The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Ten minutes later, all the photos from the scene investigation, autopsy pictures, and the photos of various criminal investigators at the time were all reviewed.

As everyone looked at these photos, they recalled bits and pieces of the investigation from back then.

Some people’s faces showed a sense of nostalgia for the glorious past, while others expressed the regrets of the time.

After spending so much time on the case, it’s a real pity that it wasn’t solved, leaving some people just shaking their heads helplessly.

After a long while, Deputy Director Chen Guan spoke up, starting with an opening line: ”I didn’t expect it; back then we were all so young. See, I had jet-black hair, and now it’s already gray.”

Then he continued, ”To all the senior fellows and veterans here, you all put a lot of effort into this case back then, and I believe that effort was not in vain; it was all meaningful.”

As he spoke, his gaze lowered slightly, looking at the case file on the desk.

This case file had undergone multiple reviews and investigations by the task force but never truly uncovered or understood the case.

”However, the efforts of the past have not been wasted. Today, taking this opportunity, we have all gathered together, aiming to reignite the case, examine and discuss it once more,;

And also hoping that everyone can propose some new ideas and insights, given that everyone has put significant effort into this case before.”

Immediately, he said, ”So, everyone, please feel free to speak and share your thoughts.”

As his words ended, the row of old detectives opposite him glanced at each other and started whispering among themselves.

Suddenly, one of the older detectives, with noticeably graying hair, spoke up: ”Mr. Chen, I was the deputy captain of the Criminal Investigation Team back then for this case, and I’m most familiar with the situation.

After the incident, we repeatedly researched and discussed but still couldn’t find any valuable clues.”

”But we still put a lot into it. I remember going a week without sleep trying to crack this case, nearly fainting at my post from a racing heart.

We investigated several nearby counties but found no missing persons that fit the profile, leaving us unable to understand where this deceased person came from.

We conducted a comprehensive local investigation but still found no suspicious individuals.”

These words seemed to open the floodgates, as several other seasoned officers began to speak up.

”That’s right, I remember we searched for body parts surrounding the area and still found nothing.

We even brought in city and provincial police dogs to assist in the search but all to no avail...”

At this moment, another experienced officer spoke up: ”Back then, we went door-to-door for those within a 20-kilometer radius, yet no one reported seeing any suspicious folks ascending the mountain during the time of the incident.”

”Surveillance wasn’t as advanced as it is today, leaving us primarily at the most primitive stage of visits and inquiries.”

”So, currently, I feel the longer this case drags on, the trickier it becomes.”

When these three old officers finished speaking, Deputy Director Chen Guan nodded, recording their remarks.

Then, looking at his watch, he realized it wasn’t early anymore and spoke up: ”Just now, several senior fellows, who were also my previous leaders, made excellent points.”

”Indeed, everyone put in great effort back then, with hopes pinned entirely on solving the case.”

”So today, we’ve specially invited two criminal investigation experts from the provincial office to provide guidance on the case.”

”Next, we are about to initiate the seventh investigation into this case, with the purpose of establishing a task force.”

”The head of the task force is Director Hou, the executive deputy head is Jiang An, and I am the deputy head.”

As he spoke, he turned to Director Hou and said: ”Director Hou, how do you find this arrangement?”

Listening to this, Director Hou furrowed his brows: ”I think this arrangement is fine, but the investigation of this case will still require your support.”

Speaking, Director Hou turned to look at Jiang An: ”Mr. Jiang, what do you think?”

Suddenly, Jiang An felt overwhelming pressure.

Generally, the head is responsible for coordination, while the executive deputy head handles specific tasks.

Originally, he wanted to decline, but now wasn’t the moment for that.

Crucially, he genuinely wanted to solve the case.

The case had been unsolved for such a long time; the long duration posed a challenge for him, but Jiang An enjoyed such challenges.

Perhaps driven by a detective’s instinct to solve cases, he wanted to thoroughly uncover it.

Seeing everyone’s response, Deputy Director Chen Guan spoke again: ”In that case, let’s settle it as such.”

”I know some of the old mates across the way are watching over their grandchildren, picking up students, or caring for their elderly spouses, but regardless, I sincerely invite all you veterans to, with the honor of us all once wearing detective uniforms, contribute ideas to our seventh task force for this case, enhancing the level of its investigation.”
