The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 571: Chapter 322: SWAT Support Arrives, Only to Find Nothing! (Part 2)

Just as the words left his mouth, Mr. Ma walked over.

Li Jian quickly introduced, ”This is our director, Mr. Ma.”

The middle-aged man standing nearby immediately stepped forward and respectfully said, ”Director, hello, I am Zhao Jian’s cousin.”

Mr. Ma nodded gently, a scrutinizing look in his eyes.

”Have you all agreed on the matter of exhumation and autopsy?”

The middle-aged man nodded without hesitation, ”Completely agreed.”

”They have already explained it to us in detail.”

He sighed and said, ”Although we rural people emphasize feng shui, good feng shui shouldn’t have brought such a disaster to my cousin’s family.”

”So many years have passed, and the souls of their family have yet to rest in peace.”

”As long as there is a glimmer of hope to find the murderer, we will fully cooperate.”

”I believe their spirits in heaven will also support this decision.”

These words sent a shock through Mr. Ma’s heart.

At the time of the incident, he personally led the team to investigate the scene, and the gruesome scene remains vivid in his mind to this day.

He took a deep breath and solemnly said, ”Thank you for your understanding and support.”

”Please believe that evil will not triumph over good, and justice may be delayed, but it will never be absent.”

After he finished speaking, Mr. Ma looked at the simple farming tools in the hands of the villagers and turned to the special police officers, saying, ”The next task will be handed over to our special police friends, it’s a good opportunity to test the results of their usual training.”

As soon as the words left his mouth, the special police officers immediately sprang into action, putting down their equipment and picking up hoes, shovels, and other tools, working fervently.

The seemingly indestructible cement fence was completely dismantled in less than twenty minutes.

Immediately afterward, they began carefully excavating the soil layers.

The scene was silent, everyone held their breath, staring intently at the gradually uncovered grave.

Every shovel of soil lifted tugged at the heartstrings of everyone present.

Despite Mr. Ma being skeptical about this method—for it was indeed too bold.

However, it was Jiang An who made this speculation.

The same words spoken by him carried a different weight.

Suddenly, a special police officer halted, turned, and reported.

”Mr. Ma, there’s something down here, it feels very hard, like I’ve heard the sound of metal scraping.”

This sentence was like a pebble dropped into a calm lake, immediately causing ripples.

Everyone unconsciously gathered around.

”Be careful, make sure to be careful.”

Mr. Ma’s voice was low and tense, ”Rural graves are usually wooden coffins, finding metal is very unusual.”

Jiang An immediately added, ”Move a bit slower, make sure not to damage what’s inside.”

Everyone carefully peeled away the surrounding earth like peeling an onion.

Five minutes later, a rusty metal box appeared in front of everyone.

”This...”

Mr. Ma, Li Jian, and Zhang Chao simultaneously exclaimed, their faces full of disbelief, all eyes on Jiang An.

Immediately, Jiang An put on gloves and said gravely, ”Mr. Ma, Mr. Li, Mr. Zhang, this is the clue I speculated.”

”The missing one million cash from the armored vehicle robbery case.”

”One million?!”

”How is that possible?”

While the three were still in shock, Jiang An had already lifted the metal box.

The side of the box faintly showed the words ”Commercial Bank Safe.”

At this moment, time seemed to freeze.

”A murder case... actually connected to the armored vehicle robbery?”

Li Jian murmured, his voice trembling.

As you know, the armored vehicle robbery back then shocked the nation, and a special task force of criminal investigation experts was established by the provincial department.

Even seasoned detectives like Mr. Ma didn’t get to participate in the investigation.

Now, this key piece of evidence that haunted the police for years had suddenly appeared before everyone in such a dramatic manner.

Mr. Ma, Li Jian, and Zhang Chao’s eyes widened, their gaze shifting back and forth between Jiang An and the safe.

At this moment, it felt like being in a dream.

Jiang An stared at the rust-covered safe and said in a deep voice, ”I believe that Zhao Jian is very likely one of the suspects in the bank armored vehicle robbery case back then.”

”An ordinary farmer turned out to be a participant in such a shocking case.”

If the appearance of this iron box was shocking enough, Jiang An’s speculation was even more powerful.

”Are these two cases... really connected?”

Mr. Ma murmured, frowning.

Although the facts were right in front of him, this theory still made him feel unbelievable.

It took him a good while to gather himself and, in a deep voice, issued orders, ”Next, please immediately undertake the following tasks.”

”First, contact a professional technical company to open the safe immediately and verify if the serial numbers of the cash inside match the stolen bills.”

”Second, contact the leaders of the Provincial Criminal Investigation Bureau immediately, especially the head of the task force responsible for the case back then, and try to work together.”

”We strive to solve the murder case and, at the same time, resolve the suspended bank robbery case.”

”Yes!”

Mr. Li, Zhang Chao, Jiang An, and others answered in unison, their voices echoing in the mountains.

The most excited at the scene were Zhang Yean and Wan, Zhang Yean excitedly patted Jiang An’s shoulder.

”Mr. Jiang, you’ve really opened my eyes!”

”Last night we were still discussing this case, and today you’ve turned our conjecture into reality!”

Wan was grinning widely, ”If this case is solved, forget about a third-class merit, even second-class would be insufficient; we might even get a first-class merit!”

”You know, this is a nationwide sensational case!”

Wan had already started imagining boasting about it in his group of classmates.

At this moment, Jiang An’s gaze never left the safe, his heart surging with complex emotions.

More than anyone, he understood what this discovery meant—it could very well be a major breakthrough, killing two birds with one stone.

He now suspected the reason for Zhao Jian’s murder—very likely black-on-black crime.

But the key question is: why would an ordinary-looking farmer get involved?

If the armored vehicle robbery back then was a group crime, where are the other accomplices now?

Perhaps finding these people could reveal the truth behind the murder case.

After a brief rest, Mr. Ma walked over to Jiang An and patted him heavily on the shoulder.

”You are truly the lucky star of our criminal investigation team.”

”This morning we were still skeptical of your suggestion, but in less than half a day, you’ve given us a lesson with facts.”

Zhang Chao was so emotional that his eyes reddened, his voice choked, ”This case... I invested so much effort over the years...”

”Countless sleepless nights, countless times returning without results...”

”I used to suffer insomnia, wander, and blame myself for it...”

”I never imagined seeing a breakthrough today in this way...”

After a long time, Zhang Chao looked at Jiang An sincerely and said, ”Comrade Jiang An, you’ve shown me what real criminal investigation is about.”

Jiang An humbly shook his head, ”Instructor, you flatter me.”

”Today’s discovery is just a small step, proving the murderer’s motive.”

”But to completely solve that case, there’s still a long way to go.”

Li Jian and Zhang Chao nodded in agreement without saying a word.

Suddenly, Mr. Ma staggered, his face suddenly turning pale.

He stumbled back a few steps, almost falling to the ground, luckily Li Jian quickly caught him.

”Mr. Ma, would you like to rest in the car first?”

Mr. Ma waved his hand, his voice weak, ”No need... I’ll just sit nearby for a while, maybe my blood sugar is a bit low...”

Sitting on a stone, Mr. Ma gazed at the safe before him, feelings surging within him.

The scenes of running around for this case back then suddenly flooded his mind.

The motive for the massacre case was always the focus back then.

But no breakthrough was ever found.

Unexpectedly, after more than a decade, today they finally found a clue.

Mr. Ma shook his head, looked around, and fell into contemplation...
