The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

As Jiang An’s speech concluded, a low murmur of discussion gradually arose in the hall.

Unlike before, this time everyone was talking while nodding in agreement, their expressions revealing recognition and appreciation for what Jiang An had just said.

Director Hou took in the scene completely.

He slightly turned, his gaze passing over Mr. Chen and Jiang An, and then spoke: ”Since everyone is discussing so enthusiastically, I’ll also say a few words briefly.”

”Jiang An’s analysis just now was very thorough, organized, and clear with distinct viewpoints, providing important ideas for our upcoming work.”

”Especially regarding the situation of this morning’s autopsy—I was present throughout the process.”

”Not only did our colleagues from the public security system fully participate in this examination, but we also specially invited Professor Zhang Kai, an expert in forensic pathology from the medical college, to join.”

”It can be said that the entire process of re-examining the body was scientific, rigorous, and transparent.”

He paused slightly, his tone becoming steadier: ”I observed that Professor Zhang Kai initially had reservations, even carrying doubts during the early stages of the examination.”

”But as the examination progressed step by step, especially when critical evidence gradually emerged, his attitude underwent a clear transformation, ultimately completely endorsing Jiang An’s conclusion of ’respiratory and circulatory center failure caused by neck vertebrae traction.’

At this point, Director Hou slightly turned and glanced in Jiang An’s direction with commendation in his eyes, then continued facing the audience: ”In the field of forensic expertise, most of us here—including myself—can only be considered ’outsiders.’”

”Regarding the highly specialized reasoning process and the connection of the evidence chain, we may not be able to deeply understand every detail.”

”But Professor Zhang Kai is different; he is a recognized authority in the industry, having students all over the world, and has been engaged in forensic examination and identification work for nearly twenty-five years without ever making an error in identification throughout his career.”

”Even such an experienced expert openly admitted to having ’lost once’ in the identification of Li Yong’s cause of death.”

”What does this indicate? It indicates that certain discoveries in this case indeed surpassed the scope of conventional experience, which also highlights Jiang An’s acuity and persistence in professionalism.”

He somewhat slowed his speech, ”As for why Professor Zhang Kai initially doubted and ultimately what specific evidence led him to trust the conclusions, it involves a vast amount of professional detail, which I won’t elaborate on here.”

”But it can be assured that the final conclusion withstands scrutiny, built on the foundation of objective evidence and scientific analysis.”

Finally, Director Hou slowly wrapped up his speech, his expression solemn: ”Therefore, synthesizing on-site investigation, autopsy, and expert opinion, we can presently form a clear judgment: The true cause of Li Yong’s death was not as commonly presumed—resulting from myocardial infarction induced by coronary artery sclerosis—but due to neck spinal cord traction causing respiratory central circulatory failure.”

”This point must become a clear consensus among all of us present.”

As Director Hou carefully elaborated on this analysis, sitting nearby, Chief Qin and Mr. Chen appeared particularly grave.

The two did not say much more, yet they both simultaneously opened their notebooks and began recording word by word.

While writing, they nodded slightly, their focused and meticulous demeanor akin to students in a classroom attentively listening to a teacher analyzing errors—reflecting both introspection and understanding.

At this moment, Director Hou noticed the generally low emotions of everyone attending, so he refrained from making deeper criticisms or remarks.

He understood that in this case, no one wishes for a mistaken judgment. Everyone is determined to solve the case, yearning to unveil the truth—this feeling, he deeply empathizes with.

Thus, he turned his position to the right towards Mr. Chen and spoke calmly: ”Mr. Chen, for now, I’ll just discuss these, and for subsequent work arrangements, please coordinate.”

Mr. Chen initially intended to be modest, but Director Hou gently waved, indicating that it was more appropriate to return the leadership to the overseeing officials.

Although he came as a superior to guide the case, he always adhered to propriety, never overshadowing others, preferring to leave ample room for colleagues working alongside.

Mr. Chen understood, raised his hand to lightly tap the microphone in front of him, and spoke deeply: ”Comrades, earlier Director Hou and Mr. Jiang conducted a comprehensive and thorough analysis and reasoning of the Li Yong death case.”

”I completely agree with this.”

”Especially regarding the identification of neck injuries and the professional judgment of neck spinal cord hemorrhage status, I have strong faith in Mr. Jiang’s professional capability and meticulous attitude.”

At this point, he paused for a moment, took a deep breath, ”To this day, although the case has been ongoing for six months, it wasn’t until today’s analysis that I truly saw the full picture of the case.”

”Earlier, all the comrades devoted tremendous efforts and exerted substantial effort, yet the results were unsatisfactory.”

He then looked around the entire hall, his gaze sweeping over row after row of bowed heads.

The conference room was filled with low pressure, enveloped in an aura of defeat and suppression, with the morale of everyone plunging to its lowest.

Mr. Chen, having climbed the administrative frontline for years, deeply understands the path of team management.

He knows that morale is the soul of a team, and is the internal drive for all work to unfold.

If morale collapses, no matter how clear the instructions or how meticulous the arrangements, execution would suffer greatly.

Hence he cleared his throat, straightened his back suddenly, and his voice rose sharply, ”Comrades, now is not the time for us to bow our heads and reflect, to close the door for reviewing errors and summarizing lessons.”
