The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Upon hearing this, the smile on Jiang An’s face instantly froze.

He slowly put down the teacup he had raised halfway.

”Secure the scene, we’ll be there soon.”

The entire room seemed to have the mute button pressed, with even the air ceasing to flow.

Wan, sitting beside him, keenly sensed the change in atmosphere and whispered, ”Boss, is there another crime scene?”

Jiang An nodded slightly, his gaze slowly scanning everyone present.

These comrades who fought alongside him, their faces now full of complex emotions—fatigue, helplessness, but more of a readiness to depart at any moment.

He cleared his throat, his voice exceptionally clear in the silent room: ”Everyone!” He paused, ”Brothers and sisters.”

”I originally planned to use this opportunity to have a few drinks with you all, to relieve the fatigue of continuous work.”

Jiang An’s lips curled into a bitter smile, ”Didn’t expect the task to come before the drinks had touched our lips.”

He took a deep breath and continued, ”A body was found in an abandoned well unused for twenty years.”

”The initial judgment is that the time of death is quite long.”

Just as he finished speaking, a muffled gasp echoed in the room.

Several young team members unconsciously clenched their fists, while the older members silently exchanged glances.

They all understood what a ”long time of death” implied: body decomposition, loss of evidence, increased difficulty in solving the case.

Seeing everyone’s serious expressions, Jiang An straightened his posture, his voice becoming more determined, ”Comrades, as we all know, the job is like this.”

”We never know when or how the next case will come to us.”

”But since we chose this profession, the case is always the priority.”

”The gathering tonight will continue as planned, but I will take a few young comrades to the scene.”

”The older comrades will stay here to rest and recharge. If needed, I’ll notify immediately.”

Just as he finished, several senior team members stood up immediately.

”How can that be!”

Deputy leader Mr. Chen was the first to protest, ”Captain, we’ll go together.”

”The criminal investigation team always goes in together.”

”Exactly,”

”In such scenes, our old bones have more experience.”

”Yes, let’s go together!”

More and more voices joined in.

Looking at these determined faces, Jiang An felt his eyes slightly warm.

He suddenly realized that through countless life-and-death situations, this team had already become an indestructible whole.

He raised his hand, signaling everyone to calm down, and then lifted the teacup on the table, ”In that case, let’s compromise.”

”The situation at the first scene is unknown; too many people might inadvertently destroy evidence.”

”I originally planned to honor you all with wine, but it seems impossible now, so I’ll use tea instead.”

He raised his teacup, looking around the room, ”With your strong support, our investigation team has just received a collective second-class merit.”

”This is the honor we’ve exchanged for with our sweat and blood, an important milestone in our team’s history!”

”The road ahead is still long,” Jiang An continued, ”on this path of upholding justice, we need to continue moving forward with integrity.”

”I earnestly ask everyone to continue supporting the work so we can create more brilliance together!”

”Come, raise your cups!”

”Cheers!”

The unified voices made the roof buzz.

All the teacups clinked together, producing a crisp sound, like a prelude to a war cry.

After setting down the teacup, Jiang An quickly resumed his commanding stance: ”Wan, Qin Feng, two forensic assistants, and Investigation Unit Two, follow me.”

”Everyone else, maintain open communications!”

”Yes!”

The seven who were named responded in unison, quickly grabbing their gear.

The seven divided into two cars and soon vanished into the night outside the farmhouse.

Forty minutes later, the two vehicles stopped outside a demolished building, the large ”Demolish” sign on the wall already blurred.

”Mr. Jiang, it’s been hard on you!”

A slightly plump middle-aged man in a police uniform briskly approached, beads of sweat glistening on his forehead.

”I am Liu Liang, the director of Longxi Town Police Station.”

”I’m really sorry for having to call you over from the city on a weekend, but this matter... is quite significant.”

Jiang An nodded slightly, his gaze already beyond Liu Liang’s shoulder, locked on the conspicuous police tape dozens of meters away.

”Where’s the scene?”

Jiang An asked directly, pulling white gloves from his pocket to put on.

Liu Liang gestured a ”please,” leading Jiang An towards the cordoned area, ”It’s in that old dry well.”

”This area has been deserted for nearly a decade, originally scheduled to be completely leveled for new development next month. Who would’ve thought...”

They passed through broken walls, the crunch of shattered bricks and tiles harsh underfoot.

”How was it discovered?”

”This afternoon around four, some local kids came to play hide and seek.”

Liu Liang explained, lowering his voice, ”One of the kids leaned over to retrieve something and smelled a strange odor. Upon closer inspection... they saw something at the bottom of the well.”

”The kids were frightened and ran back home to tell their parents, who then called the police.”

He paused, adding, ”Initially, we suspected the kids had overactive imaginations.”

”You know, such abandoned places often spark all kinds of fantasies in children... But when we sent someone to check...”

Mr. Liu shook his head, saying no more.

Five minutes later, they arrived by the dry well.

A stench, blended with the smell of decay and damp earth, wafted from the well, making one nauseous.

Jiang An held a high-intensity flashlight, the beam directed straight to the bottom of the well.

Under the bright light, the scene at the bottom of the well was fully revealed—a twisted female body curled up at the base, her long hair disheveled, obscuring part of her face. Her clothing had faded and darkened, blending almost seamlessly with the earth at the bottom.
