The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 486: Chapter 279: Showdown Within the Interrogation

In the audience, people were initially slouched, somewhat inattentive, with some unconsciously twirling their pens and others lightly scratching the edge of their notebooks with their nails.

But now it was as if an invisible hand had gripped the backs of their necks, forcing them to sit up straight.

The two members of the on-site visiting team who had just returned from the outer county were particularly noticeable.

They were slumped in their chairs, one of them wiping sweat from his forehead with a mud-stained sleeve, his clothes speckled with dirt.

The other persistently tapped the floor with the tip of his shoe, making a rhythmic tapping sound.

Their arms crossed over their chests, fingers nervously drumming on their arms, shoulders slightly hunched forward, eyes full of suspicion towards this analyst sitting in the office.

However, Jiang An’s next words cut into the heart of the case like a sharp scalpel.

”Judging from the traces at the crime scene, the killer has a unique logic in choosing targets and methods.”

Jiang An spoke as he turned slightly, unconsciously rubbing the remote of the projector with his left hand.

”The victims are all single women who work in the service industry. This is no coincidence.

Suddenly, he clenched his fist, his right index finger twitching involuntarily, his voice rising in intensity.

”The killer’s target is clear, searching for specific ’prey’, and these women must share some common trait that triggers a nerve deep within the killer.”

With that, he suddenly turned to face everyone, the sound of his leather shoes scraping sharply on the floor, endless secrets seemingly hidden within his deep eyes.

”Looking at the scene arrangement, it appears to be random acts of violence.”

”But upon careful observation, you’ll find every detail is meticulously crafted.”

He raised his arm, the cufflinks reflecting a cold light under the lamp, his fingers sketching in the air, ”The killer savors the act, showcasing his ’work’ to us. Each crime is a challenge to the world.”

Mr. Ma was initially half-hearted about letting Jiang An speak.

At this moment, however, he leaned forward unconsciously, his right index finger tracing invisible patterns on the table, hands crossed beneath his chin, occasionally pressing his temple, his face full of focus and surprise.

In his many years of criminal investigation, he had never seen someone analyze a case from such a unique perspective.

Suddenly, he squinted, his lower eyelids twitching slightly, eyes fixed on Jiang An, secretly pondering: What kind of mind does this young man possess?

Mr. Zhang furrowed his brow, the fountain pen spinning rapidly between his fingers, one hand supporting his forehead, the other tightly gripping the pen, occasionally jotting down quick notes, his left pinky stained with ink unknowingly, as the nib scratched against the paper with a rustling sound.

Upon closer examination, it was not hard to notice the intense interest in Jiang An’s viewpoint in his eyes.

Mr. Li sitting next to him slightly squinted, his back teeth clenched so that his cheeks protruded, leaning back in his chair, arms resting on the armrests, fingers softly tapping the chair’s edge, scrutinizing Jiang An, as though trying to see through him.

”Based on these analyses, I have identified three suspects.”

Jiang An’s voice suddenly rose, his Adam’s apple bobbing with the pitch, breaking the silence of the conference room.

He briskly moved to the console, accidentally bumping the projector stand but quickly steadied himself, pressing the mouse heavily as three photos appeared on the projection screen.

”Li Lei, 47 years old, an employee of a power company.”

”Qin Xiao, 39 years old, a self-employed merchant.”

”Wu Biao, 43 years old, a truck driver.”

A buzz of whispers erupted below, with the visiting team members exchanging looks.

Some covered their mouths in surprise, while others instinctively gripped the arm of the colleague next to them.

They had worked hard all day to no avail, while Jiang An had identified suspects solely through analysis.

Mr. Ma stood up, the chair legs scraping the floor with a piercing noise, pressing his hands heavily on the conference table, his knuckles white from the strain, eyes intensely fixed on Jiang An.

”Comrade Jiang An, analyzing suspects from an individual psychological angle is a bold attempt in the history of our Jiangcheng Police Team.”

”Especially by delving into psychological traces, it indeed offers us a brand new perspective.”

He paused, his tongue passing over his dry lips, the corners of his mouth slightly curling up, ”But, are you sure these three are the suspects we’re looking for?”

Jiang An calmly inserted his hands into his trouser pockets and then pulled them out, speaking in a steady voice, ”Mr. Ma, they are just suspects for now.”

”Of course, the final confirmation would require interrogations and further investigation.

Mr. Zhang, now intrigued, clicked the cap on his pen with a snap, leaning forward with elbows on the table, one hand supporting his chin.

”Comrade Jiang An, you previously mentioned suspect psychology, which is very interesting.”

”Currently, Dragon Country’s leading criminal psychology research center is initiating research on similar topics.”

”And the concept of ’psychological traces’ you mentioned coincides with our research direction.” ”Could you elaborate on how you deduce psychological traces of suspects?”

Jiang An nodded slightly, the vertebrae at the back of his neck protruding, walking swiftly to the whiteboard, and grabbing a red marker.

His wrist turned flexibly, the marker tip leaving tiny flecks of pigment on the whiteboard as he quickly circled several details on a photo of the crime scene.

”Everyone, take a look. Although the killer meticulously crafted the scene, they still left some flaws.
