31: Chapter 31 A Fight to the DeathSun Xiaoliang looked up abruptly. ”You, you’re willing to give me a chance?”

Han Jingyang smiled. ”That depends on your attitude.”

Sun Xiaoliang’s expression became complex, shifting many times in just a few seconds, before he finally looked up resolutely. ”Mr. Han, I beg you, save me.”

”Save you?”

”I want to take back everything that belongs to me. As long as I can get it back, I’m willing to give you half of my family assets.”

”Is this your attitude?”

Sun Xiaoliang gritted his teeth, knelt on the ground, and endured the sharp pain shooting from his arm as he began to kowtow. After more than a dozen times, he looked up. ”Mr. Han, I beg you. What I did before was wrong. I sincerely apologize. I only ask that Mr. Han help me recover my money and pull me out of this quagmire.”

Han Jingyang smiled.

Seeing this, Sun Xiaoliang was overjoyed, thinking Han Jingyang had agreed.

But Han Jingyang leaned into Sun Xiaoliang’s ear and whispered, ”Sorry, I refuse. Your so-called family assets are worthless in my eyes. If I wanted to make money, I could earn many, many times your family assets at any moment. And do you know? The loss you’ve caused me already exceeds your family assets. Even if you gave me all fourteen million of yours, it wouldn’t make up for my loss.”

Sun Xiaoliang was shocked. ”How is that possible?”

”Impossible?” Han Jingyang took out the shattered Peony Fairy plaque. ”Do you know what this is?”

”A jade plaque.”

”No, this is a dharma instrument, an amulet. It saved my life. If it weren’t for it, you would have actually succeeded.”

”Ah?”

”Just because of your actions, I lost such an extremely precious dharma instrument. Tell me, what will you use to compensate me? That half of your family assets you promised?”

Sun Xiaoliang hurriedly begged, ”All of it, my entire family assets, including my villa. Oh right, also my mother’s apartment and my father’s storefront—”

”It’s too late,” Han Jingyang interrupted Sun Xiaoliang. ”I gave you a chance before; you were the one who didn’t cherish it.”

After saying this, he stood up and walked away.

Sun Xiaoliang panicked, grabbed Han Jingyang’s calf, and wept bitterly. ”Mr. Han, Brother Han, Lord Han, I really know I was wrong. I beg you, save me...”

Han Jingyang smiled and squatted down. ”Do you really want to get out of your current predicament?”

Sun Xiaoliang nodded hurriedly.

”There’s a simple way, but you’ll have to suffer a bit.”

”I’m not afraid of suffering.”

”Very good. Later, honestly confess all your criminal activities. You shouldn’t be sentenced to death. If you spend a few years inside, you can use the chilling aura of the prison to suppress and wear away the bad luck on you. A few years later, you’ll come out a new man. Don’t you think?”

”This...”

”If you don’t do this, you won’t be far from death.” Han Jingyang smiled and pointed to Sun Xiaoliang’s re-broken arm. ”How many times have you fractured a bone in the last few days? If you keep messing around like this, ten lives won’t be enough to squander. I’ve said all I have to say; you decide for yourself.”

As he spoke, he patted Sun Xiaoliang’s shoulder. ”I’m telling you this not because of you, but out of respect for Old Sun. It’s up to you how you proceed, but don’t blame me for not warning you—this matter isn’t over. If you manage to escape imprisonment, then it’s a fight to the death between us. Just because you didn’t kill me doesn’t mean we aren’t mortal enemies. The moment you hired someone to kill me, it was destined that we would fight to the death.”

Sun Xiaoliang’s heart went completely cold, but he still asked unwillingly, ”Then why would you point out a way to break it?”

Han Jingyang returned to the shop without looking back. ”Thank your lucky stars you have a good father. He has a bit of goodwill with me.”

Saying all that was actually just bullshit.

There was only one purpose—to stall for time.

He needed time to cast a skill.

Returning to the shop, he put away a jade plaque he had been holding in his hand the whole time.

”Name: Yuan Zhishun Era Xiu Jade Carved Maid Figurine.”

”Grade: Seventh Grade.”

”Attribute: Health -2.”

”Skill: Nightmare Possession.”

He had just acquired this yesterday, spending only 138.

It hadn’t even warmed up in his hand before it came in handy.

One could only say that Sun Xiaoliang’s luck was unusually terrible.

He didn’t know how long this skill would last, but as long as Sun Xiaoliang was in prison, he would never have the chance to get rid of the skill’s effect. The prison staff wouldn’t allow Sun Xiaoliang to seek out an expert to break it.

At most, after Sun Xiaoliang’s mental state truly deteriorated, they would send him to a mental hospital for treatment.

If this kind of torment continued for a period of time, even a perfectly healthy person would be driven insane.

He wanted Sun Xiaoliang to endure torture and suffering that ordinary people could not comprehend.

Of course, this wasn’t the end. After Sun Xiaoliang had endured all the torture, he would definitely have other packages to offer.

The four words ”fight to the death” were not just empty talk.

He meant what he said.

He had such a disposition, and even more so, such strength.

Otherwise, it would be him having nightmares every day.

...

The police officers near the market arrived quickly.

Han Jingyang and Liu Jing cooperated with the questioning as victims, gave their statements, left their contact information, and then came out.

The whole street was full of surveillance cameras, and the evidence was conclusive; there was no need for an investigation.

One of the police officers even teased Liu Jing, ”I’ve seen plenty of martial artists, but you’re the first one like this. Too fierce, just like Lord Guan, one slash for each.”

Liu Jing didn’t answer because she didn’t know what happened either. She had fought in a daze, as if she had been possessed by a deity, as in the legends.

But she had never practiced those things.

However, the police officer’s remark about her being ”like Lord Guan” reminded her of the statue of guan gong she had personally placed into the shrine that afternoon.

This association made her subconsciously glance at the calm and composed Han Jingyang. When she met Han Jingyang’s gaze, she quickly looked away.

On the way back, Liu Jing asked in a low voice, ”Boss, that statue of guan gong...”

”How does it feel?”

”It was amazing,” Liu Jing instantly became excited. ”I had infinite strength and sharp moves. When I watched the recording, I couldn’t believe it was me. Boss, that feeling was really, really magical. How did you do it?”

”Are there any uncomfortable parts?”

”No, there was nothing unusual after it ended, as if nothing had happened.”

”Don’t be careless. Go back and get some good rest.”

”Boss, when can you let me experience that again?”

”Do you think this is playing house?”

”Hehe, seriously, are there really gods? Was it Lord Guan possessing me, or some divine fist?”

”That remains to be studied; I’m still exploring it myself.”

”Ah?”

”Metaphysics is also a way to explore and understand this world. In the face of the world, a metaphysics practitioner like me is just an elementary school student; I know very little.”

”Boss is so humble,” Liu Jing’s eyes were full of admiration. ”Oh right, Boss, just now in the shop, I heard the conversation between you and that Sun guy. He wanted to kill, kill you?”

”Yes, I’m lucky. I destroyed a dharma instrument to save my life; otherwise, he really would have succeeded.”

Liu Jing was both angry and scared. ”How can this person be so evil—”

Han Jingyang smiled. ”The world is big, but the human heart is even bigger. Driven by human nature, people can do anything. Not to mention abroad, even domestically, there are plenty of dark corners that are suffocating and desperate.”

Liu Jing’s long eyelashes fluttered twice, and she sighed. ”Forget it, I’m still interested in your dharma instruments, Boss. Boss, these dharma instruments are expensive, right? Does your employee get an internal discount?”
