The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Deputy Director Qin Feng even found himself thinking privately that this gentle-looking female reporter had raised a question from a truly formidable angle.

However, faced with this sharp, cleverly framed question, Jiang An remained calm, without the slightest ripple in his expression.

He first gave the microphone a light tap to make sure his voice would come through clearly, then smiled and said, ”First of all, please allow me, on behalf of all frontline criminal investigators, to extend my heartfelt thanks to all our friends in the media for your long-standing close attention to and strong support for our public security criminal investigation work.”

”It can be said that behind the successful solution of every single case, there is always the objective and impartial reporting of the news media.”

”Your reports have not only effectively deterred illegal and criminal acts and promoted upright social values, but have also greatly boosted the morale of our investigators, playing an irreplaceable positive role in fostering a sound atmosphere in which the entire public participates in building a safe society.”

He paused briefly, then steered the topic back to the specific issue: ”As for the question just raised by our journalist friend about the time taken to solve the case, my understanding is this: every criminal case, especially those meticulously planned with the intent to evade legal sanctions, has its own particular complexity and concealment.”

”This case took half a year before the truth finally came to light; in terms of time, that is indeed not short.”

”But we must understand that criminal investigation work has its own objective laws.”

”Among the cases I have participated in, there have been unsolved cases that took three years, five years, or even ten or twenty years before they were finally cracked.”

”The length of time it takes to solve a case is constrained by multiple factors, including the intrinsic difficulty of the case, the conditions for obtaining evidence, the stage of development of forensic technology, and the suspects’ anti-investigation capabilities; therefore, it is not the sole or absolute criterion for judging the strength of a local criminal investigation team.”

”On the contrary, for those cases that span longer periods of time, the fact that they can ultimately be solved often better demonstrates our officers’ firm belief that ’we will never withdraw until the case is broken’ and our mission-driven resolve that ’what we keep in mind will one day be answered.’”

”For any unsolved case, the investigators are ’never at ease,’ keeping it deeply engraved in their hearts, continuing to track it until everything is brought to light. As a widely quoted saying goes: justice may be delayed, but it will never be absent.”

He then shifted his remarks toward affirming his colleagues in Guangling: ”Although I come from Jiangcheng, I must here give my thumbs-up to the colleagues of the Criminal Investigation Detachment of the Guangling City Public Security Bureau, and to the team led by Mr. Chen and Deputy Director Qin.”

”It was precisely because they carried out a large amount of solid groundwork in the early stage, preserved key physical evidence, and straightened out the network of people involved that the groundwork was laid for subsequent breakthroughs.”

”More importantly, when faced with initial conclusions, they did not stop lightly, but, upholding a high sense of responsibility for life and for the law, maintained a professional spirit of striving for perfection and getting to the bottom of things, took the initiative to request support from higher authorities, and actively introduced new investigative perspectives and technical means.”

”This attitude of not shying away from problems and relentlessly pursuing the truth is the fundamental driving force that allowed this case to finally emerge from the clouds into the light.”

”What I have done is merely, under the overall coordination of the provincial-level special taskforce, to fulfill the auxiliary and collaborative responsibilities that a fellow criminal investigator ought to shoulder, building upon the solid platform already set up by my colleagues in Guangling.”

”The successful cracking of this case is a crystallization of collective wisdom and a model of vertical coordination and regional collaboration, fully demonstrating the overall combat effectiveness of the public security force in the new era in terms of unity, cooperation, and overcoming tough challenges.”

As soon as Jiang An finished speaking, the press conference hall fell momentarily silent, and then burst into warm and sustained applause.

Chen Guan and Qin Feng, whose hearts had been hanging in midair, finally felt them settle solidly back in place, and were even filled with a surge of emotion and relief.

The image crisis they had been most worried about was not only dissolved into nothingness by Jiang An’s response—which combined both height and warmth, explained general laws while fully commending specific colleagues—but was instead transformed into an extremely positive and powerful piece of publicity for Guangling Criminal Investigation.

Jiang An’s answer upheld principles, took the overall situation into account, and displayed broad vision, winning unanimous acclaim.

After the press conference concluded successfully, the members of the Guangling Criminal Investigation Detachment were filled with an indescribable sense of excitement and joy.

The meeting had not only been organized with great success, but had also achieved results far beyond expectations.

Through this meeting, the public security system in Guangling New City not only presented to the outside world a spirit characterized by tenacity and enterprising drive, but also, through practical exchanges, further enhanced its professional ability to respond to complex cases and tackle tough problems.

What especially surprised and encouraged everyone was that the highly respected figure in the rule-of-law field, Comrade Jiang An, had, in such an open and important setting, personally affirmed Guangling New City’s efforts and contributions in the handling of this case; this recognition undoubtedly injected powerful momentum into all the officers who had participated in the operation.

Back in the sub-bureau’s conference room, the atmosphere remained lively.

With a broad smile, Chen Guan walked over to the small refrigerator in the corner of his office, took out a can of carefully stored tea leaves, and said to everyone present with a laugh, ”Director Hou, Mr. Jiang, and you two young backbone members of the special taskforce, today you really did us in Guangling New City a big favor—truly a big favor!”

What he held in his hand was last year’s freshly acquired pre-Qingming West Lake Longjing tea, emerald in color and delicately fragrant; clearly a fine product he had set aside for himself.

Seeing this, Captain Qin Feng could not help but burst into laughter. ”Mr. Chen, this time you’ve really been willing to go all out! I’d say even if our Director Jiang came, he might not get to drink this tea.”
