Urban Divine Doctor Descends the Mountain

Chapter 344: Chapter 344: The First Round of Medical Competition

Wang Xiuxin ultimately still kowtowed.

Additionally, Elder Wang announced, ”From this day forward, Wang family descendant Wang Xiuxin is forbidden from entering the medical profession. He shall never be allowed to treat the sick for the rest of his life!”

What!

As soon as these words were spoken, they caused another commotion.

”This... This Little Medical Sage, is he now forever banned from practicing medicine?”

”Isn’t this punishment a bit too harsh?”

”Harsh? If Elder Wang hadn’t done this, the practitioners of Southern Faction Traditional Chinese Medicine could truly hold him accountable and could definitely charge Wang Xiuxin with defamation. That could land him in prison!”

”By doing this, Elder Wang is actually protecting him. With this decision, the Southern Faction Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners have nothing more to say. He has escaped the disaster of imprisonment.”

”It’s just a pity his medical arts; the esteemed Little Medical Sage will no longer be able to practice medicine ever again.”

”...”

Wang Xiuxin’s complexion was exceedingly pale, yet clenching his teeth, he had nothing to say.

He understood this well, which is why, no matter how humiliated he was just now, he still kowtowed.７

Xu Ying kept crying out, ”Elder Wang, isn’t the punishment you’re imposing too severe? Brother Xiuxin has such great medical skill, and has always seen you as a role model. His lifelong dream has been to surpass you in medical arts... Now that you announce he’s prohibited from practicing medicine, it’s almost no different from sentencing him to death, ah.”

Elder Wang hmphed and paid no heed to her.

Instead, he looked at Wang Xiuxin and said in a deep voice, ”Do you feel this is unjust?”

Wang Xiuxin, with his head lowered, replied, ”I accept.”

Elder Wang shook his head in disappointment and then turned towards the Five Elders of the Southern Faction Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners and towards Lin Dong, saying with a clasping of his hands:

”Gentlemen, could you forgive my grandson from the disaster of prison using the honor of my entire life as Elder Wang? Shall we conclude this matter with his kowtowing and apology to all of you, as well as the restricting of his future role as a doctor?”

Hearing this, Wang Xiuxin clenched his fists tighter and lowered his head even more.

The Southern Faction Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners were likewise moved by Elder Wang’s action.

The Five Elders looked at each other and then all turned their gaze toward Lin Dong.

”Leader, shall we proceed as Elder Wang suggests?”

Lin Dong nodded, ”Then, in consideration of Elder Wang, let this matter come to an end.”

The top Chinese medicine practitioner in Dragon Country had staked his lifetime of honor. If Lin Dong opposed, it probably wouldn’t matter.

Moreover, he had truly acted with impartiality, and the punishment for Wang Xiuxin was already quite severe.

A strict ban from practicing medicine in the future, this punishment, for Lin Dong, had already achieved his objective.

Elder Wang, seeing Lin Dong relent, also nodded slightly.

At that moment he addressed Lin Dong with a bow, ”Doctor Lin Dong, so young and yet so magnanimous, already displaying the manner of a great family. My unworthy grandson is not your equal, ah.”

Lin Dong politely responded, ”You flatter me too much, Elder Wang.”

Elder Wang then said, ”Although an incident like this has occurred, I believe the medical competition today should still proceed. What do you guys think?”

He looked toward Lin Dong and the Southern Faction Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners.

Lin Dong and the others all nodded in agreement.

”Of course.”

”Alright! Since Wang Xiuxin has been banned from practicing medicine and removed from our ranks as a Northern Faction’s Chinese Medicine doctor, his qualifying spot in the competition will be taken over by another one of my disciples.”

”This is my newly accepted disciple from last year, Gu Lingjun. Next, he will represent the younger generation of the Northern Faction in this Medical Competition!”

The Medical Competition between the Southern and Northern Factions was divided into two rounds.

One round involved the younger generations of doctors from both sides, with each faction putting forward a young Chinese medicine doctor to compete.

The other round was for the older generation.

Initially, Wang Xiuxin was the representative for the younger generation’s competition, but now he was obviously unable to compete.

When Elder Wang announced the name Gu Lingjun, everyone followed his gaze to see a young man dressed in Han robes standing behind him.

The youth seemed about twenty-seven or twenty-eight years old and possessed an extraordinary demeanor.

As Lin Dong looked over at him, he also noticed a familiar face.

”Hey, Lin Dong, surprised? Remember me?”

The familiar person took the initiative to greet Lin Dong at that moment; naturally, Lin Dong still recognized her—she was Gu Lingfei, the campus beauty from Southern Capital’s University of Medicine.

Lin Dong nodded slightly, as a form of greeting to her.

Gu Lingfei continued, ”This is my brother. Although not as well-known as Wang Xiuxin, his medical skill is certainly not inferior.”

At this moment, Elder Wang also spoke, ”Ling Jun is my closed door disciple, he is modest and dedicates himself entirely to studying medicine. His talent in the medicinal field is no less than that of my wayward grandson, Wang Xiuxin!”

”From now on, he will be the number one among the younger generation of the Northern Faction...”

Elder Wang introduced Gu Lingjun.

And upon hearing this, everyone became immensely curious about him.

”Elder Wang never speaks frivolously; since he has said that Gu Lingjun’s talent in the medicinal field is not inferior to Wang Xiuxin, then it must be true.”

”The Northern Faction’s Chinese Medicine School really does have a deep cultural foundation, ah. Even though Wang Xiuxin had an accident and couldn’t participate in the Medical Competition, they now have Gu Lingjun who is not weaker than him. Can the Southern Faction withstand this?”

”It’s said that Lin Dong will compete on behalf of the younger generation of the Southern Faction. Can he win against Gu Lingjun?”

”It sounds doubtful!”

”...”

Everyone buzzed with speculation, though the matter of Lin Dong’s association with the death was past and unrelated to him.

Yet, they still harbored doubts about Lin Dong.

”At the age of twenty, how skilled could his medical arts be? Does he truly deserve the title of leader of the Southern faction? This Medical Competition will certainly expose his true level!”

That was the shared sentiment of everyone.

And amidst doubts, the first round of the Medical Competition between the Southern and Northern Factions officially began.
