The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Director Hou glanced at the case file and casually pushed it to Jiang An across the table.

He said in a deep voice, ”I’ve looked at this case before, and I’m quite familiar with its details, so I won’t go over it again.”

As he spoke, his brows were furrowed heavily.

After all, he had studied this case repeatedly in the past.

When he was young, he followed the Chief of the Criminal Investigation Unit, hoping to crack this case, but in the end, it was not meant to be.

Hearing this, Jiang An nodded and opened the case file.

The directory on the case file was very similar to any other case, with the report of the alert received, scene investigation, interviews and inquiries, and the current conclusion of the work.

However, absent were the victim’s identity and the closing report.

For a case, only after the investigation is completed will there be a closing report.

Turning to the first page of the case file, report of the alert received: At 9 a.m., a resident of Houshan Village reported that their dog had brought back a piece of a human arm, requesting immediate police intervention.

After receiving the alert, the local police station quickly sprang into action and immediately went to the primary scene for a preliminary investigation, discovering the body parts in a valley.

Subsequently, upon receiving the alert, the criminal investigation team immediately conducted a scene investigation.

In that ravine, the upper limbs, lower limbs, and neck area of the deceased were found, but the head, abdomen, and perineum were completely missing.

Thereafter, the police department organized a task force to immediately tackle the case and break it open.

Next is the scene investigation section. From a broad view of a valley, it can be seen that it is surrounded by mountains, with a valley in the middle, looking like a sunken funnel.

Then there are several close-up photos, showing many pine trees and vegetation nearby.

The positions where the five body parts were found are next, all within a radius of no more than five meters.

The body parts were arranged in a haphazard manner, with the head and perineum missing.

Seeing this, Jiang An’s heart trembled slightly.

He recalled encountering a similar case previously, but it was only a body without a head, with the torso and limbs still intact.

Never before had he seen anything as gruesome as this, where the perpetrator had dismembered the body so thoroughly.

Next were the routine autopsy photos, providing a detailed description of each body part.

By now, Jiang An was quite familiar with it because, as a forensic doctor, he naturally had a close affinity for such dismemberment cases, feeling that working with bodies was his specialty.

Quickly, the scope of what could be examined on the body parts was limited, and he soon finished reviewing the examination section. Then followed a heap of interview and inquiry materials.

After six rounds of special task force investigations, there was still no discovery of the victim’s identity, nor any suspicious persons found nearby, leaving the case at an impasse.

Thirty minutes later, when Jiang An finished reading the case file, he looked up at Director Hou and Mr. Qin opposite him, both of whom had very grave expressions.

After a long silence, Jiang An shook his head and said, ”This case is indeed a tough one to crack.”

”If the special task force has not been able to identify the victim after six attempts, then identifying the victim becomes a very crucial step for us.”

Hearing this, Director Hou nodded slightly and said, ”That’s indeed the case. But for now, when it comes to handling unidentified bodies, if we can’t confirm their identity, many follow-up tasks are almost impossible to proceed.”

Mr. Qin also said, ”You see, I remember when the case first occurred, I was just a young lad, following our captain everywhere to investigate and make inquiries.

Later, Mr. Ma became Mr. Ma, and I became the captain of the criminal investigation team, yet this case still remains unsolved.”

Saying this, he shook his head helplessly, saying, ”Time truly spares no one! This case has tripped up generations of us in Guangling Criminal Investigation.”

Upon hearing this, Director Hou comforted him by saying, ”Mr. Qin, sometimes that’s just how it is with criminal investigation cases. It’s not that you didn’t put in the effort, nor that the methods weren’t adequate.”

”It’s just that, while we don’t believe in the perfect crime, sometimes after a crime truly occurs, we may find ourselves at a loss, with no means at hand.”

At this moment, Mr. Ma, carrying a notebook, walked in. Seeing Director Hou and Mr. Qin, he quickly said, ”Director He, Mr. Qin, I hope you were adequately taken care of at last night’s reception?”

”Haha, it was very thorough, very thorough. You see, we drank until 10 o’clock before getting up, we’ve been well taken care of.”

Director Hou and Jiang An promptly stood up. Meanwhile, Mr. Ma’s gaze fell on the case file on the coffee table, and his expression instantly turned more serious.

”Oh, you’ve already brought over this case file?”

”Yes, we just had Wang from the criminal investigation team bring it over.”

”We invested a lot of effort into this case initially, so Director Hou, Mr. Jiang, this case might still need your guidance.”

Director Hou smiled and said, ”I wouldn’t say that, but I think we can discuss it together.”

”I was just discussing with Mr. Qin that sometimes with criminal investigation cases, our team hopes to close them immediately, but in reality, with some cases, we find ourselves somewhat powerless.”

Hearing this, Mr. Ma nodded in agreement.
