The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 599: Chapter 335: First Review of the Original Case Files

Thirty minutes later, he arrived at the traffic police team’s archives room.

The staff moved among the towering rows of archive shelves, the sound of computer keyboards clattering continuously.

”Senior sister, could you please help me check the case of Zhang Ming’s death in the traffic accident?”

Jiang An presented his police badge at the registration desk and said in a gentle tone.

The female police officer, who was sorting documents, turned her head at the sound, a hint of surprise flashing behind her thick glasses: ”Oh my! It’s Captain Jiang!”

Her voice unconsciously rose by an octave, and her face showed the excitement of seeing an idol.

This reaction caught Jiang An off guard: ”You know me, senior sister?”

”Know you? Of course, I do!”

”Nowadays, who in our system doesn’t know you.”

The female officer put down the documents and said animatedly, ”Yesterday, Mr. Ma came specially to commend your deeds, which is a rare honor in years!”

Jiang An shyly scratched the back of his head: ”Senior, you’re flattering me.”

”The successful resolution of every case is a result of team collaboration, a result of everyone’s joint efforts.”

”Oh, come on, don’t be so modest!”

The female officer waved her hand dismissively: ”Your ’one arrow three eagles’ classic case earned you a first-class merit award personally given by the provincial director.”

”Now, it’s spread throughout the bureau, saying you’re a model for young officers!”

She joked half-seriously, ”I’m even thinking, if my son becomes a policeman, he must learn from you!”

Jiang An blushed: ”Senior, you’re speaking too highly.”

He timely changed the topic, ”Can you help me find Zhang Ming’s file first.”

He handed over a note with the detailed information of the party involved.

The computer screen blinked, and the search results quickly appeared.

The female officer adjusted her glasses, frowning slightly: ”Captain Jiang, this case has been accessed many times already.”

”Could it be the deceased’s family filing another complaint?”

Jiang An nodded gravely: ”They came specifically to see me this morning, hoping to reinvestigate the case.”

”It seems when you become famous, trouble follows!”

The female officer sighed, ”After yesterday’s ’most beautiful policeman’ selection, the public seems to trust you immensely now.”

”I think in the future, for some cases, even Mr. Li or Mr. Ma’s words might not be enough; people will insist on you stepping in to trust it!”

She half-joked.

Jiang An waved his hand repeatedly: ”It’s not that exaggerated, I’m just an ordinary officer.”

Five minutes later, the female officer retrieved a manila envelope from the shelf.

”Here, this contains all the information about that motorcycle traffic accident back then, including the scene investigation records, witness statements, and the autopsy report.”

Jiang An took the hefty envelope, skimmed through it, and asked, ”Senior, can I take this dossier back for thorough study?”

A trace of hesitation flashed across the female officer’s face: ”This...”

She pondered for a moment, then suddenly smiled: ”No problem! Just sign here.”

”If we can’t trust our exemplary policeman, that wouldn’t make sense at all!”

”Thank you so much, senior.”

Jiang An seriously signed his name on the lending register, ”I promise to return it as soon as possible.”

”No rush, take your time reviewing it.”

The female officer said kindly, ”Nobody’s looking for this file recently; if someone does, I’ll contact you.”

She watched Jiang An leave, her eyes full of admiration.

Soon, Jiang An returned to the office with the hefty file, gently closing the door behind him.

He walked straight to the coffee table by the window and carefully placed the dossier on the glass top.

The sunlight streaming in from the window cast mottled shadows on the cover of the dossier, where three striking red numbers were printed on the deep blue cover: ”Case 326”.

Taking a deep breath, Jiang An’s long fingers slowly opened the dossier.

The first part was a brief account of the case, recorded in standard official document format: On *** March 26 at 6:07 AM, the 110 Command Center received an alert from a passerby, reporting the discovery of a floating male corpse in the suburban Qingshui River, with a partially submerged motorcycle visible beside the body.

The dispatcher followed protocol by notifying the traffic police team and the local police station. Upon arrival, the traffic police accident squad confirmed that the deceased showed no life signs and the motorcycle was fully submerged in the water, immediately contacting the forensic center for examination assistance.

The second part detailed the scene investigation: After receiving instructions, the traffic police accident duty team sent a five-member investigation team with full equipment, arriving at the scene at 6:35 AM. Investigators found the deceased floating face down in the water about three meters from the shore, his dark jacket swollen from water absorption.

Due to the depth of the water, investigators brought in a crane, taking nearly an hour to retrieve the motorcycle and body intact.

The forensic report showed no apparent external injuries on the deceased’s body.

Notably, the deceased’s blood alcohol content reached 107mg/100ml.

The retrieved motorcycle’s rims on both sides were covered in river mud, and on the muddy ground by the shore, a clear sliding trail about five meters long matched perfectly with the angle at which the motorcycle entered the water.

Reading these details, Jiang An’s mind naturally conjured up the scene at the time.

At the misty riverbank in the morning, a losing-control motorcycle skidded on the road, and both the rider and the vehicle plunged into the river.

All evidence pointed to a typical accident caused by drunk driving.

The whole case seemed devoid of any ripple.

Just as Jiang An was lost in thought, the office door was gently pushed open.

Zhang Chao the instructor came in, carrying a thermos mug.

”Hey! Brother Jiang, aren’t you a bit too enthusiastic with work?”

The instructor’s voice carried concern, ”You just stayed up last night solving that theft case, and today you’re not resting but studying a new case here?”

Hearing the familiar voice, Jiang An looked up and quickly stood up to greet him.

”Instructor, you’re here, please have a seat.”

He casually moved the dossier aside to make a spot for the instructor.

After the instructor sat down, Jiang An pointed to the dossier and explained: ”This is a case that an elderly couple brought to the bureau this morning, saying there are doubts about the cause of their son’s death and they want me to take a look.”

”Oh? Another one of those old cases?”

The instructor took a sip of tea, furrowing his brows, ”Could it be those long-term appealers?”

”Probably.”

Jiang An nodded, tapping the dossier with his fingers unconsciously.

”I specifically went to the traffic police team to retrieve the original materials just now.”

”According to colleagues at the archives, this case’s materials have been accessed multiple times.”

”What case is so special? Let me see.”

Zhang Chao the instructor leaned in a bit, and when his eyes fell on the ”Case 326” mark on the cover, he suddenly showed a look of sudden realization, followed by a wry smile and shaking his head.

”Captain Jiang, I have an impression of this case.”

”Initially, it was handled by the suburban police station, later transferred to the accident team.”

”That elderly couple almost became ’frequent visitors’ to our bureau, never missing from our annual list of key petitioners.”

”Could there really be a problem with the case?” Jiang An pressed on.

The instructor sighed deeply, putting down the thermos, crossing his hands on his lap.

”From the dossier, there’s indeed no problem.”

”Look at the scene investigation and the autopsy report, all evidence fits perfectly: clear tire skid marks, the deceased’s excessive blood alcohol level.”

”The incident location is that sharp turn, and the guardrail has fresh scrape marks.”

”Most crucially, the cause of death given by the coroner is confirmed drowning, which entirely matches the accident characteristics.”

He paused, then added: ”That night’s party was also thoroughly investigated, several friends confirmed the deceased drank almost a whole bottle of white liquor before insisting on riding home.”

Hearing this, Jiang An’s pupils faintly contracted: ”Looking at it this way, it indeed seems like a regular traffic accident...”

”If you ask me, don’t waste your time on this.”

The instructor stood up, ”Just give the elderly a clear answer.”

”The grief of losing an only son is understandable, but in this situation, our police department can do nothing.”

”The facts are there, we can’t just come up with a new conclusion out of thin air, right?

As he spoke, Zhang Chao the instructor checked his watch: ”I better head to a meeting.”

As the instructor took his leave, Jiang An once again focused on the crime scene photos.

Just when he was about to close the dossier, a seemingly ordinary detail in the corner of a photo drew his attention...
