The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

He paused for a moment and added meaningfully, ”Such a contrast often points to certain ways of living that do not wish to be exposed to sunlight.”

Jiang An didn’t speak. His gaze passed over Wan’s shoulder and landed on the densely packed clue chart on the opposite whiteboard and the four conspicuous red letters ”Crime Motive.”

”If it is ultimately confirmed that she is indeed a worker in a special industry,”

Jiang An’s voice carried a weight, ”then our subsequent investigation direction may become even more ambiguous.”

”This group’s social network is often hidden and complex, making the investigation exponentially more difficult.”

Wan nodded in deep agreement, a helpless expression on his face, ”Indeed, it’s difficult.”

”Based on our past experience dealing with similar cases, such situations mostly need to start with emotional disputes or economic conflicts.”

”But if we are to examine her clientele...”

He sighed, ”The difficulty is too great.”

”We simply cannot determine whom she had contact with; the personnel flow in special places is extremely high, and the relationship network is as elusive as mercury.”

”More critically, we can’t even be sure if the first crime scene was indeed inside those venues.”

This statement made Jiang An furrow his brows tightly.

His brain raced, attempting to find a breakthrough among the chaotic clues.

Suddenly, his gaze again fell on the photos of the corpse’s state taken at the scene, and a question arose spontaneously.

If this really was an ordinary murder stemming from a dispute over payment for services, would the killer really go to such great lengths to transfer the body to such a concealed demolition area?

According to general rules in criminal psychology, perpetrators in such crimes of passion or impulsive cases usually opt for handling nearby or take a more direct approach to disposing of the body.

And in the surrounding kilometers of that demolition house, there were no entertainment venues; this contradiction is truly baffling.

Thinking of this, a deep sense of powerlessness surged within Jiang An.

Originally, he thought identifying the deceased would be the key turning point in solving the case, but it unexpectedly led them into an even more tangled labyrinth.

Each new clue that appeared did nothing but shroud the truth of the case in even more mystery instead of illuminating the way forward.

Two minutes later, Jiang An spoke in a deep voice, ”No matter what, uncovering the real profession of the deceased is the most crucial step in our next phase of the investigation.”

”This clue could very well directly point to the scope of the murderer.”

”Immediately select a few capable team members, form a special group, focusing on the red-light district for a thorough comb-through investigation.”

”Do not overlook any place she may have worked in.”

”Remember, be meticulous, be thorough. What I need is concrete evidence, not vague clues.”

”Yes, Mr. Jiang!”

”I understand the importance, I’ll organize and execute this immediately, and report any findings to you at once!”

Wan straightened his back, promptly responding, then turned and walked quickly out of the meeting room.

The door gently closed, and silence once again engulfed the room.

Jiang An leaned slightly back, his gaze once again heavily landing on the already yellowed, worn-edged thick file on the desktop in front of him.

The words ”5·17 Threw Female Corpse Case” still glaringly visible.

This was that sensational but eventually unresolved murder case from five years ago.

Why do the case from five years ago and this case bear such similarity?

Has that killer hidden in the dark struck again?

Or is it merely an extremely vile coincidence?

His thoughts were like a tangled ball of thread, he instinctively pressed his throbbing temple with his fingers, trying to clear up this chaos.

Suddenly, a previously overlooked blind spot in the investigation, like lightning across the dark, abruptly lit up his mind.

From the empty corpse case five years ago, to the time before this recent case happened, in the over four-year gap.

Weren’t there any similar unidentified female corpses, their identities in question?

If so, is there some unknown, lethal connection between those tragedies buried under the dust of time?

This thought sent a cold shiver down his spine.

It is crucial to thoroughly re-examine all missing person reports from the last five years, focusing particularly on females of similar age and appearance, to find any fitting, overlooked clues.

At this moment, a gentle knock sounded on the office door before it opened, interrupting Jiang An’s contemplation.

Zhang Yean leaned in, sighed, her tone somewhat heavy, ”Mr. Jiang, I have something to report?”

”Hmm!”

Jiang An motioned for her to sit, ”Go ahead, what new findings do you have?”

Zhang Yean walked to the desk, getting straight to the point, ”As per your request, I used new technology to perform high-definition enlargement and enhancement processing on all on-site survey photos from five years ago’s ’Threw Case,’ watching frame by frame repeatedly many times.”

”It turns out...in the case you all handled years ago, in the on-site evidence chain, there might be a doubt we never noticed before.”

Then, she turned the thick document in front of her around, pushing it in front of Jiang An, flipping to a marked page, pointing at one of the overall bone photos on-site.

”Mr. Jiang, look here.”

”What do you mean? Specifically, what are you referring to?” Jiang An leaned forward, his brow furrowed.

”With image processing technology, I discovered this White Bone, in the position near the sacrum at the rear of the pelvis,”

Zhang Yean’s finger accurately pointed to a corner on the photo that was extremely inconspicuous.
