The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 500: Chapter 286: White Bone’s Identity

The next day, as soon as work started, everyone quickly sprung into action.

According to the work arrangement Li Jian outlined during dinner at the cafeteria the previous night, Mr. Fu led a team back to the electronics factory to gather detailed information about Wang Shuang’s ex-wife’s disappearance.

Jiang An, along with Zhang Yean and Wan, drove to the mountainous area of Jiangcheng to collect soil samples for compositional comparison.

He himself planned to lead a team to Jiangcheng Mental Hospital to retrieve Li Lei’s medical records from years ago.

At 8:40 in the morning, a white police car departed from the Jiangcheng City Bureau.

Wan was at the wheel, Jiang An sat in the passenger seat, and Zhang Yean was in the back seat.

As he drove, Wan said, ”This case investigation is really interesting, making us feel like geological exploration experts.”

”Hahaha, geological exploration experts.”

”You really do make a good point.”

Zhang Yean laughed from the back seat.

”All the time I worked in the criminal investigation team, there has never been a case I’ve handled that required extracting soil information for comparison.”

”Isn’t it all because the murderer is too cunning?”

Zhang Yean said in a low voice, ”Even his wife didn’t realize that the man she dearly loved was deceiving her in this matter.”

”Exactly.”

”This doesn’t seem so complicated on the surface, so why did he lie?”

...

As they spoke, Wan glanced at Jiang An sitting in the passenger seat.

At that moment, Jiang An was deep in thought.

His brow furrowed as he stared at the trees passing by outside the window.

”What are you thinking about?”

”So deep in thought.”

Zhang Yean’s gentle tap on his shoulder brought Jiang An back to reality.

He then turned his head and said deeply, ”I keep pondering why Li Lei goes into the mountains wearing climbing shoes every week; for what?”

”For what?”

”Isn’t it to release his inner emotions?”

Wan’s lips twitched as he spoke.

”It might be like a serial killer in a movie.”

”There could be many of his crime tools and trophies hidden in some unknown forest.”

”Thinking about it this way is terrifying.”

Zhang Yean’s lips twitched, looking horrified.

”His behavior reminds me of ’The Silence of the Lambs’.”

”Those psychopathic killers seem to crave killing, always researching various murder methods, and even repeatedly admire their trophies after killing.”

While the two of them were discussing, Jiang An’s mind was also racing.

His thought process spread like weeds.

In Jiang An’s view, solving any case is a process of hypothesizing, verifying, and finally confirming the hypothesis.

This case is no exception.

At least so far, the soil information on Li Lei’s sneakers must not be from the city.

This means that during his outings, he must have gone to some hidden, soil-covered place.

He goes there every week...

So frequently!

In Jiang An’s opinion, it’s unlikely he kills every week.

There may be something he considers very important left in such a hidden place.

For this case’s suspect, his psychological activities must differ significantly from a normal person, possibly to a perverse degree.

Thinking of this, Jiang An let out a deep sigh.

The place this man often visits must have a special purpose.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t go there weekly; it’s very likely his trophies are there.

...

As Jiang An was deep in thought, Wan turned and said, ”Do you think we should interrogate Li Lei again?”

”Maybe we can get him to slip up.”

Jiang An glanced at Wan and said seriously, ”Wan, we can’t be too optimistic about this.”

”You must have watched last night’s entire interrogation.”

”Li Lei was extremely calm, answering us fluently during the interrogation.”

”This unusual composure is inseparable from his personal restraint.”

”If we rashly probe at this point, it might alert him.”

Zhang Yean nodded after hearing this, ”Exactly!”

”I think Junior Jiang An makes a lot of sense.”

”At this time, we only suspect he might be the murderer.”

”But, many pieces of evidence have not yet formed a chain.”

”If we act rashly, it could have very negative consequences.”

Wan thought for a moment, ”You’re right, I was careless.”

”If we explore this further, we should only act decisively after finding relevant evidence.”

Meanwhile, Li Jian was leading a team preparing to head to Jiangcheng Mental Hospital to retrieve records.

But before departure, he turned to the office’s clerical staff and said, ”Liu, contact the psychological testing personnel from the neighboring city bureau to provide resources for this case.”

”Psychological testing?”

The young policewoman wearing glasses pushed up her frames, looking incredulous.

Mr. Li explained, ”In this case, we currently can’t confirm he is the murderer.”

”Isn’t Jiang An going for trace evidence testing and identification?”

Li Jian replied, ”That’s indeed a very good method.”

”But, we can’t be sure there will definitely be results.”

”You know, the murderer in this case is very cunning; I feel we must make multiple preparations.”

”Besides our usual proceedings, we need to think of more ways.”
