The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Especially for those battling at the frontline day and night, even a momentary respite is a rare opportunity to catch their breath.

Suddenly, the phone in Jiang An’s pocket vibrated.

He took out the phone, and the screen prominently displayed the words ”Mr Li.”

Jiang An immediately gestured for silence, and the once noisy office fell completely silent, with everyone’s eyes focused on him.

”Hello, Mr Li.”

As soon as Jiang An answered the phone, he heard the slightly heavy voice of Mr Li: ”How is the case progressing?”

This question filled Jiang An with an indescribable sense of joy.

He took a deep breath, his voice unable to conceal his happiness: ”Mr Li, the case has been successfully solved!”

”I was just about to report to you, didn’t expect you to call first.”

”That’s great!”

Mr Li’s tone was significantly more relaxed, ”The psychological experts from the provincial department had planned to come to guide the investigation, but it seems unnecessary now.”

”Has suspect Chen Guan confessed to his crimes yet?”

”Yes, Mr Li.”

Then he heard the thoughtful voice of Mr Li on the other end: ”While solving the case is worth celebrating, this case is of great significance, and we must ensure every detail is flawless.”

”The chain of evidence must be complete and seamless, every detail must withstand scrutiny, and no blemishes should remain.”

”Please rest assured, these are our basic requirements,” Jiang An replied firmly, ”We have already clarified both the motive and criminal logic.”

Upon hearing this, Mr Li immediately asked: ”Speaking of motive, this is the first time we’ve encountered a serial killing in Jiangcheng.”

”What was the suspect’s reason for committing the murders continuously?”

”According to our investigation, the motive stems from his wife’s involvement in a special profession.”

Jiang An explained, ”This led to severe psychological distortion, and he ultimately chose to vent his inner frustrations by killing specific groups of people.”

Mr Li could be heard on the other end, contemplating, with a clicking sound of his tongue, and after a brief silence, he slowly said: ”This analysis indeed fits the general profile of such criminals in forensic psychology.”

”You executed this case beautifully.”

”Keep in mind, this is the first time our Jiangcheng Criminal Investigation Team independently solved a complex serial murder case involving five victims.”

”The final report must be top-notch, you must personally oversee it to demonstrate our team’s professional standards.”

”Definitely, I will personally review every detail.”

Mr Li said: ”This time we truly owe thanks to you and the brothers involved in the case.”

”Honestly, initially bearing the pressure and letting you investigate independently now seems like a completely correct decision.”

Jiang An then quietly and tentatively asked, ”Thank you for the trust, Mr Li!”

Then he asked softly, ”Since the case has been solved, what about rewards and recognition for the brothers...”

”Hahaha, I knew you’d bring this up!”

Mr Li’s hearty laugh resonated through the receiver, ”Didn’t I just mention?”

”Craft the final report beautifully, fully showcasing the determination and capability of our Jiangcheng Criminal Investigation Team in fighting crime and ensuring peace.”

”Rest assured, the commendation this time will include collective honors while thoroughly considering individual contributions, ensuring the brothers receive deserved recognition.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang An immediately straightened up, speaking solemnly: ”Then, on behalf of the brothers, I thank Mr Li for his care and support!”

”Everyone indeed exerted their utmost effort during this period.”

Mr Li chuckled lightly on the other end, ”No need for thanks; this is what you deserve.”

”But speaking of this case—”

He paused slightly, his voice deepening, ”When you suddenly called me that night to confirm the identity of five victims, I was indeed very surprised.”

”To be frank, with an intense serial case like this, so severe in nature, so widespread in impact.”

”Not only in Jiangcheng, but looking nationwide, most units would choose to report to the provincial department or the ministry at once to coordinate the investigation, while local forces assist.”

”Yet, you stood firm against the pressure, conducted a fully independent investigation, and ultimately solved the case.”

”This is an exceptionally rare achievement nationwide in the criminal investigation sphere, an impressive battle indeed!”

Jiang An hurriedly picked up the conversation, hesitantly, ”However, we did not report to the provincial department following standard procedures from initiation to conclusion, skipping some internal approval processes... From a procedural perspective, might this leave any risks?”

Upon hearing this, Mr Li chuckled, his voice revealing some ease and responsibility: ”True, there are procedural flaws; I don’t deny that.”

”But Jiang An, remember this: on the path of fighting crime and upholding justice, sometimes results are more significant than processes.”

”The duty of us, the people’s police, is ultimately to bring perpetrators to justice and offer the victims fairness.”

”Not only did you handle this case cleanly and decisively, with a solid and complete evidence chain, but its societal effects were outstanding.”

”Faced with such tangible achievements, procedural blemishes aren’t a major issue.”

”No worries, if there are repercussions, I’ll handle them.”

”Haha, thank you, Mr Li! With your words, I feel reassured.” Jiang An’s tone notably relaxed.

”Alright, not to take up your time, make sure the subsequent tasks are thoroughly handled, and the evidence documentation is solid.” Mr Li advised.

After hanging up, Jiang An turned to the detectives in the corridor, who were either standing or sitting but all inevitably watching him, raising the phone in his hand, ”Brothers, you should have all heard what Mr Li said on the call just now.”

”He represented the bureau committee in highly affirming our case investigation work!”

”Our Criminal Investigation Unit’s battle was outstanding! This marks the first independent resolution of a major serial murder case in Jiangcheng’s criminal investigation history.”

As soon as he finished speaking, the corridor resounded with enthusiastic and sustained applause.

Everyone’s face was a canvas of unstoppable excitement and pride.

As the applause faded, Jiang An raised his hand to signal them to continue, ”Of course, the achievement belongs to everyone.”

”Throughout the investigation of this case, from fieldwork and visitations, forensic examinations, to clue analysis, arrest, and interrogation, there emerged numerous individuals and teams with exceptional performances.”

”We’ll strictly adhere to organizational procedures and commendation regulations to report and reward meritorious groups and individuals, so please remain patient.”

”I can responsibly say that no effort will go unnoticed in this commendation and award process—there will be collective honors for our entire team, as well as individual contributions!”

Upon hearing this, each person’s heart surged with an uncontrollable wave of excitement.

For detectives fighting at the frontline, this occupation inherently involves licking the blood off a knife-edge, with each mission possibly confronting danger, each pursuit potentially experiencing life and death challenges.

Seeing the sparkle in everyone’s eyes, Jiang An too felt a wave of satisfaction and contentment.

As the leader of the Criminal Investigation Unit, he deeply understands the weight of responsibility and pressure, and he always adheres to one belief: you can’t expect the horse to run without feeding it.

In his view, every member who puts in their utmost effort deserves to be seen and recognized.

As long as you’re willing to work, eager to contribute, and willing to sacrifice, there will surely be a stage to showcase talents under his leadership, alongside deserving honor and rewards.

Soon, the group returned to the Criminal Investigation Team’s office.

Before entering, they already heard the bustling sounds inside, the warm atmosphere hitting them.

The news of the case breakthrough had already ”exploded” in the internal work group chat, from leaders to clerks, from veteran detectives to new police officers, almost everyone got informed of the case’s successful resolution and the suspect’s guilt admission firsthand.
