The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 487: Chapter 279: Showdown in the Interrogation Room (Part 2)

”He pointed at the bloodstain in the photo with the tail of the marker, ”For instance, the direction and force of this blood spatter indicate that the killer was emotionally charged and acted hastily during the crime.”

Then, he moved the marker tip to the place where the items were arranged, pressing it down heavily where red paint had seeped into the nails. ”And the placement of these items appears reasonable but is actually somewhat disorganized, indicating the killer was eager to leave the scene and didn’t have enough time to perfect his ’work.’”

”All these details suggest the killer was driven by strong urges, eager to commit the crime and to vent his inner emotions.”

Upon hearing this, Mr. Li suddenly slapped his knee and couldn’t help but slap his thigh, exclaiming, ”Such meticulous observation and insightful analysis, Comrade Jiang An truly has exceptional talent.”

”A talent like this can definitely be sent to the highest institute of criminal psychology in Dragon Country for advanced studies, possibly becoming a leading figure in the field of criminal psychology.”

Jiang An hurriedly waved his hand, his ear tips flushed with an awkward red hue, his body slightly leaning back, displaying a modest smile on his face.

”You three leaders flatter me.”

”I merely combined what I’ve learned with the actual case, and there are still many shortcomings.”

”Moreover, even if I had a chance to pursue further studies, English would be a major hurdle for me, making it extra difficult.”

Mr. Zhang laughed heartily, his dentures reflecting ceramic-white light under the lamp.

”Brother Jiang An is too modest.”

”With your talent and capability, if you put in the effort, how could mere English hinder you?”

”However, to be honest, we are really reluctant to let you leave the Jiangcheng Police Team.”

”Mr. Ma, don’t go poaching our people when the time comes.”

Mr. Ma laughed heartily, his wig shifting slightly with his laughter, as he thumped the table forcefully.

”Mr. Zhang, keep your hands off Jiang An.”

”He’s our anchor at the Jiangcheng Police Team. Without him, how will we solve future cases?”

The crowd burst into laughter, some slapped their thighs, some wiped tears from the corners of their eyes, and the previously oppressive meeting atmosphere became relaxed.

Very soon, Mr. Ma regained a serious demeanor. He suddenly stood, his pants creating a breeze as he straightened his back, his gaze sharp like an eagle’s.

”Alright, back to the main topic.

”Comrade Jiang An’s analysis is very reasonable. Captain Li Jian and Captain Fu have previously led teams conducting extensive visits and investigations.”

”Although they haven’t directly found the killer, they have ruled out many distracting factors, confirming the killer’s strong counter-detective abilities.”

”Next, we will quickly initiate capture action targeting these three individuals identified by Jiang An’s analysis.”

After the meeting ended, the night was already deep.

Based on the collected clues, the detective team swiftly located the residence of the three suspects on the same night.

The entire capture process was unexpectedly smooth; the operatives infiltrated the house like shadows, with all three suspects apprehended by the police while still asleep, without any resistance.

They merely blinked dazedly with heavy eyelids when handcuffs were placed on them.

Four in the morning, in the conference room of the detective building. In interrogation rooms 1, 2, and 3 sat Li Lei, Qin Xiao, and Wu Biao respectively.

The lights in the interrogation room were ghastly white and glaring, the walls cold and gray, with an oppressive atmosphere permeating the air.

Li Lei kept twisting his body, the shackles grinding against the metal chair legs with an ear-piercing noise, trying to escape the handcuffs’ restraints.

Qin Xiao was curled up on the chair, burying his face deep between his knees, hugging himself tightly. Wu Biao, however, stared upwards, his Adam’s apple moving like a piston, glancing around disdainfully.

In the detective team’s office, the three directors, Mr. Ma, Captain Li, Captain Fu, Jiang An, and others gathered together, discussing the upcoming interrogation strategy.

Mr. Ma furrowed his brows, the veins at his temples appearing intermittently as he continuously tapped his fingers on the tabletop, a hint of worry in his eyes.

”The whole capturing process was too smooth, so smooth that it’s abnormal.”

”I always feel like things won’t be this simple. Could there be some kind of trap among all this?”

Mr. Zhang pondered for a moment, then pushed his glasses up over his head and back down onto his nose, tapping his notebook lightly with a pencil.

”Mr. Ma, perhaps because too much time has passed since the incident, the suspects have lowered their guard.”

”But regardless, we must be meticulous, and during interrogation, we must seize key questions to prevent them from having any strokes of luck.”

Mr. Li also nodded, the excess flesh at his neck folded into three layers, leaning forward with both hands resting on his knees.

”Indeed, these three look ordinary, but being able to remain at large in a serial murder case for so long definitely means they’re not simple.”

”We must identify flaws from their words and expressions.”

Jiang An had been quietly listening to everyone’s discussion.

His eyelashes cast a fan-shaped shadow on his cheek.

At this moment, he coughed lightly, his knuckles tapping a crisp sound on the table, sitting up straight, drawing everyone’s attention.

”Ladies and gentlemen, I believe the interrogation can start from their emotional setbacks.”

”According to my analysis, the motive of the killer is likely related to emotional trauma.

”We can inquire about their past emotional experiences, observe their reactions, and find a breakthrough.”

Mr. Ma glanced approvingly at Jiang An, leaving a damp handprint on Jiang An’s shoulder, and patted him on the shoulder.

”Jiang An’s suggestion is very good.”

”Li Jian, you and Mr. Fu will be in charge of the interrogation. Be sure to start from the emotional aspect as Jiang An said, and see if you can get them to talk.”

Li Jian and Mr. Fu accepted the order and strode into interrogation room number one.

Li Lei sat in the interrogation chair, his hands cuffed to the armrests.

His body kept twisting, sweat dripped from his temples into his collar, his face full of impatience and anger.

Seeing the two police officers come in, he immediately widened his eyes, bloodshot veins visible, struggling forward fiercely, metal handcuffs clashing against the chair’s armrest with a piercing sound.

”If you don’t give me a reasonable explanation today, I’ll report you and make sure you suffer the consequences!”

”Why did you grab me when I was sleeping well?”

Mr. Fu sat down opposite Li Lei with an expressionless face.

As he slammed the notebook on the table, a cloud of fine dust rose. With a bang, he dropped the folder on the table, his eyes staring sharply at him.

”Name? Age? Occupation?”

Li Lei snorted disdainfully, nostrils flaring, head tilted to one side: ”You’ve caught me, and you don’t know these things?”

”Stop pretending!”

Li Jian’s face turned cold, his knuckles tapping a Morse code-like rhythm on the desktop, repeating again.

”Name? Age? Occupation?”

”Li Lei, 47 years old, working at the power company.”

”Tell me, why exactly am I being arrested?”

”Where were you ten years ago?”

”Doing what?”

Mr. Fu continued asking, his voice cold and stern.

Li Lei frowned, subconsciously licking his cracked lips, instinctively licked his lips again.

”Ten years ago?” ”I was fishing by the river then.”

”Our family raised fish.”

”Why, is fishing illegal?”

”You’ve been divorced three times by the age of 37, why are you divorcing so frequently?”

Mr. Fu suddenly threw out the question, leaning forward so much he almost crossed the table, his gaze fixed tightly on Li Lei’s face.

Li Lei’s lips trembled slightly, fingers digging five white marks on his knees, speaking in a deep voice: ”That’s my private matter, none of your business!”

”You have no right to ask!”

”Moreover, romance isn’t illegal, right?”

Li Jian slammed the table suddenly, his hand turning red instantly, the cup on the table jumping and spilling water.

”In the interrogation room, there’s no private matter! Answer the questions truthfully!”

Li Lei was intimidated by Li Jian’s aura, his knees involuntarily closed, legs slightly trembling, gritting his teeth and said: ”For what else?”

”We just weren’t compatible.”

”Is it really just incompatibility?”

Li Jian persisted, stepping forward, his tie dangling and brushing against Li Lei’s hand back, his body leaning, almost touching Li Lei’s face.

Fear flashed in Li Lei’s eyes, sweat from the back of his neck rolled into his collar, he swallowed repeatedly but soon pretended to be calm: ”It’s just incompatibility!”

....

Inside the interrogation room, the atmosphere was tense and oppressive, a fierce psychological battle was unfolding.

Jiang An stood before the interrogation room’s monitoring screen, his eyes bloodshot from staring for too long, hands braced on the console, forearm muscles trembling slightly from overexertion, his gaze intensely fixed on the screen, not missing any subtle changes in expression or body movement.

He knew that this interrogation would decide the direction of the case. And he must rely on his wisdom and experience to help the police find the truth...
