When there’s a competition for eating, I’ll definitely participate,” Yang Ruxin waved her hand.

Peng Mingzi couldn’t help but laugh, then she went on to wave her brush and splatter ink.

”Xinxin, shall I accompany you for a walk? There are many plum blossoms in this courtyard, and there are quite a few rare varieties,” Shen Yilan suggested, ”From here, all you see are red plums, over there are apricot plums, and further on there are several Green Sepal Plums with green stamens, while over there are the Spilled Gold Plums, a tree of white blossoms with just a few red ones sprinkled among them...”

Yang Ruxin really didn’t know much about plums, though she had heard some names of plum trees. Her deepest impression was the Green Sepal Plum, remembered only because she had been infatuated with Jin Yong’s martial arts novels in the past; one character was named Gongsun Lü’e. She had searched the internet later, but had never actually seen one. So, hearing that there were Green Sepal Plums here, she was truly intrigued and stood up, ”Then I’ll trouble Miss Shen to show me around.”

The Plum Garden really was vast, and there were plum trees everywhere, some in full bloom, some budding, and even others with tiny closed buds...

In any case, within this courtyard, it seemed that no other plants were to be seen; as one walked, the scent of plums was the only thing filling the nostrils, a subtle fragrance everywhere.

”These plum trees over here have always been part of the courtyard, those red plums over there were planted later...” As they walked, Shen Yilan explained to Yang Ruxin, ”That red plum tree was actually planted by my sister and me when we were young...”
