The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

The Criminal Investigation Team has a dedicated office for secretarial work, staffed with full-time internal secretarial personnel.

According to previous work procedures, the closing report of a criminal investigation case is usually drafted initially by the sponsoring investigators, and then polished and revised by professional editorial personnel.

Finally, it is submitted after approval by the head of the Criminal Investigation Team.

But this time, Captain Jiang An decided to personally pen the report.

Because this case involved a large number of people, and the investigation process was exceptionally complicated and convoluted.

Jiang An has the deepest understanding of the investigative ideas and breakthrough methods involved.

From initially taking on a single case, to successfully linking two cases, and finally connecting five related cases – the mental journey and cognitive shifts involved are only truly clear to Jiang An.

At this moment, Jiang An sits alone in the office, holding a cup of tea, watching the tea leaves slowly settle, his mind filled with countless thoughts.

The investigation process of this case was indeed fraught with hardship and challenges.

On the surface, from the first case to the linking of five cases, the time span is not long, but the reasoning and judgment process were exceptionally lengthy.

If this case had initially been treated as an isolated case, it might still be an unsolved mystery today.

A confession from the suspect, Chen Guan, flashed through Jiang An’s mind: he chose to dispose of the corpse at that remote location because he accidentally discovered the hidden site while collecting scrap and considered it an ideal spot for disposal.

Looking back now, if only a single case had been investigated at the time, it would have been like searching for a needle in a haystack.

This is akin to a person suddenly getting stabbed by a stranger on the street, and the assailant disappearing without a trace.

Without surveillance footage, eyewitnesses, or any clues, solving such a case would almost be impossible.

Even if the suspect stood right in front of the investigators, they might find it difficult to immediately confirm that he is the real culprit.

Even if the suspect voluntarily turned himself in, without ample evidence, investigators would inevitably have doubts: Is this person in front of us truly the murderer we are searching for?

Thus, the most crucial point of this case was expanding it from initially seeming like an isolated case to a series of interrelated linked cases.

The second key point was identifying a potential crime pattern from the common characteristics of these cases and subsequently pinpointing possible suspects.

One particularly important aspect is that although the scope of suspect screening is broad, only those relatively close to the victim are often familiar with the intricacies of the case and the methods of committing the crime.

Following this thought into deeper analysis, Jiang An felt a surge of excitement internally.

In his long-standing practice of investigation and case handling, Jiang An has always been good at summarizing and enjoys doing so.

He firmly believes that every review and refinement of a case represents an accumulation and enhancement of his capabilities.

Half an hour later, he opened his computer, created a new document on the screen, and solemnly entered the title.

”Key Analysis Report on Serial Murder Case”

As he typed the first line—”Case One,” he fully immersed himself in drafting this document...

From the afternoon to deep into the night, until 4:30 am the next day, Jiang An finally typed the last period.

The extensive report totaled 27,543 words.

These over twenty thousand words were not only a reflection and crystallization of his mental journey during the recent case handling period, but also encapsulated the efforts and sweat of the entire Criminal Investigation Team in this case.

The report contained both clear investigative concepts and solid working methods.

It not only reflected the hardships of the investigation process but also showcased phased achievements and breakthroughs.

The next morning, Jiang An arranged for the secretaries to check for typos and format the report, then immediately submitted it to the provincial department.

However, unexpectedly, at ten o’clock, a phone call from Mr. Ma at the provincial department was directly connected to Mr. Li’s office.

”Hello, Mr. Li.”

”Oh! Mr. Ma, hello, hello!”

”Hahaha, I heard you were newly promoted recently, and I haven’t had the chance to congratulate you personally!”

On the other end of the line, Mr. Ma chuckled with a friendly tone, ”Mr. Li, we’ve been old partners for many years, so let’s skip the formalities.”

”Alright, Mr. Ma, what work instructions do you have this time?”

”We will certainly follow through decisively and thoroughly!”

Upon hearing this, Mr. Ma laughed at this ”little hometown acquaintance” who grew up from the grassroots level together, ”Haha, I used to be able to guide you all; now I think, well, I can’t guide you anymore.”

Subsequently, Mr. Ma cleared his throat gently and said slowly, ”Just now, I carefully read through the summary analysis report you sent over; it’s very detailed, and the ideas are quite clear.”

”Who specifically authored this report?”

Mr. Li heard this, immediately leaned forward slightly, and swiftly picked up the printed case summary report from his side.

”Mr. Ma, this report was spearheaded and written by Captain Jiang An of our Criminal Investigation Team.”

Mr. Ma, upon hearing this, showed a hint of approval, nodding, ”Jiang An, yes, I have an impression of him.”

”Indeed, Jiangcheng is full of talent, especially Jiang An. In the recent handling of several cases, he demonstrated a very strong professional ability and active thinking.”

”This time’s report amazed me greatly—it’s not just a case summary, but a presentation of a complete crime-solving strategy and working method. It’s very informative.”
