The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

After Jiang An’s analysis, everyone felt much more relieved.

The direction for sorting through these 1006 case files became very clear.

Qin Feng pressed the cigarette butt into the ashtray, then said, ”As Mr. Jiang has clearly stated, our next target is those cases with incomplete corpses, especially those with only a skull and perineum, or even just a skull bone and pubic bone. These will be our primary focus moving forward.”

After he finished speaking, the officers nodded one after another.

Everyone took a deep breath, as this significantly reduced the number of case files.

Soon, everyone got to work. At this moment, it was late at night, and the entire police station was in darkness, with only the criminal investigation team’s floor brightly lit.

Jiang An wasn’t idle here either; he participated as well.

In less than two hours, all the case files were sorted through.

Qin Feng spoke, ”From the 1006 case files, only 10 meet this condition after our sorting. These 10 cases occurred within the last two years, mostly involving white bone autopsies, with some only having teeth and the pubic symphysis.”

Saying this, he handed the 10 case files to Jiang An and said, ”Mr. Jiang, please review these carefully.”

Jiang An took the case files, glanced at the titles, and quickly began flipping through them one by one.

However, when he reached the third case file, he was deeply drawn to a brief case summary.

At 5:30 a.m., a report was received from the public about a fire at the village clinic, with fierce flames burning.

After villagers made great efforts to extinguish the fire, they found a skull and some fragments of bones inside.

Upon investigation, it was found that the deceased was likely Li Ailing, the wife of the village clinic director, Zhang Xiang.

Seeing him linger over this case file, Qin Feng suddenly came over and asked, ”Why, is there a problem with this case?”

Jiang An nodded lightly and said, ”This case involved a fire, and it seems to have been very thorough.”

”Oh! I remember clearly, I was training at the local police station when the call came in.”

Qin Feng, recounting the situation, still vividly remembered it.

At this moment, a young officer suddenly spoke up: ”This seems different from our earlier analysis, as this case doesn’t involve any financial dispute, and the deceased was a nurse at the village clinic, so there shouldn’t have been any issues, right?”

With these words, two other officers joined the discussion.

One officer said, ”Mr. Qin, the ninth case file involves an insurance claim, and it too was burned down to just the skull and bits of bone, deduced from the pubic symphysis. I think there might be insurance fraud involved in this case.”

Hearing this, both Qin Feng and Jiang An turned their attention to the ninth case file.

The case file clearly stated it was an explosion at a fireworks shop, with the boss’s wife selling fireworks inside and being killed in the explosion, and another person also dying.

Due to the special nature of the business, the deceased had purchased personal insurance.

After briefly browsing through the information, Qin Feng turned and said, ”Mr. Jiang, you see, there’s an insurance claim involved here, and it’s quite a sum. It also involves skeletal fragments, primarily just the skull, and I believe there was no DNA identification conducted. We need to prioritize this case for investigation.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Jiang An took that case file and looked it over.

Indeed, the information in the case aligned with their earlier analysis.

But still, it was a fireworks shop—does it match our hypothesis? That’s not entirely certain at this point.

Following this, Jiang An once again focused on the case of the village clinic fire,

because here, he saw there were merely slight remains of skull, teeth, and perineum; everything else was gone.

Seeing this, Qin Feng said, ”I remember clearly, the village clinic had a lot of alcohol, which might have served as a major accelerant, speeding up the burning process.”

”Oh, alcohol? You mean alcohol could be that powerful?” Jiang An asked.

”You have no idea. Conditions were very harsh. The village clinic and the duty room were in the same place, with one bed inside and some medical supplies outside.

And among these supplies, there was a lot of alcohol, as rural areas couldn’t handle major surgeries, just routine disinfections.

So, it was mainly disinfectant alcohol, cotton balls, things like that.

There was also gauze, which is highly flammable, and the site was badly burned.

The skull of the deceased was partially intact with teeth, but most was burned to char.

Moreover, the incident occurred in the northernmost part of the village, a more secluded area, so it was unclear when it started burning or for how long it had been burning before being discovered.”

Despite hearing all this, Jiang An didn’t dwell too much on it. He immediately opened the case photos to have a look and found the first photo showing a rural mud house with collapsed beams and debris scattered everywhere.
