The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Wan laughed heartily and responded frankly, ”Of course!”

”If after a post-mortem we keep replaying those scenes in our minds, wouldn’t it be a waste to not enjoy the food in front of us?”

”Every time we finish such intense work, we need a good meal to rejuvenate ourselves, don’t we?”

Saying this, he turned to look at the two young colleagues, with a hint of teasing in his eyes.

The two young forensic doctors exchanged a wry smile, and one shook his head with a laugh, ”Senior brother, we can’t match your level for now!”

”Later, the grilled kidneys are all yours. We can’t really enjoy them. Especially that ’grilled chip,’ I still have images of the deceased’s heart and lungs in my head, and it’s really hard to swallow.”

The group quickly finished eating the barbecue and returned to the office.

The lights in the office were dim, and everyone found a place to take a short nap, but they all slept lightly — after all, there would be an emergency meeting in a few hours.

The original notification was for a meeting at seven in the morning, but before six-thirty, the whole conference room was already full.

Jiang An did not rest after returning.

The light in his office stayed on until dawn.

As the team leader, he was keenly aware of his responsibilities and kept sorting through materials at hand, organizing the case’s threads, and preparing for the upcoming case analysis meeting. At six-fifty, a young officer quickly walked to the door of his office and knocked gently: ”Mr. Jiang, everyone is here. Can we start the meeting now?”

”This early?”

Jiang An glanced at his watch, slightly surprised, and then showed a pleased expression.

”It seems everyone knew there was a case last night and really paid attention.”

”I didn’t expect our team’s combat ability to be this strong. This initiative and sense of responsibility move me deeply.”

He closed the file in his hand, stood up, and adjusted his collar, ”Let’s go, start the meeting.”

Soon, Jiang An arrived at the conference room.

As he pushed the door open, a strong smell of smoke hit him — the room was already filled with smoke.

After all, being a criminal investigator, even with a passion for solving cases, when facing the pressure of long-term investigation, cigarettes are still the best companions for many.

He understood this state; it’s a unique preparatory atmosphere for investigators dealing with major cases.

The meeting officially started.

Jiang An looked around and cleared his throat, saying deeply, ”Ladies and gentlemen, brothers and sisters, today I had everyone come in early, two hours ahead of our usual nine o’clock start.”

”I’ve heard some even arrived two and a half hours early.”

”This case came suddenly; I believe many didn’t eat well or rest well last night.”

”I remember this effort.”

”But it’s okay; we have plenty of time ahead. Once this case is solved, I’ll treat everyone to a good relaxation.”

Soon, his gaze turned serious, ”Next, we’ll provide a detailed introduction to the case that occurred in the dry well last night involving a female victim.”

After speaking, he turned to the side towards Wan, ”Wan, please report the findings from the site investigation and the preliminary examination to everyone.”

Wan immediately stood up, opened the notebook in his hand, ”Alright, I’ll report the preliminary investigation of the dry well female corpse case to everyone.”

”Around eleven o’clock last night, Mr. Jiang led us to the primary site.”

”The scene is located near a demolition house on the outskirts of the city, where there is a neglected dry well that has been abandoned for years, completely dried up.”

”The deceased was lying supine on the ground, wearing an outer garment, but some underwear positions were misplaced and disordered.”

He paused, then continued to report, ”Later, we conducted a dissection examination on the body overnight.”

”The examination preliminarily determined that the cause of death was mechanical asphyxia due to neck compression.”

”The deceased is a female, approximately twenty-four years old, and the time of death is estimated to be over six months ago.”

”Currently, the relevant toxicology tests and biological sample examinations are still ongoing, awaiting further feedback from the laboratory. This is the latest progress we have.”
