The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

After a brief introduction, Jiang An cleared his throat and began: ”Just now, Wan has already provided everyone with a brief introduction to our preliminary progress last night.”

”Next, I want to add two points.”

He paused briefly, looked around at the colleagues present, and continued, ”This case indeed came on quite suddenly.”

”First of all, the crime scene is quite unusual—located next to abandoned houses in the suburban area being demolished, where people rarely venture.”

”More importantly, the well where the body was discovered, based on preliminary investigations, seems to have been abandoned for years.”

”According to the police report records, it was a few children playing nearby who accidentally found something unusual and reported it to their parents before calling the police.”

”This means, if it weren’t for this accidental discovery, the site might not have been exposed for a long time.”

”At present, although we’ve completed the autopsy, this is just the beginning.”

”There is still a large amount of testing, investigation, and evidence collection that urgently needs to be carried out.”

”The reason for gathering everyone here early today is to encourage brainstorming, to have everyone speak freely, combining it with their professional fields.”

”Whether it’s the investigational approach or evidence collection direction, each could provide a vital reference for our subsequent work.”

As soon as he finished speaking, the conference room instantly stirred up a commotion.

Several experienced senior detectives began whispering and exchanging opinions.

However, five minutes passed, and despite the continuous murmuring, no one had initiated speaking up.

Seeing this, Jiang An timely interjected, ”Is there anyone who wishes to share their thoughts first?”

”Before the truth is revealed, any possibility might become the truth.”

At this moment, an elderly police officer with graying hairs, Chen Jun, sitting on the left side, slowly raised his head.

He adjusted his glasses and spoke with a steady voice, ”Mr. Jiang, since it is this way, I’ll say something first as the senior, hoping to lead with an example.”

”If I say something inappropriate, I hope you’ll guide me.”

Jiang An smiled slightly upon hearing this: ”You’re too kind, Mr. Chen.”

”You are my senior, not a matter of guidance, we are just here to discuss together.”

Chen Jun nodded, ”I just listened to Wan’s case introduction and carefully examined the photos of the scene; I think there are several aspects worth paying attention to.”

”Firstly, from the way and location the body was discovered, this is evidently a meticulously planned case.”

”Choosing the demolition area as the crime scene indicates that the suspect is quite familiar with the local environment and likely possesses a strong anti-investigation consciousness.”

He paused, looking around at the young officers, and said earnestly, ”In criminal investigation, we understand a principle: there is no such thing as causeless love or causeless hate in this world.”

”Behind every homicide case, there is bound to be some intense conflict.”

”This conflict might be explicit, such as financial disputes or emotional entanglements; or implicit, such as longstanding grievances or interest clashes.”

”But in any case, these conflicts eventually erupted in an extreme way.”

Then, Chen Jun turned his gaze to Jiang An, offering specific suggestions: ”Therefore, I believe the most pressing task now is to quickly identify the deceased.”

”I suggest starting immediately to comb through all missing persons’ reports in the city over the past six months, even up to a year, to establish a detailed comparative database.”

”Also, conduct visits and investigations to the residents within a 5-kilometer radius of the crime scene, focusing on any unusual occurrences recently.”

”Only once we resolve the core question of ’who is the deceased,’ can we further investigate their social relationships and search for potential motives.”

Then, Chen Jun continued: ”The body dumping site indeed possesses particular characteristics—the body is discarded in an abandoned well within the demolition area.”

”Different from common dumping sites like forests or lakes, these dried wells often remain more concealed.”

”From an exterior view, some dried wells are almost level with the surrounding ground and hard to detect without careful scrutiny; others are even covered by weeds or shrubs, extremely difficult to discern unless by an insider.

”This is why I believe the perpetrator’s choice of dumping location is by no means an accident but carries clear purposefulness and premeditation.”

”This individual should be very familiar with the surrounding environment, perhaps having resided nearby or frequently visited.”

”We cannot rule out that the perpetrator might be one of the demolition area’s former residents or someone who had regularly entered and exited this area.”

”Thus, in the subsequent investigation work, I suggest focusing on personnel familiar with the area’s environment once the deceased’s identity is confirmed, especially those with deep knowledge of the terrain and architectural layout before the demolition.”

”Well, these are my preliminary thoughts; perhaps because of age, my thinking isn’t as agile as young people’s, limiting my perspectives.”

”In my view, young colleagues often have broader thinking and fresher perspectives, very much worth learning from.”

As soon as he finished speaking, the venue fell into a brief silence.

Jiang An smiled, picking up the conversation with a sincere tone: ”Mr. Chen, what you’ve said is very insightful.”

”You’ve not only analyzed from the deceased’s angle but also probed deeply into the psychological and behavioral traits of the suspect. This comprehensive way of thinking is indeed worth us learning from.”

Then, he turned to the others present and encouraged in a gentle tone.

”Is there anyone else willing to share their thoughts?”

”Please do not feel constrained, speak freely.”
