The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

After leaving the conference room, Qin Feng quickly gathered the key members of the Criminal Investigation Team and began carefully reviewing the case file of Li Yong’s death from six months ago.

Although Li Yong’s death had been classified at the time as death from illness and the handling procedures were relatively simple, the file still retained fairly complete records, especially the information on people involved in the case—names, ID numbers, contact details, all clearly recorded.

In particular, the records on the coworkers who shared the dormitory with Li Yong and the initial reporter of the incident were especially detailed.

The reason this information was preserved so carefully at the time was mainly to anticipate possible questions or emotional reactions from the deceased’s family later on.

Looking at it now, this precaution really did play a role at a critical moment.

They extracted and checked the personnel information in the case file one by one, and整理ed it into a clear list.

Thirty minutes later, one of the officers walked up to Qin Feng with the list in hand and reported, ”Captain, the cross-check is complete.”

”There were four people living in Li Yong’s dormitory at the time.”

”On the night of the incident, two of them were inside the room, and along with a coworker who came over from another dorm, the three of them were drinking together;”

”Li Yong, along with Wang Can and two others, went outside for a walk and to relieve themselves.”

”It was during this period that Li Yong suddenly suffered an episode and died.”

”Right now, we’ve整理ed the basic information of all these people.”

”Do you think we should summon them all to the bureau at once, or split up and interview them separately?”

Mr. Qin took the list, examined it carefully, and after a brief moment’s thought, instructed, ”Back when we did the initial investigation six months ago, we mainly dealt with the person who reported the case; the others were just in the room drinking and playing cards and might not be clear on the specific situation at the time.”

”So, let’s start with Wang Can and bring him in to cooperate with the investigation.”

”Got it!” Wan responded immediately. ”Wang Can lives in the suburbs and normally makes a living by doing odd jobs.”

”Although their original construction site is now half shut down, it’s very possible he’s working at some other construction site.”

”I’ll think of a way to contact him right away.”

Qin Feng nodded and added a reminder: ”Pay attention to how you communicate.”

”At the moment we only suspect that he may have some connection to the case; we don’t yet have any substantive evidence.”

”When you talk to him, you must handle it with care—don’t let him realize we’ve reopened the investigation into this case.”

Wan replied solemnly, ”Copy that, I know what to do.”

He then picked up the desk phone on the office table and dialed Wang Can’s number.

Before the call went through, Wan had already drafted in his mind the pretext and wording for his questions.

After a few rings, the call was finally answered on the other end:

”Hello, may I speak to Wang Can?”

”Yeah, this is he. Who’s this?”

”This is the Zhujiang Police Station of the Guangling City Public Security Bureau.”

”Oh, the police station?”

”Right. We’re investigating a case involving steel pipes stolen from your construction site years ago, and we’d like you to come over and help us understand the situation at the time.”

”May I ask where you are right now?”

”Stolen steel pipes? I’ve never heard about that...”

”Here’s the situation: we recently arrested a theft suspect, and he confessed that he once stole a batch of steel pipes from your site.”

”We just want to ask you to verify the conditions at the site and the personnel situation back then to facilitate the follow-up handling of the case.”

Hearing this, Wang Can on the other end let out a sigh of relief, and his tone became a lot more relaxed. ”So that’s what this is.”

”Alright, alright! I’m at the Jiangtan Construction Site in the development zone. When you get here, just come to the gate and look for me.”

”Okay then, I’ll be at the Jiangtan Construction Site in about half an hour.”

After hanging up, Wan made an ”OK” gesture across the desk, a slightly triumphant smile on his face as he said, ”Captain, all went smoothly, it’s completely taken care of.”

At this moment, Qin Feng, sitting opposite him, slightly lifted the corners of his mouth, a look of approval in his eyes. ”Wan, I didn’t expect you to be so thorough in your thinking now.”

”Using this approach to talk to him not only dispelled Wang Can’s doubts and vigilance, it also made him feel this was just an ordinary cooperation—he might even think he’s ’doing a good deed’ by helping. That was a clever move!”

Wan scratched his head in embarrassment. ”That’s all thanks to your good guidance.”

”Aren’t you always telling us to use our heads more and keep learning?”

”I don’t idle around after work either. I often ’recharge’ myself—wouldn’t dare waste time going out just to mess around.”

”I’m counting on doing a solid job under you and one day carrying the load for the team!”

”Carry the load?”

Qin Feng softly repeated the phrase, then laughed. ”You kid, you’ve got quite the ambition.”

Wan, sitting across from him, brightened at once. ”Captain, you mean... I really have a chance to take up an important post in the Criminal Investigation Team in the future?”

”How could you not?”

Qin Feng patted him on the shoulder. ”You’re a disciple I personally trained. And who am I?”

”As long as you do yourself credit, I’ll do everything I can to push you up.”

These words sent a warm rush through Wan’s chest. He sprang to his feet, straightened his back, and snapped a salute.

”Thank you, Captain! With you cultivating me like this, I will absolutely live up to your expectations!”

”Whatever the assignment in the future, as soon as you give the word, I’ll go all out— even if it means going through fire and over blades, I won’t hesitate!”

He couldn’t help but laugh himself as he finished speaking.

”Alright, alright, there’s no blazing fire or mountain of blades waiting for you,” Qin Feng waved his hand. ”Let’s go—we should get moving and head to the Jiangtan Construction Site to bring Wang Can back.”

Very soon, the four of them left the Public Security Bureau in a business van.
