The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Jiang An didn’t pause for a moment. He immediately took out his phone from his pocket, his expression grave as he quickly searched through his contacts, then pressed the dial button.

The name of the contact was clearly displayed on the screen - Mr. Li.

Mr. Li had just settled into his office chair when the internal phone rang.

He picked up the receiver, and on the other end came the slightly excited voice of Jiang An, the captain of the criminal investigation team: ”Mr. Li, I have good news to report. The case has been successfully solved!”

”So soon?”

Mr. Li couldn’t help but sit up straight, his tone revealing disbelief.

Just a few hours ago, he had spoken with Jiang An on the phone.

At that time, the progress of the case seemed stuck in a fog, with no apparent breakthrough.

Jiang An continued on the other end of the line: ”After repeatedly comparing surveillance videos, conducting thorough interviews with surrounding residents, and meticulously investigating related evidence, we can now confirm that the killer is the suspect currently detained in the interrogation room.”

”Moreover,” Jiang An’s voice became more serious, ”the female victim did not die from an accidental drowning as initially suspected, but was deliberately murdered by him.”

”Murder?” Mr. Li was taken aback.

”According to the suspect’s confession, the two originally conspired to kill the woman’s husband.”

”But during the execution, he suddenly changed his mind and decided to kill the woman as well, to eliminate a large debt he owed.”

Hearing this, Mr. Li couldn’t help but smack his lips, feeling both indignation at the heinous nature of the case and relief at the team’s fast resolution of it.

”Good, very well done!”

He repeatedly praised, ”This is really a timely rain.”

”Just now I was worrying about how to handle the media’s pressing questions.”

”Those reporters, always grasping at shadows online, recklessly speculating on the progress of the case.”

”Although we’ve been doing our best to delete posts and clarify, in the end, we couldn’t resist the rampant spread of rumors.”

”Now it’s fine. With solid evidence and a complete truth, we are fully capable of completely shattering all misinformation!”

After hanging up, Mr. Li immediately dialed the number of the head of the publicity department, decisively instructing: ”Prepare a press conference right away, scheduled for one hour later.”

”We want the entire city, even the whole country, to see the professional ability and efficient style of the Jiangcheng Criminal Investigation Team!”

The announcement quickly garnered widespread attention in media circles.

An hour later, the multimedia conference hall of the city bureau was bustling with people.

Originally, it could only accommodate a hundred people, but nearly two hundred journalists had crammed in, with many latecomers having to stand at the back or in the aisles.

It is worth mentioning that to ensure the professionalism and credibility of the conference, Mr. Li specially invited Jiang An to participate in this press conference.

At this moment, seated on the podium are Mr. Li and the determined-looking Jiang An.

The press conference officially began. Mr. Li raised his hand to adjust the microphone to the right height, glanced around at the media present, and began speaking: ”Good afternoon, media journalists and friends.”

”Thank you all for coming to today’s press conference despite the effort, and thank you to all sectors of society for the continued care and supervision of this double homicide case.”

”Over the past period, this case has touched many hearts and stirred some social discussion.”

”Today, we are solemnly informing you all: after continuous efforts and meticulous investigation by the public security organ, the case has been successfully cracked!”

As soon as he finished speaking, a low chatter of discussion erupted in the room, with many journalists exchanging looks, their faces showing a mix of surprise and relief.

Some whispered among themselves, while others quickly took notes, creating an atmosphere that was both tense and lively.

Amidst the murmurs, a male reporter in the front row was the first to raise his hand, took the microphone handed over by a staff member, and asked: ”Mr. Li! Hello, according to our information, there were rumors that the motive of the killer was related to an emotional dispute. Is this true?”

Mr. Li smiled slightly, turning his gaze to the criminal investigation captain Jiang An beside him, ”Thank you for your question.”

”The successful resolution of this case cannot do without the Criminal Investigation Team. It seems more appropriate for Captain Jiang An to answer questions about specific case details and technical aspects of the investigation.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang An turned to face Mr. Li, their eyes met, and Mr. Li nodded slightly to indicate approval.

Jiang An maintained a calm demeanor, speaking in a steady and forceful tone: ”Regarding the motive for the crime, the preliminary assessment suggests multiple factors are involved. As the case is still under further review, we can’t disclose too many specifics at this time, we hope for your understanding.”

At this time, another female reporter raised her hand and asked, ”Captain Jiang, during the investigation of this case, did the criminal investigation department use new technological methods?”

”Could you explain the role of these technologies in advancing the case?”

Jiang An paused for a moment, then responded clearly: ”Criminal investigation technology is indeed continuously evolving and iterating.”

”In addition to the always indispensable traditional methods such as on-site investigations, visits and inquiries, interrogations, and collecting evidence, this case also significantly utilized several advanced technical methods.”

”For example, we conducted systematic analysis on the suspect’s behavioral trajectory through big data modeling; we enhanced the physical evidence chain on-site using high-precision footprint location and extraction technology.”

”Simultaneously, relying on trace evidence analysis equipment, we detected extremely fine biological traces, chemical substances, etc. These technical methods supported and supplemented each other, providing crucial support for the rapid breakthrough of the case.”

Immediately afterward, another ponytailed, capable-looking female reporter stood up from her seat, holding the microphone, her voice clear and strong: ”During the investigation of this case, there were many skeptical voices from the outside, questioning the efficiency and direction of the criminal investigation team’s work at times.”

”Can you specifically explain whether the pace of progress and the final result of this case were within you and your team’s expectations?”

This question was apparently challenging, and Jiang An paused slightly, feeling the weight of it.

He instinctively turned his head slightly towards Mr. Li, seated beside him.

Mr. Li did not speak, he only nodded, indicating that Jiang An was fully authorized to respond.

With the endorsement from his superior, Jiang An took a deep breath, gathering his thoughts a bit, then turned to face the media present, answering earnestly and firmly:

”Thank you for the question.”

”The investigation of criminal cases, essentially, is often filled with the unknown and challenges.”

”Every case has its uniqueness, just like there are no two identical leaves in the world, even if the modus operandi is similar, the motives, personnel relations, and chains of evidence vary greatly.”

”Therefore, we never will, and cannot, approach any case with a ’batch processing’ mindset.”

”They require us to invest 100% focus, like approaching a fine craft, to savor and sift through meticulously.”

After a short pause, Jiang An elaborated further: ”Specifically for this case, from the moment we received the report of the two unfortunate deaths, the city bureau attached great importance, quickly deploying elite forces to establish a special task force.”

”In the early stages of the case, we carried out a large amount of fundamental yet critical work — including frame-by-frame screening of surveillance videos, repeated deliberation of autopsy results, and systematic visits and investigations of the site and surrounding environment.”

”These solid preliminary works laid a solid foundation for our subsequent breakthroughs.”

”And in the mid-to-late stages of the investigation, we actively introduced emerging technology methods, such as big data analysis and digital trace comparison, these technologies not only improved the precision of evidence collection but also significantly accelerated the pacing of the investigation.”

Saying this, Jiang An’s tone turned grave, his gaze sweeping over every camera in the audience, ”Taking this opportunity, I would also like to make a solemn promise to all citizens through the lens of the media friends present.”

”The Jiangcheng Criminal Investigation Team will always be a sharp sword to safeguard this city’s peace.”

”No matter how cunning the criminals are, regardless of when and where the crimes occur, we will resolutely crack down, with no tolerance.”

”We have the confidence and capability to keep Jiangcheng’s blue skies and white clouds intact so that everyone living on this land can feel the concrete sense of safety.”
