The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

”Don’t worry, it’s all arranged for you!”

Qin Feng picked up the conversation. ”I’m waiting for you guys in the hotel lobby on the first floor. Come down and have some breakfast, let’s eat something warm to nourish our stomachs.”

Jiang An glanced up at the clock. ”It’s already ten o’clock. We might as well just call it lunch.”

”Doesn’t matter. Everyone drank their fill last night, getting up late is normal. I’ll drive you to an old local place. Their millet porridge is top‑notch—warms the stomach and feels great, perfect for sobering up.”

”What about Director Hou? Is He awake?”

”I just called Him. He’s about the same as you—also woken up by the phone and still not fully awake.” Qin Feng said, then laughed again. ”Didn’t expect someone who can hold his liquor like Director Hou to get taken down by us last night.”

”Director Hou really can drink usually. Looks like even He couldn’t handle your relay attack.” Jiang An shook his head, a teasing tone in his voice.

”It’s fine. Once this case is completely cracked, we’ll have another proper get‑together. And then we definitely won’t go home till we’re drunk again!”

”No, no, no,” Jiang An quickly cut in with a laugh. ”If we have to drink like that every time we solve a case, I’d rather we solve them a bit slower. My life’s more important.”

Jiang An smiled, then said, ”Mr. Qin, please wait for me a bit. I’ll get up and wash right away and head down to the first floor to meet you.”

”All right, no problem, I’ll wait for you on the first floor.”

Fifteen minutes later, Jiang An and Director Hou happened to step out from the elevators on the left and right at the same time.

After coming out, the two of them exchanged a look and both shook their heads helplessly. They’d been too drunk last night.

In the end, they’d almost blacked out completely. If they hadn’t been brought back, the two of them would probably have ended up sleeping on the street.

Director Hou smiled and said, ”Mr. Jiang, they were too enthusiastic last night. I’m guessing with this case, we’re definitely going to have to put in some real effort, haha.”

Jiang An smiled and said, ”I figure even if we hadn’t drunk last night, we’d be putting in effort on the case anyway. Of course, trust us—this time we’ll definitely innovate again, push hard again, work harder again, and strive to find a bigger breakthrough.”

The two of them chatted as they walked over to Qin Feng. Seeing their smiling faces, Qin Feng said, ”Haha, see, I told you the two big brothers haven’t drunk enough. Look at you, still all smiles when you come out.”

”We’ve drunk plenty, definitely plenty. I was just telling Mr. Jiang, with good wine and good food last night, plus good brothers for company, then today we have to take this case down. We’ve got to make some new discoveries and push this case forward.”

Hearing this, Qin Feng immediately got excited and said quickly, ”Ah, Director Hou, this is a pleasant surprise. We originally just wanted you to come over and give us some guidance, but I didn’t expect you to give us such huge confidence. With what you just said, I feel we absolutely have more than enough confidence in handling this case, haha.”

Hearing this, Jiang An and Director Hou exchanged a glance and could only give wry smiles.

”Mr. Qin, we were just joking earlier. It’s still uncertain whether we can crack it. And this case has already gone through repeated investigations by your side in the early stages. I think the chances of solving it now aren’t very big.”

”For us it’s very confusing, but for Mr. Jiang it’s different. With Mr. Jiang here, I have absolute confidence in this case.”

Hearing this, Jiang An gave a wry smile and waved his hand, looking slightly helpless. ”Mr. Qin, please don’t put me on a pedestal.

Once that kind of ’tall hat’ is on your head, it’s not easy to take off.

Besides, the greater the hope, the greater the disappointment tends to be. All we can guarantee is that we’ll give it everything we’ve got, do our utmost, and get done what needs to be done.”

When he finished, he casually straightened his jacket, turned and gestured. ”All right, we should get moving. My car’s parked just outside the door. Come with me.”

”You’re driving your own car?”

Before the words had fully left his mouth, a black BMW had already pulled up slowly at the entrance.

”Mr. Qin, this really is ’using a private car for public business’! For official work, you’re even contributing your own car.”

Qin Feng opened the car door as he laughed and shook his head. ”Can’t help it, it’s for work.

Besides, isn’t today about welcoming you two distinguished guests? If it were someone else, I might really be reluctant to take this car out! Haha...”

”All right, then today we’ll just ride your coattails and sit in a BMW for breakfast!” The two of them got into the car, still laughing.

Ten minutes later, the car drove into the East District and stopped in front of a breakfast shop.

Even though it was already close to ten in the morning, the entrance was still bustling, with an endless stream of people lining up.

Director Hou stuck his head out to look and couldn’t help being a little surprised. ”This... what kind of breakfast place is this? A porridge shop doing business this well?”

”That’s what you don’t know,” Qin Feng said, closing the car door and introducing as he walked, ”this place is something else. They’re open from early morning straight through to night and sell over a thousand bowls of porridge a day.”

”That impressive?”

”Yeah. They’ve got a huge variety—century egg and lean pork congee, purple rice porridge, sweet potato porridge, corn porridge... you name it. Lots of people who entertain a lot, after drinking at night, will come here specially the next morning for a bowl of porridge to take care of their stomach.”

After hearing that, Director Hou laughed. ”You Guangling People really take health maintenance seriously. Drinking at night, porridge in the morning—you’ve got the whole routine down!”

Joking as they talked, the few of them walked into the shop.

The lady boss recognized Qin Feng at a glance and hurried over to greet him. ”Mr. Qin, how come you’re only coming at this hour today? Same old spot?”
