The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Jiang An gently moved the panel aside, revealing the long-hidden compartment beneath.

He gazed at the internal structure and murmured, ”Indeed, this is a very concealed position, one wouldn’t notice it without deliberately dismantling it.”

With the panel removed, a different scene appeared before the crowd: a thick layer of dust had accumulated inside the compartment.

This was precisely what Jiang An was most concerned about—the less cleaned and disturbed a place is, the more likely it retains the original state from when the event occurred, every particle of dust, every subtle trace.

Suddenly, Jiang An’s gaze locked onto the inner edge of the panel, where there were some inconspicuous markings.

His eyes sharpened, and he immediately looked up at Director Hou beside him, ”Director Hou, there might really be a major discovery.”

Director Hou was stunned upon hearing this and exchanged a glance with the others, almost simultaneously blurting out, ”Could it really be possible?”

Everyone leaned in closer, focusing intently on the area Jiang An indicated.

Sure enough, in the narrow gap formed by the two metal plates, close to the edge, there were traces of dried, dark brown stains.

Immediately, Jiang An took out the prepared luminol reagent and meticulously sprayed it on the targeted area.

As soon as the reagent touched down, within hardly five minutes, a clear and strong fluorescence appeared—its glow was so striking that even without glasses, it could be seen clearly.

The onlookers held their breath and then let out low murmurs of astonishment.

They all looked at Jiang An with eyes full of admiration and amazement.

Such forensic details are rare even in one’s career, the scene before them was simply impressive.

Jiang An, with a focused demeanor, swiftly and carefully extracted and sealed the area showing blood traces.

Next, these samples would be sent to the lab for precise testing.

Once confirmed that the blood traces belong to Li Xu, it will mark a crucial step in defining the case, strengthening the interrogation of the suspect.

If he still claims he has never been to the scene, how will the blood traces be explained? In front of physical evidence, lies often crumble on their own.

At that moment, Director Hou took two steps forward, his gaze falling on Jiang An’s sampling tools, and he spoke with some doubt, ”By the way, why would there be blood traces in this position? One’s hand wouldn’t just reach into such a place for no reason... it seems somewhat unreasonable.”

He frowned slightly, clearly still questioning the circumstances under which the blood traces formed.

Jiang An heard him and looked up to respond, ”Director Hou, this position is indeed not easy to reach under normal circumstances.”

”But let’s assume that if the person was searching for something at the time and accidentally got cut by something sharp, it would make sense.”

”We just can’t ascertain what he was looking for here yet.”

As he spoke, Jiang An’s gaze slowly lifted, landing above the gap—where the keyhole was located.

In an instant, a hypothesis surfaced in his mind: could the key have accidentally dropped into the gap, causing the person to reach in and leave blood traces?

However, this idea remains in the hypothetical stage, lacking substantial evidence to support it, so Jiang An did not immediately voice it.

But Director Hou and the young officers present were feeling a surge of emotion.

They witnessed Jiang An’s seamless operation from investigation to deduction, and couldn’t help but admire.

Such investigation and associative abilities, isn’t it something an ordinary person can’t achieve? Well, not necessarily.

What ordinary people often lack is precisely the kind of relentless focus and persistence that Jiang An possesses.

Like the blood traces and minor markings here, anyone theoretically could discover them if they spent the time and effort to dismantle and check the relevant structures.

However, in reality, many might miss the crucial clues due to being inconvenienced, pressed for time, or misled by surface phenomena.

What sets Jiang An apart is his patience and tenacity in not overlooking any subtle detail.

Regardless of whether the blood is ultimately confirmed to be from Li Xu, the professional attitude and persistent spirit alone are worth deep reflection and learning.

The atmosphere in the car on the way back was somewhat quiet.

Except for Jiang An, who remained as usual, the others seemed a bit dazed, as if they hadn’t recovered from the ”magic-like” inspection process just now.

Director Hou turned slightly, secretly glancing at Jiang An beside him—if not for knowing him for years and understanding his nature, Director Hou would have fleetingly thought absurdly: such keen detective abilities were as if he had personally witnessed the scene.

However, this also prompted him to undertake some deep self-reflection: to truly solve a mysterious case, the investigator must learn to step beyond conventional perspectives and try to imagine motives and reconstruct the scene from the culprit’s standpoint.

While detective work certainly requires rigorous logic and conclusive evidence, at some critical points, it also relies on experience-based intuition and plausible imagination—it’s this blend of the tangible and the intangible that often illuminates those dark corners overlooked by conventional views.

Back at the precinct, they wasted no time, immediately sending the collected blood samples to the lab for testing.

Meanwhile, Qin Feng and others investigating the Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital completed their task and dialed Jiang An as soon as they entered the bureau: ”Hello, Mr. Jiang, where are you now?”

Jiang An quickly responded, ”At the lab, in the lab here.”

”So quickly there’s progress?” Qin Feng’s tone held a hint of surprise, ”We’ve just finished here too and were about to report.”

Jiang An continued, ”We found blood traces at the scene, already sent to the lab.”

Upon hearing ”blood traces,” Qin Feng immediately raised his head, eyes showing interest, ”Blood traces? Really found blood traces at the scene?”

”Yes, they’re being urgently tested now.”

”Where exactly were they found?” Qin Feng inquired further.

”In a very hidden gap on the side.” Jiang An described.

Upon hearing this, Mr. Qin’s expression became even more solemn, muttering lowly, ”This case has so many oddities... the investigation can’t even overlook such nooks and crannies.”

He then decisively spoke into the phone, ”You’re at the lab entrance, right? I’ll be right over!”

”Yes, we’re waiting here for the results, come and check it too.”

Soon after, Mr. Qin led several team members hurriedly to the lab.

Upon meeting, he directly asked about the blood traces.

Jiang An briefly described the process and location of the blood traces discovery to him.

After hearing it, Qin Feng shook his head, looking impressed.

He gave a thumbs up and said, ”Amazing! My bro! Among all the detective captains in the province, I only admire you!”

Mr. Qin then shared his findings from the journey: ”We obtained key records from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, indeed the suspect had been hospitalized there, post hand injury infection, for quite a while—that matched our speculation.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang An nodded slightly, appearing not overly surprised, as if all was in his predictions.

Yet, Mr. Qin shifted the topic back to the blood traces with a still somewhat incredulous tone: ”You found the blood traces... but the location is so hidden. Are you sure it’s blood?”

Calmly, Jiang An answered, ”It has been preliminarily tested with luminol reagent, and the color reaction was clear.”

”However, whether it is indeed Li Xu’s blood still awaits DNA comparison results.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Mr. Qin’s eyes lit up, even his brows seemed to rise: ”If there’s a match, this might become the decisive evidence to crack the entire case!”

At this moment, the lab door opened.

Wearing a white coat, Mr. Li peeked out and said, ”The test results are out.”

In an instant, all eyes turned to the door, and they rushed into the lab together no sooner than they heard.
