The Fierce Farm Girl Has A Secret Space

Chapter 975: Chapter 975: Glass (6)

”Sure, I’ll find time to come play with you, or you can come to the Embroidery Store to find me, my home is right next to it...” Wei Yao got excited as soon as she heard that, ”I dare say that your thing will definitely make money.”

”You have good taste.” Yang Ruxin hadn’t originally intended to make money from this, but since someone was willing to collaborate, she wouldn’t refuse. After all, who would complain about having too much money?

As they talked, everyone entered the Warm Pavilion.

To Yang Ruxin’s surprise, the Warm Pavilion was actually surrounded by transparent glass.

Yang Ruxin was knowledgeable about glass. In fact, China had started producing glass as early as the Western Zhou period, but back then, it was mostly colored and known as ”Five-colored Stone.” By the Han Dynasty, the craftsmanship had become stable, but production techniques were controlled by a few nobles. For a long time, glass, referred to as ”liuli,” was so valuable that it could be priced similarly to gold.

However, China’s history with glass was intermittent. During the Song Dynasty, colorless glass already existed, but back then, only small pieces could be produced. It wasn’t until after the introduction from abroad that it started to be called glass, and only in the Qing Dynasty did large transparent glass sheets appear.

But now, the four walls of the Shen Family’s Warm Pavilion were all inlaid with people-high transparent glass, which couldn’t help but amaze her, and of course, she was happy. This meant that glass existed in this era, and if she could obtain some, the windows at home could do without paper coverings.

The other people were naturally marveling as well, it was obvious that everyone was seeing glass for the first time.

”Xinxin, the Shen Family really is wealthy.” Wei Yao whispered in Yang Ruxin’s ear, ”I’ve heard my father say that this transparent ’liuli’ is as expensive as gold, it comes from overseas and you need connections to get it...”

”Overseas?” Yang Ruxin’s eyes lit up.

Wei Yao nodded, ”Xinxin, do you want some?”

”Of course, I’d want it if I could buy some.” Yang Ruxin smiled, if she had known she would time travel, she would have studied chemistry properly back then. Then she could have made her own glass now, but alas, she could only think about it now, as she really didn’t know how.

”I can go back and ask my father about it for you.”

”Then thank you.”

”We’re friends, what’s there to be polite about?” Wei Yao waved her hand, not minding at all.

In the Warm Pavilion, a table had been set up, where a few madams took the head seats, and the rest could make themselves comfortable.

The maids quickly served plum blossom tea, plum blossom cake, plum blossom porridge, and such – everything revolved around the theme of plum blossoms.

”Since it’s a banquet, we can’t just sit around idly. We should have some fun.” After sitting down, Shen Jiashi smiled at the young ladies below, ”Since we are appreciating the plum blossoms, let’s use the plum blossoms as our theme. How about we write poetry first and then paint?”

Everyone naturally agreed.

These girls were the best talents in the town, and there were not a few who were skilled in all the arts, including music, chess, calligraphy, and painting.

”There should be a prize to make it interesting.” Ma Lushi said as she pulled a gold hairpin from her hair and laid it on the table, ”I’ll start.”

”I’ll follow suit,” Guo Tongshi quickly took off a red jade bracelet from her wrist.

Shen Jiashi placed a pair of jadeite earrings, and the two Aunts also placed two pieces of jewelry.

They were not too expensive, but they were not too shabby either, fitting for such a gathering.

The girls were mostly from moderately wealthy families, and such items were nice for them, so they were all quite interested.
